View Full Version : Detailing your MR2 Tire Shine

PHOENIX03-29-2006, 05:57 PMeverytime i use a tire shining product, it works great while sitting there but when i drive it, it flings everywhere and gets on my paint. Anyone know if this stuff is bad for paint? N8s93turbo03-29-2006, 07:05 PMit works best if you run a sponge over it after its applied, or appy it with a sponge. Lasts longer and doesnt fling everywhere. bufferdan03-29-2006, 09:45 PMYea...and if you need to just go over it with a old microfiber after you apply it PHOENIX03-29-2006, 09:47 PMthanks

is this stuff bad for paint? N8s93turbo03-29-2006, 09:51 PMit wont harm the paint if you wash your car normally. If you leave it on there for an extended amount of time then i donno. PHOENIX03-29-2006, 09:53 PMokay, as long as its not like brake fluid and 1 drop gets on there and your screwed. Again, thanks for the info ALLSHOTUP03-29-2006, 10:36 PMI like my tires to look very black and to not have a whole lot of shine. There for I will spray the Meguiar's dressing on the tire and let it sit for an hour or so before wiping it down. This way I allow it to be absorbed into the rubber.

Eric wallcrawlr03-30-2006, 09:04 AMWith all tire products you have to let them sit a bit to "dry" or wipe off the excess.

Cuz as you know itll splatter otherwise.

I use this:

It really works good and last awhile.

Also for a quick application, Ill use this.

I really like all the Mequirs NXT products. N8s93turbo03-31-2006, 10:19 PMI just bought the NXT tire cleaner about 15min ago. 91T_SW2004-01-2006, 02:58 PM^^^ As I said in the title this is by far the BEST Tire shine I've used..

And I have used all types of shines to find the best overall wet black look and soemthing that doesn't slick off or wash away when it rains..

I've used all meguiar tire shine even their gel.

This one totally out performs all of them. I've been getting alot of praises and asked many times how do i get my tires to look the way they do and stay that way.

Go find them at your local store.;) http://www.armorall.com/images/prodshot_etsgel.jpg MR2TRD104-01-2006, 05:06 PMI read on a Subaru forum that these products actually weaken the side wall of the tire when they are first applied. Alot of guys who do mountain runs had alot of experiene and testing to prove it. It was an interesting article..I'll see if I can find it. wallcrawlr04-01-2006, 06:37 PMgood comments on an armor all product?

thats unexpected

Thanks for the info! I'll give it a try next time... Armorall Extreme Tire shine has been my favorite so far...but im willing to try this too G3aR04-03-2006, 06:05 PMwhen i put on tire shine, i usually put it on at night, so that way it has all night to dry before i drive teh car again the next morning blue-sun08-14-2006, 02:31 PMI use Meguiars Hyper Dressing in a 3:1 ratio.

it's a water based dressing, so it won't sling as much or attract dust as much.

While my MR2 isn't daily driven, I have seen 6 weeks out of an application of HD.

I apply it to the tire, then spray an addition 2 sprays to a terry cloth applicator pad and wipe the tire down.

It's not easily found in stores, I buy it buy the gallon concentrated.

Good stuff! TheAmazingDave10-26-2006, 03:01 AM^^^ As I said in the title this is by far the BEST Tire shine I've used..

I vouch for this stuff. I use it on my Deuces and truck. It's a gel so it goes on smooth and thick and it doesn't fling everywhere when you drive.

The shine lasts so long that after the tires and car get dirty, all you have to do is wash them off and the tires are still shiny.

Like the Meguiar's tire shine, it comes with an applicator sponge thing-a-mabob. PeStVic10-26-2006, 06:50 AMjust find the tire shine you like best. and then buy those tire shine aplicators its like 2 bucks for two. and it a rounded sponge. works perfect for me. blue-sun10-26-2006, 02:28 PM99.9% of tire shine on the market is silicone based, this means that any dust will be attracted to it, the potential for sling-off is higher and the longevity isn't as good as a water based product. Not to mention it's greasy feeling.
