S7N7STR     $ 0.00 Best bolt-on performance part suggestions Looking to add a new discussion to this page!

- - - Updated - - -

Hey guys! New to the forums! I wanted to start a discussion on a few part choices for the ignorant among us (myself included). What parts have a good wrap and which to avoid. Bolt on turbo upgrades come to mind. S7N7STR     $ 0.00 Okay for starters, I swung by this website. http://www.fastwayracer.com/Turbo-Ki...c32f76832e7e3e
They're selling a bolt-on turbo WITH a manifold! Good for a solid 100hp increase. I would be worried for the tranny with this kind of increase, although other things may hold up...any thoughts? Alex W     $ 50.00 700 for a turbo kit with manifold... let me just say you get what you pay for. If those were quality parts it would be 3-4x that much.

The e153 transmission in the MR2 Turbo is capable of nearly anything you can throw at it, but the inner CV joints do become a weak point relatively early.

Start by reading this: http://mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm Some of the info is a little dated (nobody really does FPR + SAFC tuning anymore that I know of), but otherwise it is a great writeup on making power with the 3SGTE. bkperformance19     $ 600.00 I agree with Alex the turbo alone should cost 1.5X to 2x what the kit costs. The problem with going cheap right off the bat is that you will spend 3X more trying to get it right. S7N7STR     $ 0.00 K, I read through your link Alex! Thanks for the info. Now to the next topic. Engine management systems are always a difficult subject for the new guy, with it being anything except a ford $400 tuner being difficult to use. I want to help the new guy by bringing some attention to any decent engine management systems that you wouldn't need to bring to the mechanic to tune, or read a c++ gui programming guide to use, possibly one with some mild homework required. Any suggestions? Alex W     $ 50.00 There are many options. These days most have a pretty straight forward graphical interface, and it's more about understanding the concepts of tuning and how not to ruin your motor while doing it than any software knowledge. It's a steep learning curve, but not impossible for a decently technical / mechanically minded person to learn. That same site I linked to has a pretty decent tuning primer as well that explains a lot of the basics. It's written with the Hydra Nemesis in mind, but the concepts are universal. bkperformance19     $ 600.00 If your serious about getting an aftermarket EFI system and don't have local resources to help you may want to look into this. www.efi101.com/modules/ Reply With Quote 05-18-2017, 01:54 PM #8 JDMFTW View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message View Blog Entries Some Skills Join Date Nov 2007 Location Michigan, Metro D Posts 58 Thanks  3 Thanks  1 Thanked in1 Post Total Contributions For
JDMFTW     $ 0.00 Swap out to a Ct27 or Ct20b

I suggest a fuel system overhaul and a aftermarket emu. while the engines are old the electronics and tune methodology are even older.
