Butters11-03-2011, 12:57 AMWell ive been hiding and dopping hints at this build for 2 years... and i guess its finally time to start this thread. There shall be lots of pictures and ill upload videols later.. but for now here goes:

Bought the car like this: 91 N/A 5s, ill fitting border kit, flea-bay intake, one speaker, cheap headunit, Aquamarine Pearl (which i hated sorry guys)

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/15836_739838640545_27408305_42764191_4560366_n.jpg

Well i drove the car for 2 years like this, did basica maintenance and drove the hell out of it. Motor grenaded itself 100 miles from home, limped back on 2 cylinders... Decided to rebuild entire car.

The grey color is quite dark but these pics were taken with my phone so it makes it look darker. There is a fair amount of orange peel in the paint which i will be sanding and buffing out this weekend.

Oh i also nabbed these bad boys from DB8's mechanic, waiting for them to arrive:

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/291781_10100420716617595_27408305_50566084_1951533 724_n.jpg

The thing is i have Performed every bit of labor myself, all the work has been done by my minus actually wiring the gen3 up which i left to Hux Racing.

Body work, shaving the wing, all of the installs of radio, gauges, wiring, body mods, suspension, engine components, motor swap itself, prepping, priming, sanding, and painting was done by me alone. no big group of friends or family.

Theres a number of mods i havent pictures such as the Manual Boost Controller, Mr2 floor mats, t-tsop shades, ATS 3" Downpipe, ATS axles w/ race cages, strobe lights for fun, the amp in the frunk. ect.

During the middle of this build i lost the end of my right index finger in an accident at work which slowed down the build considerable as i couldnt really use my main hand. so i wrenched left handed. The car put down 270 wheel hp @6k and 245 tq at 5k at Hux racings Dynojet.

Overall its been a 2 years 16 grand build that was worth the wait in every way. Uo next is poly motor mounts, and a ACT extreme clutch (as mine is slipping now curses), and hopefully a borg warner 252 turbo kit. but for now shes a complete beast, gets looks everywhere, questions all the time compliments and its a absolute blast to drive.

I will have videos up asap. RePete11-03-2011, 01:18 AMWow, simply wow...thanks for sharing Butters.

I had a smile on my face reading every word leading to the crescendo at the climax - like a storybook ending (sniff). Don't know how long you'll keep it like that but love that wingless look! Determination shows here, what with wrenching left handed and all!

Good job, you should be proud of the transformation. ridevryday11-03-2011, 01:52 AMawesome to see so much hard work.
great work man. im extremly jealous.
love the self mixed color too. awesome job man! Butters11-03-2011, 02:08 AMThanks repete, I owe you for the final decision on the wheels.and.tires for the advice you gave me at the time. I'm definitely keeping the wingless look. I debated s whale tail drift wing but I'm way to fond of the wingless look.

Ride I appreciate the comments. It was a very long build. The gen3 was my unicorn. Eberytime I would have the money is find some other rare part I just had to have like the wheels or any of my trd parts or coilovers or brakes. The motor actually came last... Now if those seats would jist get here LeePeyton11-03-2011, 05:45 AMWow! Just effin' WOW!
So that's what you have been sitting on all his time. She turned our really good man. Wish I could be so damn patient. lol Looking freaking awesome buddy.

P.S. Sorry to hear about your finger man. That sucks. J Aaron11-03-2011, 06:10 AMThat is quite impressive Butters, even without your loss. Fantastic build up! This thread has def re-inspired me to keep on keeping on with my project. Thanks for sharing! Butters11-03-2011, 08:36 AMThanks again everyone. My friends and family will attest that i was so grumpy and inpatient waiting for this to be finished. It was worth the wait the first time I heard it crank up at hux racings shop.

And its all good about my finger lol I got a decent insurance settlement that paid for my motor Haha LeePeyton11-03-2011, 08:41 AMDeff an inspiration for me too. I think a few too many stickers, but your whole car is so ultimately tastefully done. Your attention to detail would make most magazine cars blush. Personally I'm back to the saving game so I can save up for an AEM stand alone and what ever might be needed during the install. Butters11-03-2011, 08:47 AMI think my sticker count on the outside is 6. I kept them all small and I'm going to remove st least one that i don't like. I tried to keep it to a minimum yet give it enough if s red ckntrast to go with the lugnuts lol

I appreciate the feedback buddy I've always wondered if it was to much or to little. dragraceman2111-03-2011, 08:47 AMvery impressive that you did all that yourself, car looks great. However I dont care for the "wingless" look, the car looks unbalanced IMO. STLMR2na11-03-2011, 08:59 AMnice!!!!!. not to hate but it looks like you could have sanded a little more. the paint seems sliiiiiightly orange peel, looks like your missing that mirrorish shine. Butters11-03-2011, 09:19 AMThanks again. Value yalls opinion.

