cHiK0ae10108-24-2011, 11:53 PMhey guys new to the forums, recently brought a 91 mr2 that had a blown 3sgte and turned out to be many other issues as well.so far its been 2months that ive had it and about 3weeks that ive been driving it around breaking in the miles. Im from fort lauderdale but brought the car from cape coral. Pretty much the reason why the motor was so ****ed up, was ended up being that one of the pistons was cracked, obviously previous owner was overboosting.
anyways here it goes so far, lookwise, the way you see it is the way i brought it, motorwise everythings been replaced with new toyota genuine parts.

from here got the car up and running, had plenty of issues at the beggining including idling, big time fuel cutting, didnt know where to route the vacuum lines, disabled the tvis system.but after driving it for a 2 weeks kept messing with it little by little, got it running alright, and ordered apexi intake, flex dump pipe since all the fumes were going back inside the car and in the engine bay, degreased the engine bay. cHiK0ae10108-25-2011, 12:15 AMhttp://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e118/cHik0/mr2/2011-08-17113812.jpg

this is where im at now, messing with the a/c stuff, put a new accumalotr/filter and the r12-r134 retrofit fitting, and added the belt to the compressor. hopefully everything works because it seems like theres an electrical issue with it, wont know till tomorow, going to take it to a local shop since i dont have a way to vacuum out the system, all i know is now that i connected the belt to the compressor, even with the a/c it wont hold idle, but i did notice that when i click the a/c button, the idle electrical unit thats bolted to the rear firewall(that touches the trunk) clicks pretty loud, going to mess with it tomorow

besides the a/c thing ill be messing with, here is my current issues that i have to take steps with
-e-brake doesnt work at all, doesnt grab anything
-leak from both sides of where the ttop meets with the front piece holding the windshield
-still breaking in the miles, but when i step hard on it it does seem like it wants to fuel cut.
-speedometer seems like its all messed up, the water temp gauge doesnt work, the mileage since like sometimes it work sometimes it doesnt, rpm wise its all off and never passed 2krpm.
-i have a check engine light for the knock sensor(should i replace or maybe it could the timing.
from there, ive already ordered and awaiting, boost controller, forge bov,the downpipe/turbo gasket,a flex pipe. i definately need to get some gauges like water temp, BOOST GAUGE, n etc to make sure everything is running right. im also going to go get some bolts for where that downpipe/turbo meet, thinking of going to lowes for them tomorow since its leaking exhaust out of it since 2 bolts fell out.little by little, im going to look around for some oem flip up headlights, thinking of getting staggered rims with a deeeeep lip in the back, or maybe just find a similiar pair of rims and just get 2 with a deeper lip to place in rear. cHiK0ae10108-25-2011, 01:17 AMany inputs welcome, and definately if anyone has answers to my issues, i would love to hear them.like i said newbie to the mr2, but so far loving the little toy, here go some pics of my 20v corolla with jdm front end, has a blacktop 20v with 6spd LSD tranny, i got plenty of repsect with this car in south fl for not only being different, but running alot of cars and beating them with a 1.6 corolla including 350z,g35s,k-series honduhs, gsr's,etc. Have gone through 3 corollas and modified all(2 which i did 20v swaps on), but just sold the red one to a buddy of mine in fort meyers since i started on the mr2. For those that wonder why i got the corollacarclub.proboards.com decals on an mr2, it's a very organized club we've had for 10yrs, and may of the original memebrs have upgraded to supras, sc300's,lexus,etc and still with the club and going to events together, that why we changed it to proboards, we not only rep corollas, were full toyota and have boosted tercels, boosted paseo's,starlets, pletny of old school rwd corollas ae86's,and celica's, so if anyone from florida in general wants to hang out in big toyo groups, photoshoots, good meets, check out our website, the more toyotas the better, join and introduce youself. I'd love to meet other mr2 memebrs from here in florida that want to tag along and make it even bigger, the big meet we have coming is the drive to the jacksonville toyota show "sibling rivalry" very fun drive, we use the whole weekend, get a hotel, take plenty of photoshoots, etc.hope on personally meeting many mr2 owners from fl,especially the ones nearyby in south florida

