View Full Version : Feeler, 85 mk1 with under 15,000 miles

85silverna08-24-2012, 09:27 AMIm am posting this to see what interest there will be.
I am currently posting what i recall and some facts may be wrong so dont hold me to it. I will be seeing the car soon and i will correct any info then.

Long story short is that I have a friend that owns an 85 MR2. He bought it new from the dealer and has kept it garaged since. If I remember correctly, I think he said it was a white sunroof 5speed with a black interior.

The car has had no accidents and only has minor blemishes to the exterior from the kids that lived where he stored it.

He doesnt really drive the car and has spent more money on storage and insurance over the years than the car cost. I think he is ready to sell and use the money towards something he can enjoy more frequently. He seemed encouraged by the idea of an MR2 "enthusiast" enjoying the car and taking better care of it.

I am going to see the car one of these days this week, and as long as he is still interested in selling, I will be posting pictures and taking offers. I will be posting a starting price as well based on what we agree it is worth, after I confirm the condition of course.

If you are interested, please keep it to this thread for now(no PMs till I see the car), and post up that you would be seriously interested (its not going to be a $3000 car, so keep that in mind).

The more responses, the more likely he will be interested in selling.

-Darren 85silverna08-25-2012, 10:16 AMOkay, I finally got to take a look at the car last night.

Its a Silver 1985 hardtop. It has exactly 12,091 miles.
It has the black interior, ac, and premium sound.

No power steering or cruise.
The only modifications are that he added a 86 sideskirt and an 86 rear spoiler. Both were done in 1986 at the dealer.

It was last run about 6 years ago. The fuel pump was replaced and the tank was cleaned then. It appears that it may need the same service again as it will not pump fuel again.

There is ZERO rust on this car. Even the control arms have the original finish.
With 4 new tires, new rotors and pads, this car is basically new.

There are a few imperfections, all on the drivers side. It seems that the kids wo lived where he was storing it, most likely caused the damage.
The mark on the lf fender seems that it will rub out, and a couple of the others on the left door will be able to be rubbed out as well.
The problem is there are two dents on the upper body line of the car. I will show pics.

He alsosaid that he has the original sticker, and some promo booklets.

Asking price will be determined soon. 85silverna08-25-2012, 10:34 AMhttp://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t45/Grimreaper9876/?action=view¤t=photo-2.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t45/Grimreaper9876/photo-6.jpg 85silverna08-25-2012, 11:06 AMThanks. Damn iphone has been dragging ass lately... jimbosr108-25-2012, 12:43 PMpower steering wasnt available until mk2 1991 85silverna08-25-2012, 01:58 PMIts been a while since ive read up on the mk1s traintech8608-25-2012, 06:08 PMIt seems to be in pretty good shape minus the one ding you noted. I wonder how much people would be willing to pay for it? While i know the 85 is sposed to be lighter, the c50 troubles and the parts compatibility are something i am not into. I really hope someone buys this and gets it back on the road where it belongs. How the hell can this just sit in someones garage and not be driven? and now to be sold to have something to enjoy. Your friend is nuts! 85silverna08-25-2012, 09:57 PMWell, not quite a friend, but a friend of a friend.

We will have to get it running again for the new buyer.

This thing has seen about 50 miles since 1993 if i remember correctly.

It was a toy for him that he put away and more or less forgot about it. Never really got around to keeping it on the road. MR2_BOOST08-26-2012, 02:38 AMHow much? I want it! >. 85silverna08-27-2012, 09:19 AMIt just sold last night. The car was put up on craigslist and was sold within 6 hours.

For those of you wondering, it was put up for $7000 and sold for $6500. traintech8608-27-2012, 09:47 PMlesson learned, your price was to low! haha canadam08-27-2012, 10:00 PMWow. That's a $10,000 car, in my opinion.
I'd have loved to buy it for $6,500. tony241108-27-2012, 10:13 PMThere was a white 1986 MR2 with 25690 miles on it and it was sold for 12,899
That was a gift. 85silverna08-27-2012, 10:49 PMI advised him to hold off until I could establish a value.
He told his friend to post it on craigslist at $500 below the value I had guessed it might be worth(remember it didnt deliver fuel).

Its his loss. bill1234509-12-2012, 06:51 PMHello, I am new to this forum..i bought the car for $6500..I have not had running but had it detailed..it is awesome! I removed the tank and an currently getting it professionally cleaned..i do have 2 questions..what fuel pump and should I use synthetic oil..except for the dent in the door..it really is mint.. te51levin09-12-2012, 09:15 PMwhat fuel pump and should I use synthetic oil...Toyota already engineered the car. Follow their lead and use a stock fuel pump for a stock engine. You can get it from us at LithiaToyotaParts.com or there are less expensive Denso pumps available elsewhere - but I'd be sure to put in only a Denso pump! Quality counts...

Synthetic oil is fine. Again, the engineers have done the work so we don't have to. In other words, try not to let impassioned testimonials by well-meaning, obsessive onlookers convince you that you either cannot or absolutely must use THEIR favorite brand of oil (about which they probably know next to nothing...). Choose a brand and type of oil that is readily available, fits your budget, and meets the viscosity and grade requirements set forth in the owner's manual. canadam09-12-2012, 09:50 PMYour car is very special. Put in a stock fuel pump and if you have to pay way more than you were hoping to get really, really good work done to repair the dent, please stretch and make it work. You will be happy you did if you take care of the car going forward. 85silverna09-12-2012, 10:14 PMBill called me today, and I will be happy to help him with his needs on this car. He plans to get it in running condition and work out the body damage next. From what he told me it will be in safe, climate controlled storage and I'm trying to convince him to put a few miles on it here and there. bill1234509-13-2012, 05:03 PMWow..thanks for the input..i am putting a denso fuel pump in..i canceled my order for the other one..i got it of Amazon for 67% off list..and with the suggestion about put in the correct oil..thanks bill1234509-17-2012, 09:32 PMI finally got it running..it is amazing..it shifts with ease and the whirring sound from the engine..it as my son says..” Dope”..super fun to drive..i am a full fan..hate the idea that I to store it from the Buffalo winter.. bill1234509-17-2012, 09:33 PMThis car is running..and running perfectly..what a gem of a car..so fun! traintech8609-17-2012, 09:57 PMHAHA! thats so awesome that you enjoy it! Since you're storing it for the winter, maybe it would be the time to do any work that needs to be done. 85silverna09-17-2012, 10:19 PMTires. It still has the original yokohamas on it. Eff3ct09-17-2012, 10:30 PMYou absolutely stole that car.

In a good way. traintech8609-17-2012, 11:02 PMI gotta say, that was a pretty cheap buy. Zarek10-04-2012, 02:56 AMWord to the wise... DON'T rest your hand on the shifter knob while driving. You'll mess up the detents and that'll make your tranny pop out of 5th gear. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
