View Full Version : Spray paint matching Crimson Red

Rulez07-23-2011, 04:30 PMI have been wanting to paint my side mouldings to match the rest of the car. I see Advance Auto and Autozone and whatnot all sell spray paint that matches factory paint on several manufacturers, but I did'nt find anything for Toyotas. Anyone have a specific brand and/or color that is readily available that matches the Crimson Red color?

Thanks in advance :) j-dawg07-24-2011, 04:45 PMYou're best off going to a paint shop and asking them to mix you a paint match. Your paint has been through twenty years of hard work - I doubt it looks the same as it did whe nit came off the showroom floor. Hmm, good point. Although I think my paint has fared pretty well over the years, it still may be slightly off. Maybe black would look good.

Yep! Good find. I think I will try it in red and see how it turns out. If it is terribly off due to paint fade over the years.....well, it probably won't look any worse than it does now to be honest :D SW20MR207-26-2011, 07:11 PMNo!! Dont do it, the stuff at autozone doesnt match. Trust me, i've learned my lesson the hard way. And its safe to say never again.:clumsy: Its partially my fault because i shouldnt have done such a large area without testing it out first but, lesson learned:tear: andyb1607-27-2011, 03:12 PMThe local Advance Auto has Super Red II, but no crimson. I was just looking a couple weeks ago. They have a book with all the paint codes (crimson red is 3j6, by the way) but it only goes back to 1995 or so. r3d.mr207-27-2011, 03:23 PMi have my 3j6 can coming in either today or tmorow as well to do the side moulds. ill let you know how that goes and how it comes out by this weekend. hopefully. the centre panel was painted as well. although i have messed up badly, i didnt really care :twitch: andyb1608-13-2011, 02:13 AMThat looks more like Super Red than crimson to me, it's noticeably brighter. The side moldings don't look bad, but the center panel just jumps out for some reason. SW20MR208-13-2011, 02:51 AMYep same thing happened to me too! Maybe we cant see to well due to lighting, but the autozone(duplicolor) red is brighter. But i must say, thats a very good job. What did you use for the clear coat? r3d.mr208-14-2011, 05:55 PMyeah thats what i keep thinking too. the sides also look brighter when the sun is directly on it. more like Super Red. but i think its just the whole car painting that interferes with it blending in right. r3d.mr208-14-2011, 05:57 PMYep same thing happened to me too! i just used some Krylon Clear clear coat from K-Mart for like $3. didnt spray alot on it so guess its not all shiny lookin. but looks like its not all much a difference. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