I'm just west of you in Tamarac. U-pull had a red sw20 the last time I went there about 2 or 3 weeks ago. They're not very common there so they stick out. I can't remember the condition of the front end but you might want to check it out. cHiK0ae10108-25-2011, 10:57 PMnice, i drive by tamarac daily, im by mcnab and 441 so always driving through tamarac, theres always a white mr2 with white rims i use to see weekly when i would drive to work, but i guess he never really put to much attention to my red corolla, must of thought it was slow.is u-pull white?ive met him from my a buddy that always goes with him in a 240sx,n i know he's always at the spots, as far as me im not allowed to go out to okeechobee so not trying to but definately to meet up with other mr2's around south fl, especially to compare certain stuff like vacuum lines, etc.n yess mr2s definately stick out.and front end of what?
well replaced the steering wheel, its a bit big, wish i would of taken out my momo steering wheel out of my rolla, but if i find a good deal on another one ill hop on it.also got the flex pipe in mail, just await the turbo/downpipe gasket to finish it off.

No it's red but sometimes you can't be too picky. There's 2 guys that I know of around here (lauderhill) with 2 red sw's one turbo the other n/a. The turbo guy is on here also with the screen name bslik.

Swing by Tower Shops on friday nights and you might run into them. cHiK0ae10108-26-2011, 09:18 AMoooh, your reffering to u-pull-it. i thought u were saying that due that had the red mr2 on here s/n was u-pulll.cool, im definately going to go next week and see what i can find cHiK0ae10108-26-2011, 09:51 AMjust got this in, prosport mbc and a forge bov which i got as a combo for a great deal.

AirWreck10-06-2011, 12:23 PM...found me a 12'subwoofer ive had sitting around... i dont understand why it has two connections though?

Hey! Welcome to the forum! I found this car in Craigs list back around May or June. Was going to buy it for my lil bro until the owner said that he couldnt test drive it. Then he called us and said it would be ok if my bro didnt push it and warned that it might smoke a little bit because the valve guide seals were bad.:wtf: So we never called dude back! Anyway, I'm glad the car ended up with someone who is willing to take the time to de-fu*k it. You've done an AWESOME job so far.

Anyway, to answer you question on why your sub woofer has two connections... it's because it is a "dual voice coil" sub. Its like having two subs in one. Each connection goes to a separate coil and are usually connected to two separate amps. These subs are designed for maximum "thump" blawar10-06-2011, 12:54 PMLooks horrible, at least fix your body panel alignment before buying a bunch of useless parts. OEM bumpers and headlights would do wonders, maybe some OEM wheels too. cHiK0ae10110-06-2011, 02:35 PMlol airwreck i know what you mean dude, guy kept giving crap about not test driving it bcause it smoked this and that, dude im like im driving all they way from miami to cape coral to pick it up n not be able to drive it,from what he explained to me was that it smoked from the exhaust, naw dude this thing was a chimney from the pcv valve pipe out the valve cover, all because of the cracked piston. he had not idea what he was doing with the car and yes de-***-iting is excacly what ive been doing, im just glad motorwise i can say im fine with.now to work on lookwise.
-as far as blawar, sorry dude, not doing oem bumper, that front is pretty sick especially with the celica headlight conversion, and second the dumb previous owner messed up by fiberglassing in the front bumper and the headlights,so its not as easy as you think. not many 2nd gen mr2's in fort lauderdale, so ill make sure i stand out with it in a different way just like i did with my jdm corolla. and oem wheels for what, sell the ones i have and get some sexx staggered wheels man.waxed up the mrd0s today, ill post pics of it tomorow WrenchswingeR10-06-2011, 09:35 PMi give u props for all the work you've put into your car. I agree with u that you should throw on proper staggered wheels and nix those hideous frog eye headlights. Also, 1 more thing u should add to the interior: fire extinguisher. You have about 7 miles worth of wiring and doubt everything is individually fused..i have seen too many cars burnt to a crisp due to shorted, non-fused wiring. cHiK0ae10110-07-2011, 12:54 PMyes 7 miles of wiring is right, most of it that you saw in the earlier was pics of the stereo wiring the previous owner had for speakers/amps to the rear which i deleted all, if anything ill add a sub to the frunk, but dont want more wiring going towards the back.also got to close up all the holes this guy did on the walls for wires to run through, guy must of thought it was sheetmetal drilling holes everywhere. so brazilian waxed the mr2 for being a good girl with that meguiars. heres a few pics of it.

