View Full Version : 1MZ O2 sensors question

bryanf08-06-2006, 10:01 AMI am interested to know what people recommend for installing oxygen sensors. My Brad Bedell headers don't have a place to install them. I am planning to use a stock 2001 VVT-i ECU. Do I need to modify the headers? Should I install the sensors in the B-pipe and extend the wires? I noticed both of the stock exhaust manifold have oxygen sensors which are located pretty near the head. Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

http://www.bryanf.com/MR2/images/headers.jpg Enthalpy08-06-2006, 10:40 AMThe response time of the sensor is in part determined by its distance from the head. You have to make sure the sensor is exposed to all cylinders' exhaust streams.

Put it after the collector. Any exhaust shop can weld on a bung for you for pretty cheap.

If you want to put it immediately post-flange in the b-pipe after the headers, that will probably work. Newbiewan08-06-2006, 12:25 PMI also have Brad's headers. I put the O2 sensors just after the collector flanges. The rear bank sensor is a little close to the "Y", so I was a little concerned that it might sense some of the other banks mixture. It turned out not to be an issue. In fact, the discrimination of the separate banks really helped me track down a bad fuel injector by monitoring fuel trims after rearranging injector locations.

Looks like we both have hardtops too. :) Wonder how many V6 hardtops there are so far . . . Oteck08-06-2006, 04:24 PMmmm yeah, asides from that we need a more updated registry. brads page hasn't been updated in ages and nodes other page is just blank bryanf08-06-2006, 06:51 PMmmm yeah, asides from that we need a more updated registry. brads page hasn't been updated in ages and nodes other page is just blank

Agreed  richw13108-08-2006, 10:03 AMI also ordered a set of headers and y-pipe from Brad.

Brad, Will there be an O2 bung in either the headers or the y-pipe? Brad Bedell08-09-2006, 12:31 AMI also ordered a set of headers and y-pipe from Brad.

Most likely in the b-pipe. however, I can do anything you like. :) Brad Bedell08-09-2006, 12:32 AMmmm yeah, asides from that we need a more updated registry. brads page hasn't been updated in ages and nodes other page is just blank

At the very bottom of the page, I provide instructions on how to be added. :D richw13108-09-2006, 06:28 AMMost likely in the b-pipe. however, I can do anything you like. :)

Thanks Brad. The b-pipe is fine.

I assume they will be the std screw on type. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
