Anyone intrested in swapping in the hybrid camry's engine  you can save the enviorment:lol:

Oh man i am slap happy. Weasy2k04-20-2006, 08:19 PMoteck and I have talked something about it actually :) Oteck04-20-2006, 08:59 PMyou need a basic understanding how the system works. In toyotas case it's just the engine never does any of the pulling. It only powers up the battery while it lets the generator (3 of them) do the hauling. This would be an interesting swap but it will make the car much much heavier due to the fact you need to add the hybrid battery and find a place to mount it. I had an idea of making a custom tank or cut it in half and put the CELL at that location. The tranny is an interesting factor aswell since it's a CVT (belt/pulley) driven tranny. If i were to do it on a MK2 id steal the highlanders awd system :D Weasy2k04-20-2006, 09:13 PMremove tank and make osme sort of rack wjhere batterys can go :) It would be way to heavy tho Gocasen04-20-2006, 09:37 PMWow lol i was kidding but ok Mister2.204-20-2006, 09:43 PMWow lol i was kidding but ok

Nothing wrong with an MK2 that's also good on gas and can help keep the air clean. :) Node04-21-2006, 12:30 PMGuys, you need to look at the stats on the RX 400h. That drivetrain looks VERY compatible with the MR2. The only real difference would be that the rear hybrid drive would be up front in the MR2. Of course the front suspension would need to be custom so that the CVT and drive axels would have somewhere to go but you would have AWD without the pesky drive shaft going through the fuel tank problem.

True, the battery pack would add 300lbs to the car but since they are batteries you can move them to wherever you want. That could translate to a weight distribution of 50/50 for example.

The nice thing is that the engine and transaxel parts should bolt right in place in the back of the car. If I could source the 3mz and all the appropriate drivetrain parts inexpensively, I would do it. Gocasen04-21-2006, 03:55 PMThink about the aftermarket though. If you thought getting parts for the stock v6's imagine the hybrid! Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
