Qbrozen04-02-2012, 09:39 PMSOLD AW11-85MR205-02-2012, 05:51 PMHey i have a friend of mine very interested in the car, please PM me and i will give you his contact information! Thanks Qbrozen06-09-2012, 08:20 AMWow. This took me much longer than expected to get out for sale. This time it is for real. It is out in the front yard with a sign and everything. :)

The Eibachs, stock intake, and miata muffler are all installed. It is a much more civilized ride now.

Here is the craigs ad with a link to 34 high-res pics.
1985 Toyota MR2 5-spd only 95k miles! (http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/3066432860.html)

I'm flexible, of course, but probably not by a whole lot. Tough to find them around here with no rust and these miles. Thanks for looking. Qbrozen06-10-2012, 01:18 PMI should also mention I would possibly consider trades and could kick in cash for the right car. I'd be interested in a reliable 4- or 5-door economy car, MANUAL TRANSMISSION, 2002 or newer, with 120k miles or less for $5k or less. Think Protege 5, Protege, Scion, Sentra, Vibe, Versa, Rio5. Qbrozen06-14-2012, 09:18 AMbump.
nice car looking for a home. my other car now doesn't want to give up the garage space the mr2 previously occupied. :)

BTW, is there any way to change the price listed in the thread summary?

What did this one go for? Qbrozen07-10-2012, 09:14 AMI thought $3900 would be a pretty fair value on it. Wound up taking 3600 in the end just to be done with it.
There just isn't much demand for them. carcrazyguy07-10-2012, 10:23 PMWell actually there is.

You have to take into account that your car had a book value of around $4000 nearly 20 years ago. So in reality, the fact that they still bring what they do should show you just how much demand there still is, albeit by a niche group.

I can only figure that people have heard too many urban myths about how MR2's bring crazy money in certain parts of the country...or whatever it is that drives the people that ask two and three times what they actually sell for. But $3600 is right on the money for Ebay...which is without question, the highest yield for MKI selling. An 87-89 in the same condition / miles would have just cracked $4K. Qbrozen07-11-2012, 05:42 AMWell, let me put it a different way. Out of the last 6 cars I've sold, this was the nicest, yet took the longest and had the fewest bites. And those 6 were all just in the past few years and from the same physical address using the same advertising outlets. And 1 example being an '85 300z with 160k miles, wrecked carpets, and no AC compressor I sold for only a few hundred less about 20 months ago.

Is that some sort of scientific evidence? No, of course not. There ar many factors that go into the appeal of an advertised car. So this is just my opinion. When so few people inquire about a car, it leads me to believe it is not a high-demand item.

And thats not to say anything negative about the car. I think it is just sort of forgotten by most people. For some reason, a car like the 300z, for example, appealed to a larger audience. I have no idea why. Maybe it is the mid-engine layout that scares people off, maybe its just the rarity of the mr2, or maybe it was just the color of my example.

And forget about books on cars like this. We're talking relatively low-dollar items where one nonfunctioning electrical item can swing value 10%. It is all about condition, and no 2 cars this age are comparable, so a book is useless. jimbosr107-11-2012, 09:09 AM^^^^^well said! carcrazyguy07-11-2012, 12:57 PMWell, let me put it a different way. Out of the last 6 cars I've sold, this was the nicest, yet took the longest and had the fewest bites.

I really didn't want to say it...and I'm sure others are thinking it, but the color, year, and lack of a wing is the only reason it was not scarfed up immediately. Watch how long a properly priced red, white, or orange mica 87-89 version lasts for sale, for example. Those usually sell through this forum or CL, and never have to go to Ebay.

But because those do exist and are readily available, it makes selling older ones, particularly those in off colors much more difficult to sell, of course. You can't blame the buying public for this. Sheer condition alone is why it brought good money, even if slower than you expected. But take note that you still made decent money on it. Low mileage/original paint 1.2 versions rarely bring much more than that.

Fwiw, I've owned five Z32's (300ZX), and sold every last one of them myself. Not one of them moved as quickly as the slowest selling of my six MKI MR2's. But all six of them were either white or red, and all but two were 87+. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