Stl go back and reread lol, I stated theres a lot if orange peel that needs to be sanded and buffed. Prep work wasn't the issue. I'm a prep guy at a paint and body shop. However this was my first exoerisnce painting. I kind of winged it truth be told. Oh well learn by doing and.rather experiment on my own car lol but thanks for the feedback.

Wetsand anf buff this weekend pics soon.

Thanks again everyone, makes it worth while. STLMR2na11-03-2011, 09:23 AMThanks again. Value yalls opinion.

O I C
but besides that, car real real good. z Ice Dragon z11-03-2011, 10:14 AMGreat read. Thanks for sharing. I wish I had the time and money that you have. I've only got as far as pulling the motor, and redoing some of the inteiror, and I've had mine 15 months. It's good to see that you took your time with it though, and had the patience to ensure that I was good before rushing into getting it done.

It looks great from start to finish Butters. Congrats man. LeePeyton11-03-2011, 10:21 AMHell submit that bitch to Super Street and get you a spread. :D z Ice Dragon z11-03-2011, 10:22 AM+1 Butters11-03-2011, 10:47 AMAgain thanks.

And Stl no worried man I really do appreciate the feedback. I'm horridly unhappy with the orange peel but glad I can say I did it myself. It'll be fixed though.

Timewise was 2 years. I have a truck I drove during that time. I don't make buttloads of money quite the opposite, I sold all the old parts I took off the car, sold stuff I had around the house, used insurance settlement money and just put back money every pay check. Did side work for friends to earn cash.

I'm honestly wanting to submit it to s3 magazine and hope for a cover :) is be happy with a feature but why not shoot for the cover Haha.

I'll be honest guys its weird not having a long list of stuff to buy for this anymore. I can count what else I want on one hand and none are really necissary besides motor mounts and clutch.

I'm so very happy that it came out like I had hoped and again appreciate all the feedback good or bad. I took a lot of inspiration from builds on here like the other gen3 builds and.soent countless hours in the post your Mr2 thread. WrenchswingeR11-03-2011, 01:24 PMwow, nice build. props for doing it all yourself, i did the same thing. From towing it away to engine swap to paint and bodywork and interior. I can see the hard work, orange peel can be fixed. I think u should stay away from the whale tail wing, a small Toms lip spoiler would set u off into the stratosphere bro kakucaekz11-03-2011, 03:52 PMAmazing build, real clean car. I was wondering how those TRD wheels would look, and they're sweet. Although I think a 98 spec wing would look nice on there, keeping her wingless is a nice choice with the lip and skirts you have on. Nice job :D mr311-03-2011, 04:04 PMLooks great. Nice job. project.sth11-03-2011, 04:51 PMNice build ! Really love the TRD wheels it fit perfectly to your car. Hope the paint will be ok after the wet-sanding ! Maruki-kun11-03-2011, 05:06 PMjust about the same colors I'm shooting for on mine except maybe a little lighter on the grey. more like a Graphite Grey Metallic or something. but now I have an idea of what it'll look like.

http://www.bjmotors.biz/images/inventory/2009ViperGraphite_0045/large_01.jpg Butters11-03-2011, 11:28 PMthanks everyone!

i put 3 coats of clear on so i should have plenty to sand and buff.. iff not i can always resand and reclear (i really dont want to do that though... good thing is i figured out what i did wrong and my subsequent painting projects today have come out good).

Maruki- The grey is House of Kolor Gallaxy Grey. It was actually alot lighter than on the car, almost silver. i didnt like it at all... i had bought an extra quart of black so i would have extra to mix incase i didnt like it. I played with a number of different ratios of grey and black until i came up with this color i am VERY happy with it.

I am SO ready for those seats to come in.

