will.foy12-02-2011, 08:01 AMwell I'm not new to the forum i lurk a lot though and gather ideas, a lot of you know my father (Foygroup) and if you don't know his set up i will provide the link to it at the bottom of this. so let me tell you all a story. at 18 years old i was given my first MR2 by my dad who is a huge MR2 fanatic, i immediately fell in love with the car, it needed a lot of love. A LOT OF LOVE, unfortunately i wasn't in a financial situation for me to provide any love. well after high school i decided that i was going to go to college and i took the car too i drove it everywhere a lot of people liked it and i got plenty of good feedback and had so many ideas but never had the money to make it all come true, well about half way through college i just got sick of it all and i had to do something crazy i had to do something unexpected and radical and shake up my what felt like a stale life, i joined the army. Right now as i write this I'm overseas in Kuwait, i love what i do and id never change that. But i digress, while i was in basic training my car was home..... my sister decided to take it to school one day and slid it off the road and destroyed it, at the time i was in week 8 of basic training, i had pneumonia and i was in the hospital, I've never been so sick and miserable in my life and even in the hospital i had Drill Sergeants in my face. so about the 3rd day i was in the hospital, wondering if i would ever get over this sickness and if i would graduate basic training on time feeling really down in the dumps the DS walks in my room and throws this thick letter at me and walks away. i pick it up, its from my dad, open it, inside was 2 envelopes one said " READ LETTER FIRST" the one that said that felt thick because there were pictures inside, so of course i wanted to see the pictures and not read the letter first, so i open it, and all the sudden i felt death come over me, my face turned pale white as i see these pictures of my destroyed car that i loved so much, i scramble and read the letter and find out the story, my sister was okay not even a scratch which is great but i was crushed, everything bad that could of happened did happen, ill never forget basic training. Fortunately i graduated basic training with my platoon on time and i made it to AIT, as soon as i left AIT i got orders to go to Kuwait and here i am now, while overseas I've had my dad on the look out for a new deuce, and now we have the rebirth.....

that is whats on the list of things to do for now, but there will be more once i get hands on with the car and get more inspiration. your feed back will be much appreciated and i hope you all enjoyed my story......

I'm glad that its still driving on and being put to good use! i do miss that car though but I'm pretty excited to hit R&R in march and jump into the new one! empgen312-02-2011, 07:45 PMbro your dad is a living legend on this forum every problem i had with my swap he has showed nothing but the up most patience always answering what ever question i had and always sending links and pics to help me out. i to dreamed of an mr2 all my life thinking it was impossible to get one especially being a kid coming from the ghetto in brooklyn ny once i moved to florida i kept my dreams alive and here 10 years later im on my third mr2 almost done with a gen 3 swap and your dad and cjmr2 walked me all the way threw i have not posted it but i call my build the true 2 just like every body on here alot of heart and alot of patience went in to this true 2 and i hope one day i can do the same for someone else on here what your dad did for me .so i am honored to leave a reponse on your post.the white is awsome i had a pearl white mr2 . but that orange is awsome, rare and unique..and sexy as hell lol so u already know which one i would choose and congrats makeing it threw basic training. hope to see more of ya. About the new Toy, keep her white. Your projected mod list looks good, i would add a front lip, open side vents, color match side moldings and 94+ tails. I have a white turbo, my first white car ever, and I love how it's "immune" to sunlight. In the past I had dark cars and junk would bake on it and I have to say I gained a new appreciation for white.

It sounds like you have a great dad and a solid plan, when you return home. The only advise i have is stay the hell away from EMS. Or if your completely set on doing that you might want to order it now and it might get delivered by the time you get back. Stay safe and return home. I don't know if he is into carbon fiber or anything like that, but definetly some rare parts like mine that will make it a little more special.

I have an extra 94 wing he is going to put on inplace of the 3 piece 91 wing. Beyond that we will make more plans of the next few months so the car can be ready for him when he gets here.

With some bolt-ons he could probably get the power he wants without hitting the whp I'm at. but like I said it's up to him. We will see, theres a pretty big pay difference when i get back to the states, ill be saying bye bye to extra pay and tax free paychecks so ill just be getting paid regular E3 pay where as now im making E5 pay. i will have to probably keep the stock engine for now, and the majority of the work i do on the car will probably have to be done when im on leave. Its all up in the air right now, i haven't been on a state side duty station before, i went straight from my AIT to the desert, so i don't know what to exprect from a state side duty station. And i might come up on an assignment for Japan, id be leaving Kuwait and going straight to Japan for 2 years, im sure finding an engine there will be no problem at all. I wont know where im going for another month or so. Tomorrow marks my 6th month here in Kuwait, orders for duty stations usually get cut for us at 8 or 9 months. so we will see, advise on what you all think i should do with the car would be appreciated. my goal is to make this car Clean, my dad and i agree on the notion "if your gonna do something spend the money and do it right" im not gonna ghetto rig this car, if i have to save for a few months just to buy one part thats what im gonna do. My dad has one of the more perfect bits of american restored iron and you just land up pissed off when other cars chip the paint when the paint is worth more than most cars on the road, or there is a flake missing the $4000 wheels. This is deffinetly going to be my dailey driver. Even with the old orange 2 (RIP) everytime i looked at it i had a big evil grin on my face, sometimes i would come up with a stupid excuse just to drive it somewhere, id say i was going to the store and be back 45 minutes later just because i wanted to drive around aimlessly. No matter what i do to this car i know i will be happy, i just love the look and the feel of the car, but its spoiled me, i drive other peoples cars or military vehicles and im just bored... bored to the point i could fall asleep. but i wont be pouring in thousands of dollars into the car, i want to get it a respectable amout of horse power and a very clean look to it. And i think i will be happy, im not looking to make it a sound barrier breaking death matchine like my dads because i know i will get into to much trouble ive already been kicked off 1 insurrance company and have had my license suspended ahaha so like i said i just want a nice respectable looking car with a decent amount of a$$ in the back.:D Foygroup12-05-2011, 08:24 AMOh yes, good times going to court with you... Im thinking a respectable 300HP will be doable for me, me and my dad are formulating plans and making lists of parts and such so we will see, the car is staying white though, i came to the conclusion that there is no point in painting the car when the paint is relativly new, and i can use that money under the hood. Good choice, you'll have more fun with a better performing car than one where you have to be cautious about fresh new paint. It might not be a bad idea down the road when you're done majority of your modifications and have barely anything left to do.
