Max S-G09-26-2011, 11:23 PMA few days ago I was cleaning my Two when I noticed how much debris was trapped inside the wiper cowl mesh. I wanted to get all of it out but found that it was nearly impossible to remove the filth without pulling off the mesh.

So i did. And I'm leaving it off. I am now in the process of replacing the mesh with aluminum sheet metal.

I had a friend who has a shop class cut rough templates out of tin so I could size them and finalize the profile for a perfect fit.

The attached thumbnails are the tin templates. I plan on making the aluminum pieces later this week.

Anyways I'd like to know what people think about this idea/process.

Max RuggishBone09-26-2011, 11:45 PMi think its there for your ac to get air from the outside eckoman_pdx09-27-2011, 03:56 AMYeah, the car's climate control system pulls in the fresh air from the outside through there. Fully blocking that off will kind of limit your fresh outside air coming into the car, not a terribly great idea.

While I applaud your idea to attempt to improve the look of the wiper cowl (it is a dated looking eyesore, I admit), fully blocking off the vents will block off the ports fresh outside air comes in through. Max S-G09-27-2011, 07:42 AMI guess that I will be cutting some slots into the metal when it's fitted. Thanks for the heads up.

I'd still attach some kind of mesh to the backside of the slots you cut in the metal, to help keep pine needles and other debris out. WrenchswingeR10-03-2011, 03:38 PMIf u just cut open slots in the plate it will allow dirt debris sticks rocks etc into the system. They will make their way into the blower motor and cause damage or worse shoot them out thru the vents into your eye. Better off putting the mesh back..use compressed air to blow the junk out. xmr2010-07-2011, 07:46 PMwould u not be better off fitting mesh under the stock cowl? tksmr210-07-2011, 09:36 PMYea.. I used my compressor to blow out all of that junk after I took the wiper cowl off my 93t.. Then, I refinished it, and put it back on my car. Max S-G10-11-2011, 09:17 PMYea.. I should have done that before I tore mine out. Eastcoastmod10-12-2011, 05:49 PMWorse yet...the junk could jam the motor causing it to over heat or catch fire....no more mr2. VTsuckah13110-13-2011, 05:19 PMJust cutting slots into the aluminum would likely cause your ac blower motor to over heat/fail due to being strained due to air restriction. I strongly advise against installing the aluminum and convert it back to the nonrestrictive OEM mesh. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc.