Oh i ordered those Poly Motor Mounts rocklizzard9111-05-2011, 12:15 AMbutters!! you finally posted it!!
im so proud!

looks awesome!! im so jelly!
i need another mr2!

ill comment more when i have time to read its entirety! Butters11-05-2011, 03:32 PMThank you sir!!!! I'm wet sanding and buffing this Ho as we speak :) Butters11-08-2011, 01:49 AMdid a little bit of buff work before the local import faceoff show this weekend:

And I never noticed you converted the wiper to a single until now o_O Butters11-08-2011, 02:06 AMhaha its not a conversion.. someone just threw away my other wiper arm so im just rocking a single lol i kinda like it. ill prolly keep it that way.

and thank you :) mr.asian.m211-08-2011, 08:58 AMdamn.. how did i miss this thread? your project turn out really well butters. i am missing all the fun watching your work. the paint came out pretty good too. thanks for sharing. arber021411-08-2011, 09:54 AMlooks very very pretty, i want to hump her. STLMR2na11-08-2011, 11:05 AMamazing.
question, what did you do about the radiator? just used the same one after the swap? Foygroup11-08-2011, 12:46 PMOMG, we started about the same time. My threads are now old and archived. You finally posted pics of what you have been hiding. I knew you were worki g on it and we were on the same GBs a few times like the Dominator. I was ready to lump you in with Otech for puring money into a garage queen.

Finally some pics. Your interior looks great. You know I am gonna love your shifter and the head unit, but the TRD steering wheel just gives it that final touch. Very nice. I am waiti g for DB8 to post a set of seats to match my build as well. Nice job on the interior. Have you also changed out the dash lights to match?

The GEN3 looks great. Not too much at all. I like all the blue accents for the motor and interior. How much boost are you running? With that much whp I understand why the stock clutch is slipping. I have the BW256 turbo, there was no difference in price for the BW252. I just wanted a little more range. The turbo really kicks in nicely. I'm running 20psi myself.

The wheels look amazing. Repete did a good job pointing you in the right direction. They go very well with your paint choice. I'm not a fan of wingless and I have purchased a 98 wing for mine, but I am still waiting on parts before I paint.

Overall the car looks great and runs great. Hopefully it won't be another 2 years before we see the vids.... Nice job Butters. LeePeyton11-08-2011, 02:54 PMOh i ordered those Poly Motor Mounts

Get the kirks? Butters11-08-2011, 03:34 PMThanks everyone :)

Stlmr2 I used the factory n/a radiator. I have yet to have an issue with my temps. I have thought about going eith a mishimoto just for the hell of it but honestly I don't see the point other than I want to

Foy I wad wondering when you would stumble on this lol. I appreciate it buddy, I to was worried it was turning into a garage queen. I wasnt a fun person to be around Hahaha. I'm running 17 Psi on the ct20b. I hate that the dang clutch is slipping. Got laid off my job yesterday so I'm starting to paint some.friends cars and stuff on the side to make some cash for now for the clutch. I csnt wait till my trd seats show up. It's killing me Haha.

And I promise the video is already in the works lol

Lee I actually went with the full polys from twos.r us. I'll get them installed today I hope. Butters11-08-2011, 03:36 PMAlso yes the dash lights have been chsnged to super white leds Foygroup11-08-2011, 07:15 PMWasn't sure if you would go blue on the dash lights. I had the super whites for a while but they looked too blue for me so I switched to red. Speaking of which, if your theme is blue and grey, why do you have red wheel lugs?

I have been pretty busy so not online much. Been working on a new book that we just finished the final review this week in Tampa. It is at the publishers now, so I am free to browse the Internet all day.

How do you like the K-Sports and the big brakes? I was looking into both for my car. Butters11-08-2011, 08:26 PMThe blue accent theme was actually only for the engine bay. It was more of a case of I changed my mind to lste. I had already bought a number of blue engine bay accents... then i bought the trd wheels and the trd sport logo was red.. so i went with red livable to match that and the trd sport seats are red as well.

So its sorta miss matched. I sometime regret it but in the end im ok with it lol I could always go back and replwxe it all in the engine bay lol Foygroup11-08-2011, 10:37 PMOh, I figured with all the blue dash parts you were going blue all over.

What about the Ksports and big brakes? Butters11-09-2011, 01:30 AMI love them both. The brakes are flat out beasts. And i love the coilovers. On the softest setting they ride great. Responsive, yet comfortable. Highly recommend them. My ONLY complaint.is.o dont like that the sway bar link mount on the coilover is on the threaded part... Which I understand why its like that so you can adjust it but at first I was having an issue of the mount rotating and the sway bar kind of flipping back and when it would do so itd pull my genders down into the tires. its hard to explain lol. I got.of set and figured out now. Perfect. Foygroup11-09-2011, 07:08 AMWow I love trying to interpret autocorrect.

