View Full Version : Moonroof idea

Silversmith08-19-2011, 12:03 AMHello everyone I was just wondering has anyone tried to swap the moonroof with a automatic one that slides the glass back?Just wondering 328FTW08-19-2011, 06:16 AMSlide back to where? There is little to no space in the mr2 numba1rolla08-19-2011, 09:01 AMi was thinking about that the other day but thought it may be easier if i had a ht. andeewon108-19-2011, 09:40 AMit could be like a scion tc where is slides back and upwards and hangs out of the car lol but that sounds pretty difficult to fab up imo numba1rolla08-19-2011, 09:42 AMwell i guess you never know till someone tries. i might stop by a shop later today. mmltml08-19-2011, 09:54 AMI saw a black '91 on eBay that had a power sliding one...tC style. Didn't look right IMO...I'll try and find a link.

EDIT: I saw this thread on the forum homepage, didn't realize it was in the MK1 section...

Maybe a sliding canvas top? small scale version of this?

If you can pull it of it would look sick! mmltml08-19-2011, 11:50 AM^Right, thats how the '91 I saw was like. I was suggesting the canvas top idea if the power sliding idea would work. RePete08-19-2011, 01:06 PMI wouldn't say that's not possible, but producing that in a leak free, quality version would cost twice as much as the car's worth.

When backyard fabbers start handling projects of this nature, they almost always do not suit the build quality of the rest of the car & end up looking like, say, what a homemade elevator might look like. Silversmith08-20-2011, 03:07 AMwell I was going to to a shop and have it done cause this line is out of my scope. I was just thinking about if it was really a good idea.plus before that I still need to fix the c pillar trim and get a rear visor. but I was thinking it would look sweet like that so Im still drawing the concept so I hope to possibly get it done and make it look sick ya know muffinman08-22-2011, 11:02 AMI can't see how that would be possible?

All I keep picturing is this. :undecided

I have been thinking about it for awhile would the size and specs be about the same as the roof? muffinman08-23-2011, 11:49 PMThis is the mechanism for the 300c and I'm guessing no way.
