Ricksmr211-07-2011, 12:44 PM1985 Toyota MR2 -- Great fun and 30+ mpg too, what more can you ask for.
This is exactly what you want with high gas prices. The car runs and drives very nicely. I purchased this car from a friend who had it since 2004. I was planning to keep it and used it rather than my gas guzzling truck and took care of any maintenance item i could think of. You can see below all the maintenance I have done to it while I've had it. I also have all the maintenance records since 2004 including the Transmission rebuild and Clutch replacement. The interior is in excellent condition, no tears or holes or cracks in the dash. Everything works, nice cold AC. Very nice paint. Very clean car. Still even has sunroof cover, belly pans and excellent rear window spoiler, these are generally lost/removed/damaged by now. I also have the original rims with good tires and factory side skirts (in red) available. I have lots more photos I can send you. It does have some of the typical rust in front of the rear wheels under the triangular rubber flares. My "honey-do list" is long overdue and I'm getting pressure to get rid of some toys. Please call with questions or to make an offer.

The car may be the original color, but I doubt it is the original paint. The front fenders and trunk lid are missing the VIN stickers. MR2PDM11-09-2011, 02:15 PMuhm... I don't think they had VIN stickers in 1985. 1986 I believe was the first year for this. Also, unless the panels were replaced, they would just paint right over the stickers assuming a poor job or lack of intelligence. jimbosr111-09-2011, 05:11 PM+1 on the vin stickers,87 and up.85 and 86 have none.being a 86 it had a 1 stage paint job, unless its been sitting in a garage its been repainted.one stage paint would rub off just waxing it. palos11-09-2011, 11:55 PMI'll be looking at an '86 later this week. I wasn't aware that the earlier years may not have the VIN stickers. Ricksmr211-10-2011, 12:45 PMThanks for the comments. I agree with the VIN stickers on the 87+, I have noticed this with other vehicles. Very observent guys, good job. It is a single stage paint (no clear coat) when waxing or buffing you get red on your pads. Because the interior is not faded much I would say it has been garaged a lot of it's life, but I can not confirm that. My buddy always had it garaged and it usually is in my garage, but with 4 cars some take turns.

I did not mention a bunch of the smaller items I took care off too. I installed a new shift boot, new pedal covers, an actual cup holder (no more holding your drink between your legs), new E-brake switch, oil cooler hoses, all new filters and fluids and probably more I can’t think of at the moment. I’d really like to see this car so I do not have to store it over the winter. lsgheero11-10-2011, 02:36 PMIt could be a re-paint, but it has the original factory extra option decals (hood and side striping). so unless his paint shop took great care to cover those perfectly they would have paint on them or been painted over entirely.
