View Full Version : Are there custom side vents?

bear310401-30-2012, 01:54 AMI know there are crazy expensive air scoops of all kinds. What I'm wondering is if there is a cheap replacement for the stock pass side air vent that does a better job. Again I do not want any crazy mods and do not want to speed hundreds of dollars. Something like this at a price like this The Fiero Store (http://fierostore.com/Product/Detail.aspx?s=52514)

? Tooljst801-30-2012, 02:36 AMStock form you have two choices, early model 85/86 and late model 87+. They both fit in the same hole, I recall them having slightly different brackets inside or something, I can't remember.

The early model side intake is flush to the body; where as the late sticks out a bit. The latter was probably an improvement in function or they would have left it alone. I think it looks better. If you have an early model you could consider this as an upgrade.

Nothing is available in aftermarket to my knowledge. Making your own / making something else work for this particular item seems the trend. Pics of DIY vents are around, I'm sure someone will post up a few pics of their custom works. Zarek01-30-2012, 02:57 AMthe 87+ scoops are funtional as intakes. the 85/86 have a cold air intake that went over the batt and along the firewall. Later models used the scoop to draw air into the engine Zarek01-30-2012, 02:58 AMthe 87+ scoops are funtional as intakes. the 85/86 have a cold air intake that went over the batt and along the firewall. BR0NXB0MBERS8701-30-2012, 03:16 AMCarbon Fiber Hoods - 20% Off Carbon Creations and SEIBON Carbon Fiber Hoods (http://www.carbonfiberhoods.com) they have a couple different scoops for the MK1. carbon fiber and a carbon kevlar version. Pricey but just depends on your budget/interest. I myself will be picking up a carbon fiber one. Depends on the color of your car I guess, the carbon fiber on red looks sexy :) bear310401-30-2012, 03:27 AMFrom the pics it looks identical to the 87+ which is what I have. Like the OP says I'm looking for a side scoop like the Fiero one that sticks out a bit more to pick up more air, and for a good price.

Grrr why do Fieros get such a huge store with so many parts. Tempast02-01-2012, 09:54 PMBecause they have a huge fanbase lol. A lot of people hate them, but personally I'd love to have an '88 GT. I'd do a custom interior though because stock looks like crap. flatline1602-21-2012, 08:42 PMI have a modded 87 made in carbonfiber. I added more of an arc to scoop in air and I have a divider to direct air into the bay.

beautiful! id love the larger arc! Bigbacon02-22-2012, 09:32 PMlooks like an 87+ they just took the slats out of flatline1602-23-2012, 01:42 AM^ Not even close. The whole vent extends out like 2in past a standard 87 vent. The whole profile is arced, 87 doesnt. BlackWidowMR202-24-2012, 11:07 PMWhere's mr2tim when you need him? That Guy is something else when it comes to scoops n such. RuggishBone02-25-2012, 01:26 AMhttp://www.carpron.com/multisite/d/95332-2/DSC00033.JPG
