Calm down, Air Force, you're talking to fellow military here. I'm not being hostile. Ask any appraiser and they'll tell you an AW11 isn't worth more than $3500 even if it's in perfect condition with less than 50k on it. A mint 89 supercharged model would be worth around $5000.

As for my car, I didn't even buy mine to be a "gem". I bought it for the purpose of being a project car, which it definitely is. No need to go straight for the "lol your car suxxx" route. I know what I bought and why I bought it.

Good luck with the sale. jimbosr103-23-2012, 05:46 AMwhat my mr2 is worth is your opinion.you dont know my car.i have owned 3 mr2's sence 1986. and a forsale section is not a poll.on any forum its not a good idea to walk on anyone in the forsale forums.thanks for serving you country. Tessou03-23-2012, 08:57 AMI'm only trying to help you sell a car. What the car is worth in sentimental value and what it's worth in reality are two different things. You could buy a MKII for that kind of money, and the majority of folks would probably do exactly that.

The opinion of what it's worth to a potential buyer is the most important factor. That's the essence of selling a car: to make it an attractive option to people who happen to have money and also wish to spend it. As a potential buyer, I would immediately see the price tag on the MR2 you're selling, and walk away.

I've seen your listing on craigslist multiple times in the past month or so, and this is why it's still there. It's a great car in fantastic condition, but nobody in their right mind would pay that much money when they could get a better example of the same car for less out of pocket. Why do I know it's been there? My wife specifically brought it to my attention since she is looking for an MR2. She was excited about the details, and then she saw the price and pretty much immediately hit the "back" button on the browser.

That's a response you don't want. I understand that the car is great and that you take good care of it (as well as the others you own or owned in the past), but you need to do some market research and know what the car's street value is and adjust as necessary. jimbosr103-23-2012, 09:11 AMi haved owned a 92 mr2 and a early mr2 is much more fun to drive.yes i have had my mr2 on craigslist several times doesnt mean it isnt worth what i am asking.lets see how much money you paid and the condition of your car and how much money you will spend in the long run and how many miles you have on your car.you cannot compare apples to oranges.there are not many examples of outstanding mk1s out there with low miles. Tessou03-23-2012, 09:35 AMI've never compared my own MR2 to anybody else's because they are fundamentally not the same car. Mine's a project car in an infant stage, yours is a restore job. This is not at all a basis for an argument.

A buyer is not going to care how much money you put into it. If you dropped $10,000 into a Pinto, for instance, do you think anybody would pay up that much for it if you put that up for sale? It doesn't make sense. They only care about the condition of the car and how much the value of the car is against similar cars in the same market.

A 1986 MR2 N/A in great condition with low mileage is worth about $3000-$3500 to an appraiser worth his salt. Buyers that do their research will see that number and look out for models that are in this range (or less, depending). Anything higher, or significantly higher, is going to raise some eyebrows as to why the seller is highballing it so much. "Work was put into it" is not just cause. I was able to knock money off of the price of mine specifically because work was done to it. All it told me was that "the car has a history of problems". jimbosr103-23-2012, 09:44 AMthanks for your unwanted and useless opinion.you must of paid a tad too much for yours as you will not lets us know.please dont be a troll and invade others forsale items.no one on this and anyother forums wants the price police to put his or her 2 cents when they are selling there cars.i see you just bought your car in feb of this year so do your self a favor and listen and learn.i am sure every one on this forum is tired of the thread.ps if you read my ad mine is not a restore it is a surviver mr.asian.m203-23-2012, 10:09 AMMk1 price are going up due to some area are harder then other to track down. But, the owner do have the right to sale his car at his price. Our car are getting rare with each year. So, why not have the price go up? I've mentioned that I purchased mine for $1650 before. I didn't bring it up because, as I said, it's not valid to compare cars.

I don't see why you're putting up such a hostile defense to a legitimate comment. I've been nothing but courteous to you in spite of your abrasive behavior. I hope you at least try to maintain a dignified front when speaking with somebody willing to buy what you're selling.

You never know. I might show up to look at it. jimbosr103-23-2012, 10:20 AMplease do. will2303603-27-2012, 09:45 AMbought mine for 2000$ im pretty happy with it no so much a project car not so perfect either

I put more money into this thing than my 92 integra 98 civic and 88 celica jimbosr103-27-2012, 09:52 AMalot of mr2's in that area have a lot of rust to deal with, did your have any rust you had to deal with?my first one rusted in the wheel well rear where the mud flaps are.man i hope them eagles do something this year! will2303603-28-2012, 05:16 PMYea rust is not bad i have a small hole in my floor by the cluth pedal and your typical rust in the rear
mudflaps arent there no mounts due to rust and i need to get all my fenders redone bear310403-30-2012, 11:57 PMSomething is worth what someone will pay for it. Stop telling this guy what his car is worth. It's in pristine shape and not some bucket of shit neglected MR2.

If this car was local I would consider buying it for the price. I rather put out the money for a well loved car, instead of trying to bring back something from the dead.

MR2s are rare. Pristine MR2s are very very rare. Supply and demand. Hgaara04-02-2012, 04:22 PMI don't get why all the hostile comments towards Tessou. He's not trolling, he actually brings up valid points and is trying to help the OP. I mean, my brother sold a 91 RX7 for 2k. He sold it at a reasonable price considering the condition it was in (mainly the interior was gutted) instead of trying to get 8k out of it just cause its a "drift machine" Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc.