But thanks, I get what you're saying. I LOLed when you posted that the K-Sports pull your genders down. Haha... VTsuckah13111-09-2011, 10:49 AMHahaha "pull my genders down". Classic.

Anyways, the car looks great and very well thought out. Nice job Butters. Butters11-09-2011, 10:47 PMI swear I cannot type on this Damn Android phone. Lulz.

Well i installed my full poly mounts today. Was a complete bitch to install. A lot more vibration but considering the entire front mounting bolt was missing I'm ok with it lol. A lot.more responsive. Foygroup11-10-2011, 01:45 PMI have the full Polly mounts myself. Scared the crap out of me at first; shook the entire car, but after a month or so, they loosen up and it's all good. ProjekIssei11-15-2011, 01:48 AMAwesome work man. Glad you restored another deuce! Paint looks great for your first time as well hahah kakucaekz11-16-2011, 03:52 AMDid you get your seats yet? I wanna see how they look installed in the car. Some more interior pics would be nice too (I'm trying to steal, er, get inspiration for mine :]) Butters11-16-2011, 11:09 AMNope seats still aren't here. Its driving me insane lol I'm about to change out my shift knob as well soon. Madlife11-16-2011, 08:40 PMAwesome. When you say "ill fitting" border kit, hopefully you meant the skirts. The front bumper looks pretty damn good compared to most in the picture. Butters11-16-2011, 09:21 PMThe sides were terrible. The front was ok but where the bumper met the hood it was wavy. Drove me insane Butters12-14-2011, 07:44 PMUpdate: Seats are here and IN

0-100 run | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10100585689256105) kakucaekz01-05-2012, 06:10 PMAwesome video, I want a GoPro sooo bad. Was that a blow off valve I heard, or am I mistaking it for something else? wagonis01-05-2012, 06:25 PMHOW in gods name have I missed this thread? Awesome work Butters! Butters01-05-2012, 06:37 PMIt's the factory recirc valve that's just releasing to atmosphere. I love the goprovits worth every penny.

Thanks wagonis!! Foygroup01-05-2012, 06:55 PMNice Vid Butters. I am using the OEM BOV as well, IMO it has the best sound and best funtionality. kakucaekz01-05-2012, 07:03 PMHow do you make it vent to atmosphere, just pull off the hose that leads back to the intake? Foygroup01-05-2012, 07:21 PMYes, that is exactly it. I put a breather filter on it just to make it look nice too. kakucaekz01-05-2012, 07:31 PMThanks Bill, guess what I'm doing as soon as I visit my 2 again >:] Foygroup01-05-2012, 10:19 PMAs long as you have a GEN3, you won't notice a major change in the car by disconnecting the tube. The GEN3 uses MAP not MAF. If you have a GEN2, the ECU will not be able to compensate for the loss of airflow and will run rich for a few seconds every time the BOV releases the pressure. Your car will run rough and possible stall. kakucaekz01-05-2012, 11:27 PMOK then, guess what I'm NOT doing lol. rat2mr201-05-2012, 11:51 PMim going to be painting both my 2s. you got great results your self from what i see. any major tips? Foygroup01-06-2012, 02:04 PMOK then, guess what I'm NOT doing lol.

LOL mr2123401-06-2012, 02:11 PMLike from here on out every time I get paid I'm buying somthing for my car nice job. The things I would do for thos seats! z Ice Dragon z01-10-2012, 05:01 PMYou mean besides not buy things for your car, and save money to buy them? dropinthatclutch01-12-2012, 10:38 PMhey man that is a great color what kind of paint is it exactly? Butters01-12-2012, 11:25 PMRat I'll walk u threw it just pm me.

Drop in - its my own One off color I mixed myself. It's a combination of a few different ratios of house of kolor paint. 3azyy8901-13-2012, 02:46 AMWhere u get the engine from? kakucaekz01-13-2012, 02:54 AMI'm gonna take a wild guess and say.. EMSpowered. 3azyy8901-13-2012, 03:06 AMDid you put in any new gaskets or other maintence? Butters04-25-2012, 11:09 PM3az i realize this is months late but i just saw your reply.
