Alex W     $ 50.00 Question for RickyB: Progress on the Stock ECU MAF Project?? Last spring I remember hearing talk of the possibility of reprograming the stock ECU to handle a larger hotwire MAF sensor, and the possibility of 800cc injectors was even thrown arround. This was partially dependent / going alongside another project to provide a user-tuneable interface for the stock ECU.

It appears that the tuning interface / hardware for the stock ECU is getting close to ready, and I was wondering if any progress had been made on the other half of the project. RickyB     $ 0.00 I'm currently developing a speed density version of the ROM code. There are major differences between the 91-92 and 93-95 ECUs and I'm currently reverse-engineering the portions of the 93-95 code that is different from the 91-92 which I have fully decoded. This is evening/weekend work since my daily tuning work keeps me so busy. I am working with a well known member of the MR2 community and her car will be the first to run the stock gen2 ECU without an AFM.

As far as running with larger injectors, that is a trivial change even in the stock ECU code if you know how to do it. I have all the Techtom hardware and software and could easily be selling ROM tunes that go well beyond what anyone has done in this area so far. Problem is, all my dyno experiments show that the AFM flap door completely opens before 250rwhp and beyond that point you cannot provide a perfect tune. Given that, I will not provide ROM tunes until I have everything in place to do them to my standards. Last edited by RickyB; 12-01-2007 at 02:47 PM. Alex W     $ 50.00 Wonderful news. The issue with the AFM resolution has been the reason I have been hesitant to go with one of the ATS rom tunes, especially the 550cc TD06 tune.

Now my other question at this point is, will this still be a mail order tune, or due to the nature of speed density would each system have to be tuned onsite? Each tune will be offered only for a very specific set of modifications and not much deviation from that set will be allowed. For individuals or companies that want to develop a specific ROM tune for their parts, I will provide a way for them to develop and test fuel, timing and trim maps at their own location from which I will then be able to formulate a static ROM image. That way others can develop maps and I can provide them with chips that they or their customers can plug into any existing Techtomed ECU and get exact fueling and timing they need from it. Alex W     $ 50.00 Ahh, so if you have a well defined setup, say a Berk intercooler and exhaust with a TD06 and 264 cams for example then there will probably be a mail order setup? A custom exhaust and TMIC with an HX35 not so much? Last edited by Alex W; 12-01-2007 at 07:15 PM.
