View Full Version : Broken cable on manual window regulator

Señror Dos06-11-2012, 04:13 PMI have had my 87 AW11 NA for a week, and the cable snapped on the window regulator leaving the driver’s window stuck. It is the manual version. Toyota discontinued this part, so no luck with an OEM replacement. Has anyone been successful in trying to install a new wire? I have found aftermarket regulators, but they all are for the power window option only. I don't know if the regulator is the same for power and manual versions, so I don't know if this would work with my car. Any help would be most appreciated. Rusty Pancelode06-12-2012, 05:50 PMI haven't seen what our manual regulators look like, but I've had problems with cable operated regulators in the past...
Did the cable actually break? Or did a cable end fail?

If the cable broke, that sounds like a symptom of a more serious problem to me.

If the regulator failed on me, I'd try to come up with a used one...
Either from a junkyard or someone here may have one.

I tried to repair a failed regulator on a Grand Cherokee once, and ended up with an ok fix, but I never felt like it was solid enough.

Sorry I can't help more...
Somebody here's bound to have a good answer. Señror Dos06-13-2012, 08:42 PMI was lucky and found a replacement in the local self pull bone yard.

I will upload a pic if the busted one, the newer one, and newer one it installed later. Wont let me upload from the iphone. Señror Dos06-15-2012, 05:33 PMhere are some pics Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
