View Full Version : Boot Is Locked

scottish tubby02-25-2012, 05:47 PMFor the first time today I used the key to get into the boot. It would only turn left so I turned it that way. It stayed locked and wouldn't turn the other way again. It won't open from the lever inside the car anymore.

Couple this with the fact that the car won't start since the battery drained even though it turns over and I'm just about ready to smash this car up.

Patience has gone. I'm going back to the previous owner on monday and if doesn't sort it I'm gonna explode.:banghead: AURMEND02-25-2012, 05:54 PMQuestion. What is the boot. scottish tubby02-25-2012, 06:12 PMQuestion. What is the boot.

The boot is the boot. The Rear Boot. How is that difficult?

The only thing I can think of is my key is the sub key and somehow the sub key can be used to set it to valet mode and I don't have the master key.

Stupid if that is the case. kakucaekz02-25-2012, 08:34 PMSorry about AURMEND, he doesn't know what people in the UK call a trunk. I doubt he knows what the North American equivalent of petrol or a bonnet is lol.

Anyways, if I remember correctly, you can check if your key is the master if it unlocks the glovebox and/or t-tops, if your car has them? I'm not too sure, but it's possible that you have the valet key. If you do, go to a Toyota dealership with your VIN and have a master key cut out for you. palos02-25-2012, 08:57 PMGo to your local locksmith and ask to compare the master and valet key blanks. Sometimes it is as simple as the master having a "v" cut along the length of the key. Then have a master cut from your valet. So much for the security of a valet key.

Another solution, peel aside the carpet such that you have access to the cable for the rear trunk. Pull the cable rather than the lever.

BTW: The rear trunk is the rear trunk, the space behind the engine (aka motor, thing that drinks all the gas, aka petrol, etc.) scottish tubby02-25-2012, 10:35 PMSorry about AURMEND, he doesn't know what people in the UK call a trunk. Brilliant mate. I'll go to the dealership first thing on monday. AURMEND02-25-2012, 10:56 PMYea I didn't know what boot was. If you would have said booty then I would know.

Also bring proof that's your car. Which one idk.
Might be the title or registration. scottish tubby02-26-2012, 12:30 AMYea I didn't know what boot was. If you would have said booty then I would know.

v5 registration document :) yeah I will thanks for reminding me :D Ashmen02-26-2012, 06:44 AMIf you only have a valet key, you might as well head to a dealership and have a master cut from the vin. Will probably be cheaper than the locksmith labor. scottish tubby02-27-2012, 08:58 AMClosest dealership to me is in the city nearly 40 miles away, I get there to order the key and they tell me that because the car is an import, they can't get me one.

Have to try a locksmiths now. :( AURMEND02-27-2012, 09:20 AMWow that sucks. What was their reason? scottish tubby02-27-2012, 09:35 AMWow that sucks. What was their reason?

They just said they can't because the car is a Jap import. :undecided Xuracing02-27-2012, 11:14 AMThey just said they can't because the car is a Jap import. :undecided

this is why the telephone was invented
So you dont have to drive 40 miles and find out you are SOL.

But honestly its cheaper just to buy a LOCK cylinder for the trunk with a matching key. I guarentee it.

matter of fact i have a spare one if you are interested. el_dubya02-27-2012, 11:41 AM[QUOTE=scottish *****;834751]The boot is the boot. The Rear Boot. How is that difficult?

Amazing description. Can you tell me what a bonnet is? scottish tubby02-27-2012, 12:36 PMthis is why the telephone was invented

Tbh I had to go into the city anyways. Nah I appreciate it but I'm gonna go with the locksmiths for now. :)

I could but I'd rather tell you to do one. Tessou02-27-2012, 12:54 PMToyota typically won't be able to get a new key made unless you have the key code plate that originally came with the car, or happen to know the code stamped on said plate.

A locksmith should be able to take care of this quick and cheap. I had the same problem, took it to Toyota, and they told me they couldn't do anything. I went two minutes down the street, told a locksmith I needed a new master key, and they drummed it up in 30 seconds. I paid all of $5. Toyota would have charged me about $25, but they needed the key code to make it. scottish tubby03-08-2012, 10:06 PMStill no solved this one. The locksmiths want to charge me £60 an hour and I'm just not up for paying that so the boot is staying locked for now. :( Everett03-08-2012, 10:42 PMPry bar and touchup paint!
