Well, it was something i could not pass up. Some guy locally (less than 5 minutes away) was looking for a classic, smog exempt car to fix up.....

he had bought the mr2 a couple months ago with 80% of the mods that the car has currently, and didn't really know what he had. he was not mechanically inclined at all.

anyway, when he had it, the car started to have a coolant leak, so he parked it and just let the car sit for a month. he then put it up on craigslist for cheap because a mechanic, over the phone, diagnosed his car with having a BHG. i traded him that 240z i had, with worst case scenario being that the MR2 actually had a BHG. he was very happy with the trade despite my Z being old and tired. i was willing to work on this MR2 even if it had such a major issue. turns out, it did not.......

long story short, it ended up being that the coolant overflow hose was leaking and causing coolant to leak on a portion of the engine. that in itself was an easy fix. lots of TLC, some time, a few choice modifications, and 2 dyno sessions later, the car is where it is now. compression, leakdown tests are all good. in fact i was able to smog the car just fine the day after we traded.

previously being a supra guy....i had really wanted to get into a MK3 supra again, and already had a plan of what i wanted to do, but when this opportunity came up i could not turn it down. plus ive had 3 supras in the past and never an MR2, so why not? :) did i mention i LOVE obd1 turbo toyotas?
