te51levin09-22-2012, 01:35 AMJust added to the SV3Power catalog: 4AGE 16V/20V Exhaust Header Flange [EX741S] - $27.95 : SV3Power.com, custom MR2 exhaust components (http://www.sv3power.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68&products_id=205)

4AGE 16V/20V Exhaust Header Flange

$27.95

Laser-cut flange fits 16V and 20V Toyota 4AGE heads. Ideal for building your own tubular header or turbo manifold.

Pipe holes are 1.38", will accept 1 3/8" OD tubing; holes also match the ID of most 1.5" OD tubing.

Unique figure-8 and individual bolt holes give more contact area, more clamping force, consistent gasket sealing, greater reliability. Staggered bolt hole sizes, as used on OEM manifold, allow for heat expansion, minimize shear stress on exhaust manifold studs.

Material is 3/8" mild steel. Some people ask for stainless because it looks pretty, but mild steel warps less during welding, is easier to straighten, easier to machine. Mild steel also has less tendency than stainless to distort at very high temperatures, making it the better choice for weld-el (steam pipe) turbo manifold construction.

Like all SV3Power products, this flange fits like OEM and is made in the USA. Why settle for less? yoshimitsuspeed09-22-2012, 11:19 AMJust added to the SV3Power catalog: 4AGE 16V/20V Exhaust Header Flange [EX741S] - $27.95 : SV3Power.com, custom MR2 exhaust components (http://www.sv3power.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68&products_id=205)

I like the holes at the end so much better than the slots. That's great.
It would be silly to use a stainless flange on a mild steel header. The joint would be weak unless you used the right filler. Even then stainless has a different CTE than mild steel and much different than cast iron or cast steel, eventually I imagine that would take it's toll. te51levin09-22-2012, 11:53 AMThanks! I have always wondered why on earth other flanges use slots. There's simply no advantage, other than saving ten cents' worth of time cutting the part out.

Mild steel is definitely the way to go in anything we can afford. The internet has made it easy to worship shiny boutique parts, but that doesn't mean they are necessary, or even correct for the job we want them to do. Nine-Breaker09-22-2012, 09:23 PMIf only I had the skill to make my own manifold. Looks great though! Can't wait for 16v headers, b-pipes, and mufflers! Unfortunately, I cannot 20v until another year or two. te51levin10-09-2012, 02:50 PMHere's one of the new flanges being built into a turbo manifold at Matrix Garage:
