View Full Version : Shine Auto Project Greddy Replica Side Skirts (g spec)

NogaroMR202-17-2012, 11:30 PMI ordered a set of Shine auto project greddy replica skirts and all i can say -------------IS WOW! GREAT quality and fit out of the box
I do collision work and worked with plenty of kits and these are by far a really high quality piece
They are thin and very flexable and by being thin it doesnt let the door rub on the skirt kinda like most of the other brands/knockoffs
paid about 350 shipped off ebay.

very smooth edges and hardly any imperfections in the piece/. Minimal prep for paint. Couple areas need attention to be perfect like the top front corner of the scoop where it meets the door. Its a little rounded there and door has a sharper line. I just roughened up the area with 80 Grit and added some body filler and shaped better while i kept checking with the part fitted

thanks to some guys on here that posted some pics of them test fitted prior to paint . i went and bought them for me new 91T project AURMEND02-18-2012, 12:06 AMPics? Geezy3S-GTE02-18-2012, 12:52 AMwhere did you get it? i.e link? Spinfin02-18-2012, 08:48 AMNice.

I also have Shine Auto sides. Really good product I think. NogaroMR202-18-2012, 11:29 PMI actually found them on ebay . They list them as G- spec side skirts. Thier website doesnt show them i dont think attack vector02-21-2012, 01:52 PMHave to agree with the original poster. I just recieved my set of spec-G side skirts (Greddy replica) and my Spec-A lip spoiler and WOW. I've never seen parts this clean and robust. I'm not a body guy... at all... but a lot of my friends have put kits on their cars and I've seen lots of FRP kits get unboxed and all of the air-holes, chips, thin spots and blemishes simply don't exist on the SHINE products. Just amazing quality for the price. Heck... just amazing quality period. THICK side walls, solid mounting tabs and very even fiber distribution. And much as advertised they do seem to have the ability to twist and bend a bit more than FRP... but not as much as urethane.

I placed my order directly through SHINE (called them on the phone) All of their MR2 parts are still available, they're just redesigning the website so they're not up yet. They make everything by hand and it took 1 week for them to take my order, make the skirts and lip and then ship them to me. The owner said they do about one set of skirts, etc... for the MR2 a week and they don't actually make the product until you place the order.

Granted I haven't put them on the car yet... but at first glance I doubt there are going to be any major fittment issues. Very nice product. +1 for SHINE!!!!!

Here are some pics. I'll try to get more detailed ones later tonight:

Everett02-21-2012, 02:53 PMI have the front lip from them! It fits great and its that fiberglass/plastic so it has some flex to it! Everett02-21-2012, 02:58 PMCouple pics of mine before I actually bolted it on! serjey1502-22-2012, 01:18 AMHow much did it cost for the side skirts and lip? Is that a aeroware lip? Also is it fiber glass? attack vector02-22-2012, 01:57 PMIt is an Aeroware replica lip spoiler, they also make the SARD? (spec-C I think?) replica lip spoiler.

Both the greddy sides and the front lip were $610 shipped to my door.
When you consider that just the sides alone direct from Greddy are $750 (not shipped) GReddy (http://www.greddy.com/products/aerodynamics/aero/)
The SHINE products are a steal.

Yes it is technically FRP, but I suggest reading this exerpt from their website:
Materials | Shine Auto Project (http://www.shineautoproject.com/materials/)

"Shine Auto Project’s Hybrid FRP
FAQ: What is Hybrid FRP

Through careful selection of resins, surface coats, and fabrics, Shine has been able to develop a proprietary flexible fiberglass (FRP) formula. Our products behave very similar to oem bumpers (roughly 75% of oem flexibility), however, is still worked with and prepared to paint like general fiberglass products. We have essentially eliminated some of the cons of FRP products creating the ideal material of choice for the after-market aero enthusiast.

The Shine Hybrid FRP product is heavily inspired by Ings+1’s (a popular Japanese aero parts manufacturer) “Hybrid Aero” FRP products, hence given a similar name. What had caught our attention was the unfathomable flexibility of their fiberglass (FRP) aero products, since it was generally known (and still is) for fiberglass products to be stiff and brittle. Flexibility, hence durability, has always been a highly sought after characteristic/benefit consumers have needed in search of after-market exterior aero components. Particularly, bumpers, lips, and side skirts.

