q-authority01-05-2012, 04:28 PMSOLD: Alpine 3DA-7987 in-dash cd changer-tuner (late 90's classic)

The unit is is in excellent condition, and works flawlessly. It comes with everything pictured below: remote control w/holder (these were never used and are in new condition), extra battery for remote, 2 x cd magazines, owners manual, installation manual, warranty card (lol), consumer comment card, and even an Alpine CD changer advertisement pamphlet (not pictured) that came with it. Also comes with the all important removable-face carrying case that I forgot to pull out of the glove compartment in time for the pics (it is also in excellent condition).

Background: I bought this from Dow Stereo (San Diego) in the very late '90's, with a 5 year extended warranty. A few months before the warranty was to expire I noticed a slight issue with the disc changer, and took it in for inspection/repair. Fortunately, neither Dow, nor any other local repair services at that time, were allowed to work on this type of model, and it was sent directly to Alpine for inspection/repair.
Apparently Alpine originally used a plastic spindle, of some sort, for the cd changer mechanism, and this was replaced with a newly revised metal version. The unit has been installed in the same car ever since, and has performed flawlessly.
What is really interesting is that it actually sounded a bit better when it was returned (slightly louder and cleaner), so I assume that they must have also done some sort of circuit check/recalibration while they had it, which improved upon the calibration done at the factory. That was the best money ever spent on a warranty extension, lol.

The only reason this is being sold is that I am selling the car it was installed in, and did not want it wasted on an owner that would not appreciate it.

FYI: The majority of parts are still available for this unit, via sites such as the following: Consumer Electronic Parts and Accessories at PacParts, Inc.
