View Full Version : Deuce.0 Diary

Velisma04-28-2011, 12:51 AMWell, it was just a matter of time before I put my grubby little paws on this car and started mangling and twisting it to my will and desires. I've been digging the stock feel and sound for the past 2 weeks but not necessarily the 14" wheels and brake feel. My most immediate modification goal is to the braking and handling department. I also wanted a bit more of an aggressive stance on this particular project given that it is a proper sports car from the factory. So, what exactly will Stage I incur??? Well, don't expect super, uber rare wheels the kiddos will drool over but do expect carefully selected parts that'll compliment the whole and get the job done... hopefully

"DEUCE.0"
Stage I: Suspension, brakes & wheels

1) Suspension components...

A) Currently sitting on H&R's soon to have TRD springs to raise up a bit

B) Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable struts came with car! :D

2) Brake components...

A) Goodrich G-stop Stainless Steel Brake line kit
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn250/velisma/Toyota%20MR2%20Project/gstopkit.jpg

B) fresh brake fluid

C) Hawk brake pads

3) Wheel & Tire components...

B) MB Weapon wheels (staggered set-up) Not rare by any means but fits my budget, taste and frankly; I don't giva' F*ck. Oh yeah, they also look particularly sick on MR2's btw :sifone:

Front: 17x8 +28 offset
Rear: 17x9 +17 offset

C) Kuhmo Ecsta AST's (what I had on the Civic hatch) It willget more serious rubber as the power motivating the car does as well.
Front: 215/45/17
Rear: 235/45/17

After it's all said and done, hopefully it will look similar to this. Inspired by kyn3sys' recently sold MR2.

Same wheel, size, color, offset front and back as I will have. I've never been a 17" wheel kinda' guy but these looked stellar w/ the factory lines. We'll see soon enough.

I'm sure a video will follow once all this madness ensues. STAY TUNED!!! WrenchswingeR04-28-2011, 11:32 PMnice choice on wheels, i almost went with those myself. Can i suggest you consider changing the tire sizes though..235's are gonna be stupid stretched on a 9in wheel, the front 215s will be also but not unbearable. As for the profile do you want 45series to protect rims from damage? 40 series tires look and handle better, and keep in mind the rear 235/45 are gonna be noticeably fatter than the 215/45 cause that number is a percentage of the width. If i were in your shoes i'd throw 225/40 up front and 245/35 (maybe 40) in the rear. Good luck wit your project Velisma05-06-2011, 09:41 PMwell, got the rims and tires in and you're right. It is a bit fat and stretched. I wonder if I can get them traded out for the ones you suggested at a discount tire. Pay the different or something? WrenchswingeR05-06-2011, 11:17 PMsome tire shops will buy your tires back, but you will def lose some money on it. Velisma05-17-2011, 01:30 PMWell, finally got a chance to take some pix of the car w/ new rims on. It's currently sitting on Tokico 5-way adjustable struts and H&R springs. It rubs slightly but I just got some TRD springs in too. This is w/o the TRD's installed yet...

And yet... still more parts waiting to be installed. A few more items to come in and then it'll be time to get down to the nitty-gritty!!! ;)

stay tuned!!!! WrenchswingeR05-17-2011, 11:50 PMlooks good, aggressive..esp from the back..
side note: it really irritates me that 95% of gen2 mr2's all have that tweaked rear deck lid where the pass-side raises up a half an inch.
..As you were Velisma05-18-2011, 12:50 PMGives the cars character... Velisma05-19-2011, 09:21 PMSo... Nothing too drastic today but just something on the subtle side added to the Deuce today...

Car w/ the 91 front lip...

Looks good I think :) WrenchswingeR05-19-2011, 10:19 PM^def, i just put one on mine also. i personally like them and the side mldgs color-matched but your car looks good as it is! BTW, adjust your headlight covers to flush w/ the hood.. Velisma05-20-2011, 05:45 PMAh, just noticed that. Thanks for the heads up! tksmr205-24-2011, 02:45 PMlooks good, aggressive..esp from the back..

..As you were

I adjusted mine with the rubber stoppers, and got it even on both sides. Adjusting those headlight covers are a pita to get perfect. masruque05-24-2011, 03:53 PMsomebody's deuce looks goood :D WrenchswingeR05-24-2011, 11:09 PMI adjusted mine with the rubber stoppers, and got it even on both sides. Adjusting those headlight covers are a pita to get perfect.

i did the same. Used an additional bushing on the left side of the trunk to force the tilt back to the right, evened it out almost perfect. Mine was so bad before the stamp-welding in the trunk actually separated, i had to clamp/tack it back into place Velisma05-29-2011, 10:14 PMGot a GoPro Hero HD recently to document any and all exploits involving this little car. First bit of footage is from my old Nikon pocket camera just to show the contrast between the two cameras. I had a lot of fun making the video. THIS THING ROCKS BTW!!!

Enjoy!!!
The Daily Grind... on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/24444914) WrenchswingeR06-02-2011, 11:56 PMCool vid bro..those Weapon wheels look so sick in motion Velisma06-09-2011, 02:35 PMThanks, it turned out better than I had hoped. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some Auto-x footage on here soon. Going to the races this wknd!!! :D tiguy9904-24-2012, 02:50 PMGot any Auto X clips?
