I need a picture of the TRD springs. ni-sama02-27-2006, 02:42 PMI can't really say how they compare in ride to others because these are the only lowering springs I've had for this car. Here is pic from the side with stock tires and rims.

The back is perfect as far as I'm concerned. It brings the wheel gap down to nothing but the front could be another few cm down, there is still a bit of a gap. I really like the way the car handles now with the TRD/Bilstein struts combo. How do they ride though? Im interested in a slightly stiffer ride, but I dont want to have to go 2mph on a brick road. Being able to go 5mph would be nice. (currently not possible on my intrax springs. KyleScha06-29-2006, 03:06 AMI have illuminas and TRD springs, and they are great. I actually found that once I put my new suspension on the ride was much smoother (with illumina set at 1 anyway, and my two rear struts were blown). Also, it definitely lowers the car a little bit more than 1 inch. Its closer to 1.25.

I wouldnt worry about ride quality, especially if roads are decent where you live. But I have no problem and its very comfortable.

btw, the pic in my sig is stock 93 suspension. MuMan11-18-2009, 09:29 PMThe TRD springs come in 2 versions, black & white (JDM) The black seem to be the most common. The drop on a '91 was 1.25" and later models is 1".
The black TRD springs at first glance seem a bit light, and appear to be progressive, but there's a number of dead coils and they ride more like a linear spring. The TRD white JDM springs are much heavier and more for track use.

I teamed a set of black with Tokico Illuminas also, set on 2 front & rear. The drop was even on all 4 wheels, and pretty much ideal for street use. Ride is firm but compliant, and certainly not harsh at all. A good choice for street performance & they work well, even with stock bars.

The drop was perfect for me and the car handled very well. The ride wasn't too bad but I ended up switching to 93 springs to have a softer ride. Around here they love putting speed bumps on any road with a 25mph limit and it just became too much of a pain to constantly go over them with a lowered car.

These are not TRD 'Gymkhana' springs, as actual gymkhana springs do not lower the ride height of the car, and these are considerably shorter than the oem springs. They are possibly an early set of TRD race springs, which lowered the ride considerably, and were painted in various colors over the years.
I have a set of TRD AW11 'Gymkhana' springs, which I got from Japan, and they are almost identical in spring height to the stock springs, but the individual coils are slightly thicker, which give them their stiffer spring rate, of 2.4kg front, and 4.9kg rear. Needed a slight roll on the rear for 255's, but I've never had any issues with rubbing even on steep driveways or speed bumps. May be the difference between Koni's and Illuminas, but for me it worked out the perfect compromise for a street car. The Tokico Illiminas will definitely help avoid the steep driveway and speedbump issues because they increase compression stiffness, whereas Koni does not, plus Konis are known to have soft compression characteristics at slow speeds. I run up to 4 front, three rear on my 93T with TRDsprings/illumina struts, and low profile tires

215/40/17 and 255/35/18 in the back


The ride is really nice. It's even nicer with the stock 93 wheels and tires on.


The only real complaint I have is that the front actually seems too soft for the struts. It likes to dip and float around long sweeping curves a bit too much for my taste. And, I do have all new suspension parts up front and in the back.


I bought some coilovers for my car to put on over the winter. But, I really like just about everything on my current setup.. just want something stiffer.