Shine has invested years of research and experimentations to offer an ideal product that meets and exceeds the demands and expectations of enthusiasts looking for after market aero components. We believe Shine’s current Hybrid FRP offering is at least equal to if not better than our initial inspiration for the formula. It is a very special, unique, and evolving formula that has taken tons of experimentations, tons of feedback from body shops, and tons of feedback from customers, to perfect. We are very confident in our formula and there are numerous satisfied customers across the globe who are enjoying the benefit our product offers.

After-market aero companies who are struggling to re-invent themselves after flooding the market with sub par fiberglass products for many years, are eager to rename their products “X (insert word or letter associated with durability/flexibility)” FRP. Any company can call or portray their products however they wish, but the truth of the matter is, not all manufacturers and their products are equal. A flexible fiberglass formula cannot be had overnight. As mentioned above, it takes years of research, experimentation, and feedback to create an ideal formula. It is very difficult to create such a formula and it is questionable if some of these companies have developed the formula or are just simply renaming the same standard fiberglass products they’ve been offering for years. Be weary and please do your research before purchasing. A good place to start is to look at testimonials and feedback on specific automotive forums for specific products (one good product from a manufacturer, does not necessarily equate to every product from the manufacturer being good.)" Spinfin02-22-2012, 11:40 PMNice.

I also have Shine Auto sides. Really good product I think.

Or is that to be added into their website at sometime. I would like to use them for for the parts I want attack vector02-27-2012, 04:18 PMIs there a catalog somewhere with what parts they offer for our 2's? I would just call them up. When I talked to them they said their MR2 stuff online is incomplete, and then they emailed me their full catalog. These guys actually have a good amount of product for our cars.

They should get that site updated. Lots of peeps interested in their product  ChaksQ02-27-2012, 10:01 PMGlad to hear the Shine Auto parts fit so well. I'm thinking about getting their A-Spec lip when I get around to painting my car. NogaroMR202-29-2012, 11:24 PMThe initial Fit of the skirts is good overall. Good overall compared to alot of aftermarket fiberglass parts. They require some edging and filler adding if you want them perfect like me :)
I had to edge them where it goes onto the fender near the door. I mounted up skirts and removed the door....shaved the edge with a dremel type Bit using fender as a guide......so its flush with the fender. then i taped off fender and spread filler in the space between skirt and fender. allowed to set up and harden a little then used a razor to cut it away from the fender. This makes the area near the fender sit flush rather than stand off the fender. After its built up a little shapping and some more adding can be done to be perfect. also doing that where the scoop area is. making it so thhere is no gap in the door jamb. i want them to look OEM .
i also added filler to the area right behind the door . the body line isnt as defined on the skirts . the corner of skirt is kinda rounded rather then square.
also i recommend cutting either a inch or 2 of the entire length on the bottom of the skirt to allow a jack or lift feet to access lift points without rubbing on skirt or crushing it. you can also just cut like a foot width more of where they give a small notch cut out. i can post pics of my project soon
. im getting a little crazy on the skirts but the final fit and appearance will look better . attack vector03-01-2012, 01:27 PMNogaroMR2, sounds great! Thanks for the info. I plan on taking the car to the body shop very soon so It would help to see the pics. Might help me give advice to the body shop guys for the install and finish. NogaroMR203-04-2012, 06:52 PMHere are some photos of the skirts in the works. Using regular bodyfiller, no need for fiberglass reinforced filler. its no nessessary for this type of thing. I had to first build up some filler from the backside so that once i squeezed the filler from the outside in it had something to cling to rather than plop in there and run to the bottom YEYOSMR203-21-2012, 04:46 PMsick! good info and follow up on install stay sidewayz04-09-2012, 03:39 PMgood thread lookin forward to final product 780GTS04-13-2012, 02:26 PMI'm gettin Shine Auto lip and side skirts I can just call them and order? :) rdmr204-15-2012, 07:35 AMI'm gettin Shine Auto lip and side skirts I can just call them and order? :)
