Sahow11-06-2009, 09:41 AMSo I have a 1991 non turbo mr2 waiting for me to swap it's engine. It's bone stock and was wondering what's the best engine I can get for 5k for the engine itself not including labor. lsgheero11-06-2009, 10:29 AMIs this engine/trans or just engine, Are you wanting something that bolts right it or do you mind work to get mounts in place, etc?

As for direct bolt in if you are wanting power I would say Gen 3 3s-gte and take the left over funds for engine buildup. STLMR2na11-06-2009, 10:37 AMyea for sure if your budget is 5k, buy a 3sgte and tran for like 2k and you'll have plenty left over to mod it over 300hp easy RC MR211-06-2009, 10:47 AMu can get a 3sgte or a Beams :D lsgheero11-06-2009, 10:48 AMIf is wanting to drag race the 3sgte is likely a better option for him, its faster. mr220v11-06-2009, 11:17 AM5k gets you a 2grfe. STLMR2na11-06-2009, 11:41 AMRC forget beams if he has 5k to blow lol!

beast out a 3sgte Bak@EMSPowered11-06-2009, 11:50 AMIf you want a full Gen3 3sgte swap let me know, we're selling Gen3's now and have a few ready to ship. They'll come with the LSD transmission, motor, ECU, full uncut wiring harness, ct20b turbo, and everything you need to get going. mr311-06-2009, 02:24 PMYou outta start selling the complete package with everything done. Wiring harness already swaped, hoses necessary, etc. That's what I'll be looking forward to when I get the mk2 project. I wouldnt mind a complete P&P kit. Just thought I'd share my $.02. We do. It's the entire swap with all the wiring harness, ecu, transmission and everything. Just posted up a sale on it actually: http://mr2.zhutiblog.com/com/forums/ems-powered/Toyota-MR2-46789-sale-gen3-3sgte-swap-w-lsd-transmission.html Sahow11-06-2009, 11:20 PMGuess i'm going for the 3gste . I know this is by choice but what do you guys think would be the best turbo Bak@EMSPowered11-07-2009, 04:13 PMGuess i'm going for the 3gste . Depends on your power goals and types of driving you plan to do. Sahow11-09-2009, 07:45 AMI just plan on running 12s on the track. Or mabe less Bak@EMSPowered11-09-2009, 10:28 AMI just plan on running 12s on the track. Or mabe less

Go with a Gen3 for sure. It will require much less work to get you faster than a Gen2. Texas_Ace11-13-2009, 09:39 PMI just plan on running 12s on the track. Or mabe less

Just some FYI for you, i ran a 7.9 @ 91 in the 1.8th mile on a bone stock 3rd gen with EMSpowered S252 turbo kit.

More videos on my account.

Those 1/8th times are about a 12.00 flat in the 1/4 and that is a BONE STOCK 3rd gen with the S252 running 17psi. It easily has a high 11 in it with some good tires.

I now have an AEM stand alone, about to get some meth and possible cams and i will see what it will do with that. Then i will try the S256 and see what it does! Just have to fix my tranny first :-( Sahow11-14-2009, 12:26 AMWow man congrats on the 7.9 Texas_Ace11-14-2009, 01:01 AMWow man congrats on the 7.9

Thanks, it was a good pass but far from perfect. On a perfect pass as it sat i should have been able to hit at least a 7.7 on the tires i had and lower with some slicks. That is a high 11 in the 1/4 mile.

Not bad for a virtually stock car. mr2v63vz11-14-2009, 01:54 AMif this is a dd then turbo v6 all the way
if its a drag then i have to agree a gen 3 3s is gonna be alot easier to produce numbers Bak@EMSPowered11-14-2009, 07:21 AMif this is a dd then turbo v6 all the way

I have to highly disagree. A turbo v6 requires quite a bit of work to get running and a lot of custom work. It is not really a drop in solution. 99% of the MR2 community would not be able to do a v6 swap, let alone a turbo v6, simply due to how complicated it would be and how much extra custom fabrication it would require.

Also, if you've ever driven a properly setup gen2 or gen3 with a nice fast spooling turbo, you'd know that they are a blast to drive around town as a daily driver. And on top of that they get great gas milage when you stay off the boost because they are still a 4 cylinder. mr2v63vz11-14-2009, 09:12 AMdidnt say it was gonna be easy! Sahow11-14-2009, 12:43 PMLol I just finally got the MR2, i have to wait 2 weeks before i get my license so far I'm going to have the fastest car in my high school. I kinda dont trust my school with an engine swap but i'm going to give it try cause the labor would cost much less for me since i'm a student. Whos car was that who did 6.87 Texas_Ace11-14-2009, 01:47 PMThat was Dedicated Matts car, he was running "low boost" with "only" ~600hp that night.

Next morning he tried to start it and he blew the engine, it is being rebuilt as we speak. Sahow11-14-2009, 02:00 PMThat was Dedicated Matts car, he was running "low boost" with "only" ~600hp that night.
