View Full Version : For Sale: 1988 MR2 SC

treyd07-18-2011, 01:37 AM1988 MR2 SC (auto. if this frightens you, read the last paragraph at least)

Very good condition for an 86,XXX car. It's spent a couple of years outside, but most of its life inside the garage.

There has never been any engine or body work done except the following:

spark plugs replaced, valve cover gasket replaced, oil pan gasket replaced

Everything on the car is stock except:

Wheels (16" 6 spoke rims w/ 205mm rubber) Stock wheels w/ snow tires included

Tires (
Pulley (has slight boost --about 10 psi vs 8 psi)

Rear Sway bar

New suspension and components (ALL Toyata linkage parts, including linkages for rear sway bar, New Tokiko 5 way adjustable struts, Eibach Sport springs (yes, made for this car), All urethane bushing kit) (
Battery (about a year old)

Alarm

MR2 Branded Floor Mats (about a year old)

When the alarm was installed the driver's side A pillar busted, so I recently replaced that, in addition to adding a new ash tray since I busted it a while back.

I have the original pulley, and the broken parts I replaced in case you want any of it.

I'm the 3rd owner. The first owner was unbelievably anal as he kept mileage records, etc., which I have. The 2nd owner (both from Salt Lake City) was equally detailed and careful.

I don't believe there to be any rust on the car (certainly none I've noticed) and it was never wrecked whatsoever.

I bought it with just over 52,XXX miles and drove it for about 3.5 years. I bought a new car about 9 months ago and while I don't owe anything on this car, nor do I need to sell it, it's just sitting in the garage collecting dust. Someone should be driving it.

This car has NO mechanical defects. Yes, it has some minor flaws due to its age and mileage. If you live in Florida, you can fly here and drive it home and all you will need is gas. Even though there was never a failure and I didn't NEED to put anything into this car other than gas or oil, I elected to keep it in tip-top shape and have therefore spent over $4500 on this car and none of it was cheap nor for show -- it's all in the spirit of keeping it up. As you saw from the note about the suspension components, when it was time to replace them, I wanted something more agressive, so I went in that direction.

I've never driven this car hard nor abused it. Also, it's been fed only fully synthetic oil.

A note about the tranny: I orignally shopped the entire U.S. looking for such a car. I missed out on two that went for 10k each, but were manuals. I was one of two people who found this car the day it was listed and offered to buy it. I flew the next available day with cash to Utah to make sure I got it. Before I bought it, I found a tranny shop in my town that would swap the tranny out -- labor and material -- for $1000. In case you didn't know, the shifter housing and bezel is the same on both cars, and all the holes are already drilled for the clutch pedal. However, after driving it back from Utah, I realized that even at 100 mph, it was only at about 4500 rpm, thanks to the overdrive switch. It's geared to bury the spedo before redline, not that it has enough hp to do such a thing.... Anyway, it was nice to have a car geared higher that was quieter and smoother on the freeway. Since I'm not taking it to the track and I already owned a hot rod car that had a manual gearbox, I figured, why spend a grand? palos07-18-2011, 09:26 AMWhich tires are you running on your car and what is the aspect ratio? I was using 205/40-16s when I had my Kosei K1s. traintech8607-18-2011, 10:17 AMman this seems like such a nice ride. I hope it finds a good home! treyd07-19-2011, 04:17 PMTo Palos: I'm running 205/45/16s. Falcon brand from Les Schwab w/ good warranty. I have same model on my Bmw 330i and they are my favorite low profile tire despite reasonable price.

To traintech86: Thanks. It is a nice car and I hope if finds a good home. As soon as I get done waxing it I'll upload new pics and a few vids too. treyd07-19-2011, 04:17 PMDoh! I see, I said 225 rubber. That was obviously wrong!! My VW has that, not the MR2. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
