Dance_Business     $ 0.00 Mileage What kind of mileage do you all get? Anyone in single digits? Any over 35mpg? 5VZ on an engine stand, waiting for someone to buy it. Buy the whole car, too. Mister2.2     $ 0.00 I'd like to hear more on this myself. One thing I have not seen much with the V6 is gas consumption discussions. What's typical of each motor to get? Enthalpy     $ 0.00 EMSes can unlock some fantastic mileage. My lean-burn 400 crank hp 3S-GTE gets 34 mpg at 75 mph! It would be even better at a slower speed (like 55 or 65).

The V6 mileages from a nice lean-burn setup would probably be over 30, seeing as how I usually get 26-28 out of my stock 3VZ-FE Camry. Weasy2k     $ 0.00 the 5vz sees 13-14mph with a heavy foot supercharged in my tacoma which wieghs 1000lbs more.

If your running it at 2000rpm and 60mph that engine will go upwards of 24mpg with the s/c (less without) Reply With Quote 05-18-2006, 12:28 PM #9 Node View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries Visit Homepage Mild Steel = Big Gains Join Date Feb 2005 Location WNC Posts 1,277 Thanks  0 Thanks  15 Thanked in15 Posts Total Contributions For
Node     $ 0.00 WOW, I never saw numbers that high! I would look into the location of the MAF. You could move it before the turbo and put a recirculating hose onto the BPV. That may help improve the mileage.

Im with Enthalpy on this one. An EMS is the next step for that car once you are happy with the IC pipes etc. FOR SALE:__ SKYLINE RB25DE-T S13 300dyno WHP!

PETC     $ 0.00 I get 24-25 MPG usually.

However, I've done an experiment this tank to see how good of gas mileage I can get.

I haven't shifted over 2.5K
Haven't traveled at above 60 MPH.
Haven't taken the t-tops off or rolled down the windows.
Haven't turned the AC on.
And when I'm traveling the speedlimit on a flat road I use the cruise control.

I'm at 275 miles right now on a tank, which is normaly unheard of, and I've still got more than enough gas to get home 30 miles away. So I'll fill up right before I get home and hopefuly my car won't be tricking me. -1993 MR2 Turbo 275WHP (Gen 3, EBC @ 11/17 PSI, KO Racing downpipe, Berk V2 exhaust, Apex'i Power Intake, TRD Springs, BFG gForce Sports, Tial BOV, TomsMR2 FSTB, TRD Thermostat, ACT 6-Puck Clutch with HD pressure plate, Walbro 255.)

That EMS will certainly do the trick. So I'll fill up right before I get home and hopefuly my car won't be tricking me. At low RPM, it takes MUCH less gas pedal deflection to dip into rich torque operation (at or near full manifold pressure). It's easy to do because low RPM offers such little power as well, so it's easy to tend to push the gas harder. Low shift points have to be coupled with moderation or it won't work.

This is why I put vacuum gauges in even my stock cars. If I can keep the manifold pressure below ~80% of ambient, then I know I'm not dipping into the rich portion of the fuel map. erioshi     $ 0.00 I am curious to see what kind of mileage the stock 1mz-fe gets on the race track. With my (modded) Evo on a fast track I have gotten as low as 4 mpg - that's about 20 minutes between fill-ups, or getting near 1 gallon per lap. Last summer, on days where I logged lots of track time, I've spent $150 on just gas. I can't imagine doing that with current gas prices.

I expect the MR2 to get much better mileage. Weasy2k     $ 0.00 oh snaps

i have another thoery on this...

The stock maf on the 5vz is 93% open at 7.5psi.....
imagine putting a turbo on the engine which has better airflow. This could explain why you are seeing bad gasmilage...you are going beyond the limit of the MAF and the ecu is like "OH **** BATMAN!! FUEL FUEL FUEL!" Hmmm so, at 6PSI on that large intercooler core, I bet its close but I dont think its beyond what the MAF can do. I ran those twin turbos at 8.5 with the same core and the car was on the lean side. Thats why I backed off to 6 psi on the bigger single turbo. That turbo is a LOT more efficent then those little twins. I suppose its possible.

I do agree that kind of mileage sounds like the ECU is compensating for something. Did you pull that mechanical temp sensor out that I was telling you about? If so are you sure the coolent is topped off. The ECU engine temp sensor is at the top of the web so any bubbles could throw off the reading. It may be something as simple as topping off the coolent.
