Ncturnal     $ 10.00 That should go to the Toyota Museum. I forwarded the auction link to them. That is too sweet, but it's something that needs to stay in its current condition. TheAmazingDave     $ 0.00 Wow. If I had the cash, I'd buy that and swap a GTE into it!

lol, j/k. I'd buy that and put it in one of those plastic bubbles that inflates to like 5-8 PSI or something so when shit falls on the bubble it just bounces off. blazinmr2     $ 0.00 That was a sad waste of a car. Who buys a car like that and hardly puts any miles on it? What's the fun in that? carcrazyguy     $ 0.00 I got a kick out of some of the questions the guy was getting...but then again, if you stick something like that on Ebay you are setting yourself up for it.
On a similar note, like new 0-10K Z32 (300ZX) are on Ebay often, but this is extremely rare to see someone that actually treated their MR2 as it should have been from day 1. Heck, it is near impossible to find one that was not treated bad, much less even normal wear.
If I had tons of cash, I would buy that car out of principle, but since I don't, I can rest OK knowing I have a pretty good facsimile for roughly one tenth of the price of that one (mine looks indentical).
I just hope the buyer leaves that car alone and keeps it in the condition it is in now. Anything else would be a shame.

If you have to ask, then nothing we can say will ever make you understand. Chances are the owner has other cars and only drove this one on special occasions. I am sure he remembers every mile. Now he can make nearly twice what he paid for it, and make another (well to do) hard core MR2 enthusiast the happiest person alive who will own the conversation piece of MR2 meets / shows for years to come. Or for that matter, if he kept the car - taking that much care of the car and only driving it occasionally, he could easily get 40 + years of ownership out of it and would own a absolute rare antique at some point - or someone could drive it everyday, raise hell in it, and gets lots of dings at Wal Mart and have an average Joe $1200 MKI in a matter of a couple years. Mister-Twoster     $ 0.00 Wait, so let me get this straight... tons of rust, various holes and tears in the seats, brown spots on the seats, cracked and sundried steeringwheel, non-existant shiftboot, rattling sunroof, large open stereo hole, permanent interior exhaust smell, broken speedo, extremely dim lights, plethora of rattles and creaks, and power windows that work every now and then isnt stock?!! I must have gotten ripped off, because my car only has 311....

Oh, the ebay one has 3000 miles. Mine has 311,000. THAT might explain it.

Whew, that was fun. Anyways, this is a beautiful car, without a doubt the best MR2 ive ever seen un-molested. Id probably make a room in my house to keep it in. Screw selling it, even if he DID make double what he payed for it. It doesnt look like it matters how much he gets out of it, considering he said he has "too many toys" and "one on the way." Whatever floats his boat i guess. '91 JDM Gen II turbo swap, 93 LSD Tranny, 94 Tails, two-tone red/black, Billstein all 'round.

I see what you are saying carcrazy and I do understand. But 18 years and only 3,000 miles, (which is amazing and if I were him I would not sell this car because of above said reasons by car crazy) I really don't know what I am trying to say, I guess it sounds like he had a lot of other fun cars as well, so I can understand why he rarely drove his 2. I gots me a 91 na hardtop, with 200,000 miles on it, custom intake, custom motor mounts, speedsource brass shifter cable bushings, Jon O short shift bracket, Kvr carbon fibre brake pads, and for shoes I got 17 inch gunmetal rotas.

Tyler H     $ 0.00 I just don't get it. If you can afford to buy a car and not use it.... If it is that special to you, that you only drive it on special occasions.... Can you not afford to just keep it? Where was the love lost? Reply With Quote 11-05-2005, 09:10 PM #13 Mister2.2 View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries Cheese it! Mister2.2     $ 0.00 I think at a certain point I would be so paranoid about driving it even once every year down the road, I would pretty much just have to sell it.

Can you imagine having a car like that, driving it once a year and then some jerk pulls out and smashes it into bits! The guy is 64, so he bought this car when he was in his mid 40's. Chances are his lifestyle has changed to the extent where he has no interest in small sporty cars anymore, or maybe he cannot even get in and out of it comfortably. Also, knowing he can double his money while making a (wealthy) MR2 nut the happiest human alive could also be an incinitive to finally sell before he retires. Either way, he probably bought the car originally for an occasional back road car, for weekends to Palm Springs, or for whatever. He was pushing 50 then so I doubt he was out crusing the block and hitting the tracks all weekend long.
If I had the money, I would also own several cars, and the weekend cars would not see must mileage at all, just driven for fun only - and if say you have 3 weekend cars, it would be difficult to really rack up miles on them since they don't do the lion share of the mileage driving (to work, school, store, etc).
Imagine how cool it would be to go back in time and buy an MKI brand new...this guy was able to more less have a new MKI any time he sat in it for almost 20 years - and still could if he wanted to for 20 more.
I know this type of thinking isn't common or even doesn't seem rational to most MR2 owners, but this is actually pretty common, but typically with more high dollar cars, NSX, Corvette, 300ZX owners...
Hell, he might have even had 2 MR2's, and drove the other one often and kept that one put away therefore like new for shows, or simply for the uniqueness of having a "new" one. Would that be so weird if someone could afford to do this - or is this guy still a nutjob for not turning his MKI into a typical $1200 road warrior? That doesn't keep Jay Leno from driving around his Deusenbergs...and this is "just" an MR2. I can relate to buying a car to keep for a toy and driving it rarely...I just don't see someone who loves a car that much getting rid of it. Why not just keep it? It was obviously paid for and not costing him anything. Maybe he was hard up for money.

If not, and he was just too old for it, why not hold on to it for a family member?

I don't plan on being so feeble that I can't drive an MR2 by the time I'm 64....at least not for 500mi a year. Hell...we sent John Glen's geriatric ass to space a couple of years ago. Chances are he is retiring to a condo or somewhere where he has no real garage. Also, he probably wants to pass the car on to someone else who can love it the way he probably did for 20 years. This concept may seem a little foriegn, but ask some older people why they will their possesions to their family rather than go to Vegas until it is all gone in their senior years. WIWhite87     $ 0.00 Originally Posted by carcrazyguy ...and if say you have 3 weekend cars, it would be difficult to really rack up miles on them since they don't do the lion share of the mileage driving (to work, school, store, etc). I've got 2 summer-only MR2s. Neither see much mileage. My '89 SC has seen a few long road trips accounting for about 6K of the 11K I've put on it in over 3 years! The '93 T I got last April has only collected 4K in 2 summers (1K this summer). This is splitting time between the '93T and '89SC as daily drivers from May 1-Oct 31.

As it is, I only put on about 74K in 11+ years on my year round, daily-driven '87 NA I had from '93-05. From '93-'02 it was my only car & from '02-'05 did I not drive it much in summer.

I can see how some people easily keep a weekend MR2 collecting 3K or less per year with a second vehicle. Add in a few more weekend or summer-only cars and the mileage decreases even more.