Paint it from the bottom for a nice glossy finish. cHiK0ae10110-12-2011, 08:27 AMso ordered the dark tint already, finished the headlights, ive never played/messed with plastic but i cant lie it was pretty interesting when i started molding it into shape with the head gun, didnt think it weas going to turn out that well.im not going to lie, the passenger side did crack after inserting a bolt, so i am going to go to home depot and get another plastic piece since they are only about 4bucks and redo it. even after shaping it it was still hard to get the piece to sit flush so yes i did end up using three screws on each, and so that i didnt have to drill into the plastic and crack it, i used a soldering iron, and just burned a hole through the plastic and held up good with bolts, once the tints get here ill use some black bolts so that it's unoticable. also brought some rubber for the leak i have on my t-tops by the window, hope it works since it sucks getting drops inside the car, especially with floridas crazy weather. and lastly got "that great stuff" to plug up all the holes on the wall the dumb ex-owner of the car did,not sure i he had them for running wires or what not but all i can say is, even the back of the carpeting was getting burned from the exhaust entering so plugged em all up.

like i posted before, doing this for now so that i dont have the rice headlights stand out too much, but im definately doing the celica headlight conversion with one of the celica car club guys oem headlights, but goign to wait out till about the beggining of next year. muffinman10-12-2011, 08:42 AMBe careful with that great stuff cause it's highly flammable. cHiK0ae10110-12-2011, 08:51 AMthanks for the lookout cHiK0ae10110-17-2011, 09:39 PMthe past 2days have been horrible n ugly in s.florida, just nonstop rain, so parked the mr2 in the garage and got to work on it.decided i'd paint the calipers over just to make them look cleaner, fixed a plastic cover under the car flapping under and since i had the car already in the air, decided to try out my neighbors old g35 rims since he kept bothering me about wanting to see them on the mr2, but like i thought, the front didnt seem quite to fit.it would sit right under the the strut, but the rears, woow them wide rear wheels though sure looked good on the car though.and still had a bit of clearence even with fat tires. so this definately made my decision that i want to do 19 in the rear and 18's in the front when im ready for a new set of wheels early next year. also tested out a front mount which i had laying around just to see how it would look with the front border bumper, and even though its jsut for looks for the front, i actually like it.going to get await some feedback from others and see if i make some brackets to leave it up front, makes it look cleaner.tomorow ill start on the headlights vynil and soem other stuff since ill have the day off.

I wish I took the time to document my build like this. The lights turn out really nice. Those G35 wheels look sick on your car. Hell, I would ask your neighbor if you guys could work out a deal! :D

Now this is just my humble opinion... but I wouldn't put on that front mount intercooler. Adding stuff on just for the sake of looks starts getting in to ricer territory. Anyone who knows a little about cars would see that and know its not a functional part of the car because its an MR2. I guess it's more principle than anything. But then again I'm getting old!. When I first got my car, I took off the Tom's scoop and side skirts the previous owner added and replaced the after market wheels with some simple Volk's to go for a clean look. There are NO other MR2s in my area. So even a clean, stock (looking) SW20 will stand out. :D AirWreck10-18-2011, 06:30 AMHere are some pics of my "old man" mobile! It's still a work in progress. No motor at the moment...Still have to install the built 5SGTE stroker when I get back home.(out of the country at the moment) And reinstall all of the lights. The guys at my shop pushed it out and washed it for me. The must of been really bored!

