neo_static_2009     $ 0.00 Have you ever Considered your MR2 as a platform for Professional Racing? Very simple question. Do you have a MR2 generation preference? Engine specs? Race class?

I've been giving this serious thought and I might journey down this path... I'm currently building a demon engine that's going to push 600-700hp with a 9k red line.

I love racing, the track, the adrenaline rush lol... Smurfcrusher     $ 0.00 please be careful. MR2s can get squirrelly at high horsepower levels.

what kind of racing are you thinking of?

I really like the MKII turbo, but at high speeds the front end can get light. Reply With Quote 06-17-2012, 10:09 PM #3 adrenaline360 View Profile View Forum Posts View Blog Entries Cage Fighter Join Date Dec 2011 Posts 197 Thanks  1 Thanks  5 Thanked in5 Posts Total Contributions For

I really like the MKII turbo, but at high speeds the front end can get light. Pretty sure a huge front splitter would solve that and give him loads of front end grip. TomsMR2     $ 0.00 modified mr2's get hideously outclassed in every racing venue i can think of.

plus 700hp mr2's blow up all the time. 300hp is MUCH more appropriate for racing. baribari     $ 0.00 For a 2.0-liter or 2.2 liter turbo, it can be a very fast drag car. It has great traction.

Versus anything else... it depends on the other car.

The difference a liter makes versus a Supra single turbo is huge.

It takes a lot of work to get an MR-2 to be as fast as an FD on a road course, and in the end the fastest modded cars on the track are either FDs or Lan Evos, with GT-Rs, Supras, and Silvias coming in behind them. The rear end is just too damn heavy and there are enough parts made for the SW.

As far as Japanese cars go, at least. Reply With Quote 06-19-2012, 03:14 AM #6 Oteck View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries NanoDEATH! Contrary to what A LOT of people think, the MR2 is not that great in the handling department. It's too oversteer happy (which can also be fun too). But it's white knuckle driving when you're pushing it to the limits because at any moment, the ass end can come around on you. However on the flip side, it's the type of car that will make you a better driver. If you can tame an MR2, you will find other cars (mainly FR cars) to be easy to drive. A buddy of mine has an S14 SR20 turbo car and it's extremely predictable when you're going to get loose; just to use as an example. It's worlds easier to drive since I have MR2 driving experience under my belt.

For a purpose built car, well, I'm really into time attack. My preference would be to build an EVO. Possibly a C5 vette with a serious Pfadt suspension upgrade.

On the more budget friendly end, my brother is dabbling with the idea of building a 92-95 Honda Civic hatch w/ a K20R. That'd be sub $10k project.

328FTW     $ 35.00 Depends what the sponsor wants. When you get into pro racing it's not what you want, it's what the people financing you want as well. Unless you're financing it all which is a heavy load.

Also your engine will blow up a lot if you want that kinda power. "race built" is dirty code for breaks a lot. It's the realm where flywheels explode, axles break and pistons randomly blow out of the block I like turtles Reply With Quote 07-02-2012, 01:20 AM #9 Oteck View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries NanoDEATH! PAULLERON     $ 0.00 Taming the MR2 Toyota is a certificate to easy handling of other cars. It is a sports car but before taking it into racing... it would be better to have an improved aerodynamics. .
