griffin202001-06-2012, 05:51 PMI am sure this has been covered previously, and I did a search, but was unable to find the answer.

I recently bought an 88 SC, and and window washer does not work.
It appears that the wipers also do not function at the speeds they should.
Intermittent does not work.
Low is extremely slow.
And high is not much faster.

Where should I begin? Switch, motor, or what?

Thanks, Tempast01-06-2012, 06:02 PMPM den621, he said he'd sell me one cheap but I don't really need it. SilverFire01-08-2012, 12:55 PMI'd have a look at the switch. It sounds to me like there's low voltage at the wiper motor and a bad/dirty switch is the most likely cause for that. griffin202001-09-2012, 01:24 PMAny suggestions on how to do that, other than removing the switch and hitting it with Contact Cleaner? muffinman01-09-2012, 01:27 PMCheck this out cause it sounds like it may be your problem. MKI MR2 Write-ups (http://padandwheels.com/mr2/wiperswitch/wiperswitch.html) SilverFire01-14-2012, 11:12 AMAny suggestions on how to do that, other than removing the switch and hitting it with Contact Cleaner?

Nope. You might want to try doing the write up while you've got it out and open if you do.

I was thinking you should just replace the switch. Might want to try bypassing it to confirm that it's the problem first. I'm too lazy to look up the diagram, but just jumper power to either the fast or slow wire and if that doesn't fix it the problem is at the motor. Could be a bad bearing on the motor too... palos01-14-2012, 11:29 AMI agree with MM insofar as your intermittent wipers aren't working. I've tried doing the solder repair only to have the intermittents fail shortly thereafter. Do your wipers return to the bottom of the windshield when you turn them off? I now consider this a "feature" and ignore it.

I'd remove the plastic cowl and look at the wiper linkage for debris or corrosion. Clean or lubricate as needed. The electrical connection to the motor should be visible and can be cleaned with sand paper or solvent. MR67110-22-2012, 09:49 PMI kind of have the same problem, my wiper blades only work on low and high. not on intermittent. they do not go all the way back down when you put them on mist. I will have to try it out and post my results. melkmaN210-23-2012, 02:30 PMSame problem here.

Somebody come help me fix it!! muffinman10-23-2012, 02:32 PMSame problem here.

Somebody come help me fix it!!

Follow the write-up or replace the switch. melkmaN210-23-2012, 08:34 PMI would but I have no soldering skillz muffinman10-23-2012, 11:38 PMI would but I have no soldering skillz

It's not hard at all. Then your option may just be to buy another one. I recently noticed that mine is doing the same thing so I may try the solder trick. If not I have a few spares. :D Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
