tilma800     $ 0.00 Volvo/Yamaha V8? At the local Dutch mr2board someone mentioned the possebility of the 4.4L V8 that Yamaha designed for the Volvo X90. It's supposed to be a ver narrow block and is mounted in the same rotation as our engines.
What are your thougts on this engine? Is it possible that it's kind of bolds on to the our gearboxes, because it's designed an build by Yamaha, like the 3s engines?

I'm not planning to do this, but I'm interested in the possibillities for our two's Reply With Quote 04-20-2006, 06:14 PM #2 Mister2.2 View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries Cheese it! canadam     $ 0.00 Can you find the engine code for that engine ? Maybe some specs ? Hopefully its not the same V8 used in late SHO Tauruses.

EDIT from Wikipedia:

A new Volvo V8 engine was added in 2005. This 4.4 L Yamaha V8 engine produces 311 hp (232 kW) and 325 ft.lbf (441 Nm).
Probably a very expensive engine. I'm going to look into the feasibility Parts for sale: German Radio Trim -- Dandism Glass -- '98+ Steering Wheel -- K-Sport Endlinks -- TRD HIDs -- TRD FPR -- and more!!!

SpeedballTrix     $ 0.00 So it was just built in '05 by Yamaha for Volvo? I had assumed it was an existing engine and Volvo acquired it in '05. You're probably right. Its likeley a revised version of an older yamaha designed V8. We need some sort of transmission bolt pattern crossreference. Does anyone know the specs on the engine? Is it narrow angle? A 60* would do niceley. FOR SALE:__ SKYLINE RB25DE-T S13 300dyno WHP!

canadam     $ 0.00 Yup, 60*

4.4 Liter, 8 Cylinder, Transversal, Naturally Aspirated.
Horsepower: 311 @ 5,850 rpm
Torque: 325 @ 3,900 rpm

Electronic engine management, 32 valves and continuously variable inlet and exhaust valve timing (Dual CVVT) promote high performance, smooth running and superior effect from low revs. The engine is cast aluminum for minimum weight and optimum balance. Transversely mounted, with its 60-degree upright architecture, it requires little space. Beyond providing the vehicle with a generous interior, this space aids the performance of the frontal deformation zones in the event of an accident. canadam     $ 0.00 I've read that this engine is a redesign of the V8 used in third generation Taurus SHOs. In that setting, it didn't get much credit. Problems in the head, I believe.

esphorizon     $ 0.00 Yamaha only designs the heads of these motors (ford 4.4 v8, 3SGTE, etc.), not the blocks. So the chances of the Toyota tranny bolting up would be slim to none. canadam     $ 0.00 Apparently no Toyota transaxle bolts up. You have to use the POS Mazda one the SHO did. Parts for sale: German Radio Trim -- Dandism Glass -- '98+ Steering Wheel -- K-Sport Endlinks -- TRD HIDs -- TRD FPR -- and more!!!
