View Full Version : i need some advice...anyone?

PCx18806-01-2006, 03:39 AMok, i got sideswiped. passenger side from front wheel well all the way thru to the rear wheel well. my paint code is 6M1? (95 mr2 dark green met. or AMP? turns kinda bluish green in the sun light.)

anyways, insurance cut me a check for 730 bucks cuz they said it was a 50-50 at fault thing. so they only will pay for the damage which ALLSTATE estimated at 1460 and some change.

now, what will be cheaper for me...take the MR2 in and have the shop remove the dents and re-paint the 3 panels (front fender, pass. door and rear fender).....or should i replace the front fender and door myself and have them just do the dentwork for the rear fender and have them re-paint the 3 panels?

if there's any confusion with my question...what's cheaper...

dentwork and paint on all 3 panels or dentwork on 1 panel and paint on 3 panels?

also, how the hell do insurance companies determine their damage estimates? i saw a guy on a PC and taht's it...does anyone know?

thanks in advance. VTsuckah13106-01-2006, 06:27 AMyou need to argue with the insurance company. It's like pulling teeth to get the right amount from them. So let me get this striaght....you have a diff insurance company than allstate? and allstate gave you an estimate? That's odd.

If you have a 91/92 mkII, you have aquamarine pearl. changes blueish/green/slight purplish yada yada yada.

as for what to do.....If the damage is not bad and can be fixed, I would keep the original fenders and doors and have the shop fix it. I would rather have all original paneling for resale purposes down the line.

It is always cheaper to source your own parts and install them, but if you have no bodywork experience, it is rather difficult to make fenders and doors fit properly and line up. Irregardless, they will have to paint match surrounding panels other than the damaged ones. AMP is tough to match properly. When I had my accident, the body shop tried three different times to paint match the AMP color. As picky as I am, I just had the entire car resprayed. Ncturnal06-01-2006, 07:32 AMWas there a police report filed? Did a cop issue any citations? How did they determine it to be a 50/50 fault thing? $750 is BS and won't even come close to covering what you have described. You have some more arguing to do with the insurance companies. PCx18806-01-2006, 01:02 PMwell the person that hit me said that i hit her. i say she hit me. i was told that in NYC cases like thisare always 50-50. no witnesses and word against each other. zanny06-02-2006, 06:53 PMhow the hell do insurance companies determine their damage estimates? i saw a guy on a PC and taht's it...does anyone know?
Insurance companies accept three types of estimating software. Allstate lowballed you on the 1460.00 estimate. Don't cash the check. Once you cash the check, claim over.
Need to see a copy of the estimate. Manual inputs on the estimate are highlited with an asterik of something else. PCx18806-05-2006, 02:53 PMso then what do i do now? zanny06-10-2006, 04:26 PMso then what do i do now?
Hold out. Dragg it out as long as possible.
