carlosq09-02-2011, 05:35 PMhello guys
im from Costa Rica, so excuse my english and my writing, NEED HELP!!!
i race in my country in semi profesional championship. need information of how to reduce weight in the chassis of aw11 86. the typical is donne:fiberglass doors, luggage compartments ,complete dissasembly of the cabin, BUT can i cut parts of the floor?of the chassis itself, without loss of rigidity?? any one have experience o that??? thanks a lot:wtf: mvb196609-24-2011, 05:03 AMHi Don't cut the floor as it will destroy the structural integraty and handeling of the car!

I see you have fiber glass doors where did you get them I have been looking for some for my track car too could you tell me where you got them and the cost I'm in Perth Australia

Cheers Mike ebarcus01-23-2012, 02:06 PMguy wants light weight chassis, we all get a link to fiberglass doors :P

Id like to know about "taking the weight out" too! Hgaara03-01-2012, 05:16 PMCarbon fiber hood, and carbon fiber trunk. Remove everything related to AC cooling. Light weight rims. Remove the entire interior leaving only your seat and steering column.

Those are a few I can think of. toyotaspeed9003-02-2012, 04:37 PMthe structural integrity will depend on if you have a roll-cage or not. If you have a cage that's properly built into the car then cut away... the cage will hold the structure and rigidity of the car.

Swap the glass for Lexan. get a smaller fuel tank and put it and the battery where the passenger seat was (can help with balance of the car as well). The front and rear bumper supports are crazy heavy - you can relatively easily remove the bumpers in their entirety... if you still want the shells then you might have to find a way to keep them in place. kenny.bacon06-06-2012, 10:34 PMaccidently posted twice see below kenny.bacon06-06-2012, 10:36 PMsince you have fiberglass doors this isn't as much directed to you but something I've done is get some thin aluminum sheet metal, cut out the inner door skin and door reinforcements, rivet the aluminum sheet metal in for safety so you don't cut yourself.. you'd be surprised at the weight you can pull out of the electric window regulators and the reinforcements. door will be a lot noisier but weight will be saved and the reinforcements are only for the door. replace the glass with lexan as noted by toyotaspeed90 or get a safety net. you can get the lexan in sheets at most larger hardware stores.
