View Full Version : MR2 Uk Celica light conversion

teamshock nick04-11-2006, 04:19 PMSorry if this is in the wrong section.

Hi Guys.

In 2 weeks time my car goes into a bodyshop over here in the Uk to have my old Toms bumper removed and replaced with the Border bumper.

Im also having 7th Gen Celica lights grafted onto the car after being inspired by the Orange Veilside kitted Us MR2 i saw on here.

To my knowledge its not yet been done in the Uk, im not sure if its been done yet at all with the Border bumper?

I was going to go for a set of scrap celica lights but found a set of Eagle Eyes after market Celica lights that i got imported from a company called X3 Racing in Calafornia.

I havent yet made it known on the Uk sites that im doing it because the show season for us is starting and i dont want the idea to be nicked just before it comes out the bodyshop. I know a few of the Uk owners read this site please guys keep this to yourself for a bit until i post it up on the Uk sites. This is the first site i have posted about the conversion on.

I will keep the post updated with progress pictures as and when.

This is the current state of the MR2..

as yet i dunno if i should black mesh the bumper, put 3/4 euro bars in or use silver mesh.

Any comments or help will be greatley recived. Mister2.204-11-2006, 05:21 PMBars may look decent in there with those lights and bumper... Well keep us updated, can't wait to see how this turns out. canadam04-11-2006, 05:25 PMIs the Tom's bumper you're taking off the car authentic or replica ? Sirc04-11-2006, 05:30 PMWhile you're at it, get some nice wheels. PHOENIX04-11-2006, 05:53 PMwow, nice looking car.

definatly keep us updated, id like to see how the lights look on your car when it gets done. When you take some pics for us to drool over, could you do a couple different angled shots for us? teamshock nick04-12-2006, 02:48 PMIs the Tom's bumper you're taking off the car authentic or replica ?

im not worried that they look to big now. ween19104-25-2006, 01:23 PMdo you think the gap between the frunk and the front bumper will get larger once you get the other light in? or do you already have plans to take care of that?

it is already looking better then i imagined (the photochop does no justice to what you are turning it into) and i can not wait too see the completed project. should look real nice. great work. teamshock nick04-25-2006, 01:34 PMlol i very much hope the gap will be sorted yes.

Just everytime i look at it, I'm going crosseyed and i'm really not sure why. Photochop made it look like a 350z but in practice looks much much better. keep the updates coming =) teamshock nick05-04-2006, 02:05 PMright some new pics today.

Because the celica lights curve diffrently than the curve of the MR2 wing there was a a small gap left so they have built both wings up with a layer of fiberglass.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/projectprelude/driverssideMedium.jpg

Bonnet being welded to make shape for the lights. You can see that the sheet has been slightly curved to meet the headlight.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/projectprelude/passangersideMedium.jpg ween19105-04-2006, 02:10 PMyou had to move the lights up farther to get rid of the original gap? looks hella good so far. that is gonna look like a beast when it is done. i cant wait! im more then jealous right now haha. teamshock nick05-04-2006, 02:45 PMhmm, how do you mean mate? the side that has a cut out of the shape of the light on it is a new peice welded. jakobe05-04-2006, 02:48 PMwow that is the best light conversion idea i have seen yet
good luck PETC05-04-2006, 11:02 PMThat looks great so far!!!! ween19105-05-2006, 09:35 AMhmm, how do you mean mate? the side that has a cut out of the shape of the light on it is a new peice welded.

when you posted the picture of the driver side light being fitted, you had not cut into the Veilside sticker at all. but at that point, there was also a gap. it looks like the place for the headlight has been moved up and more of the hood had been cut into part of the Veilside sticker. was this to get rid of that gap?

keep the pics comin! ecm garrett05-05-2006, 10:56 AMvery neat! looking good teamshock nick05-12-2006, 03:07 PMnew pics

Raptor13x05-15-2006, 04:18 AMYou've got more skill than I with the bodywork.

Personally, I prefer the FTO and FD RX-7 headlight conversions, but it looks like you're doing a good job there. teamshock nick05-16-2006, 12:41 PMyeah man taken shape! 8) not long now

The paint match is spot in much better than i expected it to be. The light beam needs moving down there proper bright! i think it looks awesome but think i need bigger rims now!

Top job cheers K! and the boys at Xquiste! PETC05-22-2006, 06:06 PMThat is REALLY awesome looking, still looks like there are some gaps that need working out though.

Overall GREAT job! And if I ever get some body work done that is on the list! Sirc05-22-2006, 06:14 PMWOW that does look EXCELLENT. ween19105-23-2006, 03:22 PMvery very very nice! Just Wong It05-23-2006, 07:40 PMwow the outcome looks very very nice Gairloch05-23-2006, 07:55 PMCongratulations on succeeding on not only being unique but also cool  5FistsoftheNorthStar05-23-2006, 08:24 PMWow, I always did like how the celica lights looked. Excellent on the choice and job!

I wonder how it would've looked with the front signal lights still on. Are you gonna bondo the rest of the bumper where the mouldings are? docneon05-25-2006, 02:31 PMMaybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan. The hood doesn't look like it closes right (lifted in the center) the gap around the top of the driver's side light is awkward and looks notched.
All in all, just not my flavor. It is unique though PETC05-25-2006, 02:45 PMWhy are you sarcastic about it being unique?

It IS unique.... I'm not getting your sarcasm. WoRR Pyro05-25-2006, 03:32 PMDunno, first impression: That's the sex.

Second impression: hood needs to be adjusted. =/ Would love to see a border hood on it, but that'd be nigh impossible with the modifications.. either way, Good job. AceX05-25-2006, 04:58 PMIts not perfect, but its a dam good job. You should be proud of it. Display it with the hood propped up and no one will ever no of the minor imperfections. Sirc05-25-2006, 07:06 PMHow's the beam dispersal? docneon05-25-2006, 08:03 PMWhy are you sarcastic about it being unique?

It IS unique.... I'm not getting your sarcasm.

My sarcasam is just because of my taste. I'm more of the blend in kinda guy. My 2 is completely stock on the outside. Kind of a sleeper although power mods are limited. I would rather spend my money on making my car faster, lighter, or improving the handling instead of making my car look fast, unique, or otherwise.

For instance I would rather buy rims and tires that are lighter (or about the same weight in a lower profile) that look good. I don't need chrome rims or 19s or Celica headlights, bomex bumpers or three story wings (in general). It is just my opinion that the money could be better spent. teamshock nick04-13-2012, 06:00 AMbloody hell this is a blast from the past. I thought i had lost all these pics

It changed loads since the last photos MyRiceIsNice04-13-2012, 08:23 AMMy sarcasam is just because of my taste. I'm more of the showoff kinda guy. My 2 is completely rice on the outside. (Above quote totally reedited and misquoted for purpose of satire and humour:undecided)

Three story wings? Where can you get them? I have only found my double rice double decker wing so far, help a man out in need!!

(Yes, I actually have me double decker wing in the respray shop right now bee'n fiksed) 780GTS04-14-2012, 11:00 PMI personally wouldn't want it cuz i like pop up lights but I like how it turned out its pretty bad ass SW20MR204-20-2012, 01:44 PMbloody hell this is a blast from the past.