There are plenty of MK2's in the Tampa area. phzoinkMKII10-18-2011, 10:16 AMThe G35 wheels look really nice on there, however please don't put that intercooler in the front. If you want the look just get a really shinny radiator. cHiK0ae10110-18-2011, 10:28 AMyea airwreck, that gloss to it makes it look like a beauty.and from the front since everything is black out with no turn signals would confuse someone for a 2nd gen rx7.now thats a motor, and yea thats the thing also, not to many mr2's(especially 2nd gen) running around.as far as up in tampa i know a couple that hang with my car club buddies from a different club called toyota styles.not sure if youve heard of them. the volks are 18 all around? and as far as the intercooler idea, it's just since many hear have no idea what car it is, especially knowing that the motor is in the back, thought it might stand out with the intercooler sitting in the front. but yea, the g35 wheels just look massive and beasty on the mr2,its just the front that messes it up unless your running coilovers of course AirWreck10-18-2011, 11:31 AMLooks great AirWreck. :)

There are plenty of MK2's in the Tampa area.

Thanks for the props! :D I live in Wesley Chapel actually. It's just easier to put Tampa as my location since that's where my shop is at. I haven't seen one in Wesley Chapel and I've seen 1 sw20 ride by when I was at a light in tampa. And I've seen only 2 come into the shop. (in contrast to the all the Z's and Subarus) It sucks b/c if there are plenty of sw20s in Tampa… I never seen them come out and play! :( But now there will be two in Wesley Chapel b/c I bought Mike's '93 and Im picking it up finally at the end of the month. :D

...the volks are 18 all around?

Yup, 18" volks all the way around. 18x7.5 in the front and 18x9 in the rear. The front of the car is gonna look different when I put in the JDM turn signals and reinstall the fog lights. Although some ppl still thought it was an RX7 when I had the old lights on it. I can't say that I've heard of your friends car club. But that's not saying much because I live under a rock as it seems! (work) Yeah, those g35 wheels do look awesome on your car. Beastly is a good word :D What size tires are on the front g35 wheels? Maybe between playing with the size and coilovers in the front, you may get enough clearance. Totally worth it IMO!!! cHiK0ae10110-18-2011, 02:48 PMill recheck them when i go to the storage room but i know the profile is 40 on them. just throwing out a teaser.but now i feel like tinting it blue instead, i think it would look more exotic with the blue

Anyways heres the update, took the piping i had sitting in the back yard which was about 2.25,took everything to home depot to get couplings for now to test fit, and kept measuring till i got the pipes all right.woooooooow that thing sounds amaziiiing.i love that forge bov, if i drive without building boost or stepping on it, itll sound like a regular car without a bov, as soon as i build a bit of boost has a sweet tone on it, as soon as i step on it, the whole block heres that thing whistle.love it, since its not loud all the time.heres pics, but i do want to move that bov pipe more in the middle since its bother the hood/cold pipe.

i know that piece is 3.5 wide, so im thinking for now if i find some projectors at the junkyard i might just add them in for now cHiK0ae10111-07-2011, 03:37 PMwell friends, the time has arrived, staggered wheels is always a fantasy when having a rwd, so here it goes.finally got them rims from some dude rthat only had 3 wheels laying around, ended up getting them for 100bucks, they match perfectly to the rims i already have. after i tested the g35 19rims i fell in love in which the way the car tilted and how they sit flush.so here they go, later down the road ill see if i get the 4th wheel to add in the front or just paint the wheels all the same too match and professionally get them polished. Ill get new rubber for them this week. here they go 19x8.5 Stern ST1 wheels with no rubbing on 245/35/19 tires.
-also some i havnt shared
