AW11-85MR203-04-2012, 10:52 AMYUP, im finally turning my convertible into a much nicer removable hardtop! The best part is i can make the roof however i want! I am making it out of aluminum and maybe down the road have a carbon fiber one, I will post pictures of the progress and maybe even sell my convertible top frame to someone with all the hardware (can include rag top if you want it but its a bit shot and probably only good for a template) Any way i figured it would be an interesting project and that you guys would enjoy it.

I would love sketches or ideas for the roof that any of you might have! AW11-85MR203-04-2012, 10:54 AMI will upload the more recent pictures from the hardtop start later but i have to upload them from my phone and dont have time right now sorry. Hgaara03-04-2012, 03:41 PMIs that your S2000? The second to last picture reminded me of an S2000 and then I saw the next one haha.

Anyways, I'd worry about making that S2000 better. I didn't even know MK1's came in convertible form. Must be the rarest of them all. Bigbacon03-04-2012, 08:29 PMToyota made a few convertable versions Ithink just in the CA market but there were not many at all. mr2tim03-05-2012, 01:31 PMSaw a convertible here in Florida quite a long time ago, hardly recognized it.

Your side spoilers seem strange? for a 88/89.

Good luck with the hardtop project. Should be a real handfull.

Always admire mods, as there are so many "plain janes".

That a new OEM SC "crate" engined car now?

A Toyota Race Team since 1986 toyotaspeed9003-05-2012, 05:14 PMfor a removeable roof you might want to look into seeing how the removeable hardtop roofs work on the Miata.... you're essentially creating the same thing. jon11903-09-2012, 01:07 PMCool idea! Just to make it easier to remove install, you might consider making it in 2 pieces - 1 Targa roof panel (like a Del Sol) using the t-top attachment system (readily available from a part out...) and the rear piece from a t-top car with the 3 windows. If you can engineer the targa part to fold in half, you could even remove it and store it in the frunk or behind the passenger seat... Even if you simply make a removable top, if you were to use the roof panel from a t-top car, you could have a convertible AND a t-top car!!! Talk about unique...!!!

Good luck with this project and post some pics of your progress.

i love what you did with the roof scoops. where did you get em? AW11-85MR203-16-2012, 05:27 PMSorry its been so long, my phone has been bugging out, but finally it worked and to clear the air, My mom was the original owner and in 88 my dad made the car convertible (the picture of pictures lol) but now im converting it to a hardtop (removable) and i also did the supercharged swap from an imported motor :) (N/A trans "C-50" no problems!) anyway here is where im at!!! My 2 is an 85 N/A car stock, 1988 is when my dad converted it to a convertible. lol

thank you and so far it is a handfull haha

I hear that, thats mainly why i want to do this conversion :)

I wish it were new but sadly it is a used one with a documented 34000 miles on it and was JDM (until my carnk pulley broke off and now has a US spec on it) (bye bye 12psi and hello 8 :wtf:) donnyavery03-22-2012, 09:02 PMhey man its looking good are you going to use the bar stock as a frame and lay your glass over it or just use it to make a mold, oh and when you going to come check out the st185 it runs now anyway shoot me a text when you get a chance AW11-85MR203-23-2012, 02:24 AMhey man its looking good are you going to use the bar stock as a frame and lay your glass over it or just use it to make a mold, oh and when you going to come check out the st185 it runs now anyway shoot me a text when you get a chance

I'm actually making it out of aluminium, but I want to see it bad, so I will come by when mines done :D so I can show you.....I'm still loomking for a gt3076r though :( but I will get to that eventually.... Haha at least it runs now without issues haha donnyavery03-28-2012, 08:38 PMsorry about that i should have read you very first post last we talked i tough you said you were doing in cf donnyavery03-28-2012, 08:39 PMit looks good so far AW11-85MR203-31-2012, 09:54 PMThanks man, I just haven't been able to work on it lately because of class and stuff :( AW11-85MR204-16-2012, 07:48 PMHey guy, posting some more pictures i got from yesterday!

I decided to extend the rear fins of the original roof to the end of the engine lid to give the car a more low/longer look, similar to the older Ferrari's

i then decided to take the back window and make it smaller.....just cause and i like the slim window

and i finally wanted to make the back easy to access with out risk of pooping off so i reused factory bolt holes and i am going to use bolts with handles on them to fasten it :) but this is it so far hope you all enjoy and any input would be appreciated!!! atached2girls10-25-2013, 09:10 PMNice.
