gsus     $ 0.00 DId i do my timing correctly? Hey guys, I did my timing belt last night, and I tried my best to follow the directions on the FSM as much as possible, but I’m not sure if I did the timing belt correctly . I turned the couple of times and the timing marks seem to be where they are supposed to be, but I’m not sure if the timing marks on the timing belts are supposed to match up with the timing marks on the pulleys once the crank has been turned though… should I redo the timing belt, or is the timing fine?

Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the install to show that the timing marks on the belt were aligned with the marks on the pulleys to begin with. Here are some pics of the belt as it is right now:

** another question, I got a brand new water pump... but it came with a gasket for the water pump (again, I forgot to take pictures). I used the gasket, which was metal & had rubber gasket rings around the water pump propeller & the t-stat housing area. I torqued it to specs... but now i'm wondering if i should've just use FIPG like the FSM has stated?

Gocasen     $ 0.00 I don't think you will experiance problems with the gasket that came with the water pump. If its worrying you you can pull off the water pump and put on some FIPG.

TKMR2     $ 0.00 as long as the marks on the pulleys line up you're fine. Reply With Quote 08-07-2006, 12:57 AM #4 Oteck View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries NanoDEATH! Oteck     $ 15.00 eh.. i wouldn't use the timming mark on the pulley as a guide, theres should be marks on the crank gear and if my mz timming guide is the same as yours. you botched the timming good

i can't see this one too well but there should be a circle indentaion on the ring lip Reply With Quote 08-07-2006, 01:02 AM #5 TKMR2 View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries Biff Tannen Join Date Oct 2005 Location Las Vegas, NV Posts 411 Thanks  11 Thanks  3 Thanked in3 Posts Total Contributions For

gsus     $ 0.00 Thanks TKMR2 & Oteck, I'm thinking the belt marking was just for the initial installation? and my crank is at 0* (the "dot" was on the timing belt pulley is covered up by the crank) and all the timing marks seem to be aligned... so I'm good right? -Jesús

Oteck     $ 15.00 theres nothing wrong w/ the timming belt, your cam gears are way off. if you didn't see my highlidhts the cam marking should be where those lines on the belts are. It's hard to tell that the timing marks on the gears are matched up... cuz i suck at taking pictures .

here are some slightly bigger pictures of the cam gears:

should the timing marks on the belt match up with the cam gears once i've turned the crank? -Jesús

Oteck     $ 15.00 keep turning then cuz it's not like a 1:1 could have to turn it another bagillion times to align them. just like our solar system Reply With Quote 08-07-2006, 01:17 PM #12 gsus View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries Hey!
