View Full Version : New (to me) '93 Turbo!

crimsonstone07-25-2011, 09:07 PMHey folks,

I've been quietly (very quietly) hanging around the forums for a couple months and am finally saying my official, "Hello" ... with pics. :) I want to start off by asking, "Does everyone else's MR2 slide like a dream?" The handling makes me giggle. I think I've comfortably slid through half of the intersections within a two-mile radius of my house. Moving on..

I bought a '93 Turbo a few months ago and couldn't be happier thus far. It's almost entirely stock and, as you'll see in one of the photos, has less than 55k miles on it. The only mods done when I bought it were a custom single-exit exhaust (which I'll be replacing with a new dual, though haven't decided which) and a custom-fab'd intake adapter with a K&N cone on it. It also has a set of Centerline Monsoon 17" wheels, which I'm not in love with, but they're ~15lbs a piece..

I've since replaced the shift boot with a Redline classic and picked up a 98-spec shift knob from DB8. I replaced all of the old turbo hosing with a set from Berk Tech, along with half of the vacuum tubing. (Yes, I need to fix a little kink in one of the turbo hoses). I also replaced the two stock subwoofers with a pair of Dayton Audio ND140s.

The previous owner put about 4,000 miles on it over 6 years, always chemically winterizing it, keeping it up on jack stands and covered during the less-than-optimal months of the year. He changed the oil every year and flushed the gas tank when the weather started to turn nice again. Basic maintenance and going through a car that sat, even very cleanly, has been my day-to-day since I picked it up. Any tips on things to look for would be much appreciated!

Without further ado, here are a few pictures. My apologies for the cell phone shots... I just moved into a new house and the camera is still packed up.

Andy Swany07-25-2011, 11:24 PMWelcome! (Sliding in a duece is addicting huh?) crimsonstone10-14-2011, 01:48 PMGah.. I'm so excited! Today is car-fun day. She's in the shop right now getting some love..

Installing:
Berk Technology 3" Exhaust
Berk Technology 3" Downpipe w/ Wideband port
Koni Yellows (with KYB bump stop boots)
Eibach Pro-Kit

Also having them take a look at my turbo.. think I've got a vacuum line hidden away somewhere that's causing a loss of pressure.. maybe the wastegate is having issues. Also asked them to look at a valve or exhaust manifold ticking sound.

Should have the car back tonight. :D Will post before/after pics! Smurfcrusher10-14-2011, 04:42 PMGreat looking car! Love the wheels, too.
I also have the full Berk w/ bellhousing & wideband port. Makes a BIG difference in performance over stock. It resonates at 1400 RPMs, but that's low enough to be interesting without being annoying. Enjoy ! goopi10-14-2011, 04:56 PMThat's a clean engine bay, mine looked like a complete mess when I first looked at it, but that didn't stop me from getting it.;)

So far I see good mods going on the car, good stuff! MR2_Hunter10-14-2011, 05:55 PMLow mileage 93 turbo. Yes....oh yes, very nice!! WrenchswingeR10-14-2011, 10:32 PMNice car, nice mods, nicer mileage! crimsonstone10-14-2011, 10:37 PMOh my god. Just got the car home from my post-shop fun run...

The exhaust is just fantastic and the combination of that and the new downpipe has made a noticeable power increase. The new suspension is night and day better than the stock setup.. Much more solid feeling.

I'll post new pics tomorrow when it's light outside. :D

Thanks for all the kudos, guys! crimsonstone10-17-2011, 03:11 PMFriggin' sweet.
