SW21T04-20-2011, 12:40 AMi like the color! you did it your self. Heytheremr204-20-2011, 03:18 AMso did you just leave it rattle can or are you planning on putting some sort of clear coat over it? There was a post ages ago about someone that repainted their car using rattle cans, then clearcoated it, and it actually turned out pretty decent.

You got skills, from the pictures, it doesnt look like a bad job. I dont dig yellow for cars but, more power to ya for the work. Shadow113104-20-2011, 06:29 AMHow many cans of paint did you use and how many coats? JDMRII9104-20-2011, 08:18 AMI didnt dig yellow either lol It was Jumbo cans of rustoleum enamel and figured what the hell. I used about 12 cans and its 3-4 coats roughly and its an enamel paint. I am letting it sit for a week and become bone dry so it doesn't krinkle when I do this next step.I am taping it all up wet sanding it and then 1 more coat of color and then when it tacks up I will clear it And then post more picks right now has a satin finish looks cool though. I did it all out side also and 5-10mph winds the next coats will be done indoors. I have a wood stove and piped the threw the duct system so I will cut off all other rooms and bake this thing as warm as i can get it. JDMRII9104-20-2011, 08:22 AMMy buddy if you all read Import Tuner he owns the Candy Raspberry RHD RSX in the latest Issue Josh Croll is his name he showed me alot when it comes to painting he owns his own shop "Crolls Customs" prep work is everything and alot of blocking down coats in between for a glass like finish. 328FTW04-20-2011, 08:47 AMHow much is it per can? Namerif04-20-2011, 09:23 PMNice work bro I've been debating on rattle canning my 2 as well but ill probably hold off I found some homie next town over that does good body work for a lowrider car club said he'd shave it and pull dents and primer for 800 WrenchswingeR04-20-2011, 11:00 PMNot bad, with those last few steps it should be perfect. I want to spray mine too but since i have a nice big compressor i would nix the rattle cans and get a good spray gun and some paint. Also probably invest in a tarp/tent and do outside. Good work! JDMRII9104-21-2011, 08:32 AMThanks I did the spoiler it turned out good alot more glossy and glass like finish this enamel paint really needs to be bone dry to spray clear or it wrinkles. I cant wait until 2 coats of clear and then wet sanding and buffing. JDMRII9104-21-2011, 08:39 AMIt was $4 a can I was going to paint it Charcoal metallic but that was 6 and some change each. I bought 20 cans didnt use all of them though but will on next coat and they are the 25% more cans. The total cost of the primer, sanding materials(800grit wet dry,80&120grit for D/A sander, frog tape worked amazing, plastic, and 10 cans of clear and base paint I ended up spending a little over $200. WrenchswingeR04-21-2011, 11:21 PMgotta love that price!
i rattle can primered my car and after 2-3 cans back to back my hand was all fcuked up from pushing the nozzle. Did you use one of those leverage sprayer attachment things.. RePete04-21-2011, 11:32 PMI initially skipped this thread because of the title, I thought "Not another desecration of an SW20."

But I have to admit it looks pretty good. Can't make out much detail from those pics but it looks like it's at least a 2 foot car. TomsMR204-21-2011, 11:38 PMyou can polish spraypaint to a glass finish. it still fails a year later. 328FTW04-21-2011, 11:55 PMyou can polish spraypaint to a glass finish. it still fails a year later.

This, it fades bad to. Real paint on special or mistints is cheap as what you stated. WrenchswingeR04-23-2011, 03:33 PMalso spray paint has no flex agent in it which could lead to easy spider webbing and cracking Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc.
