ebd85MKl04-06-2011, 08:14 PMHeya...have a 85 MKl, 203K on the clock. Mechanically sound, previous owner had the head rebuilt, changed injectors, distib, cam gears, timing belt, plugs wire etc. I've done the breaks (pads rotors) and alternator and battery. Tires are close to new. Trans and clutch work great. Uses/leaks no oil. Cosmetically OK...looks fine from about ten+ feet, no rust or dents and someone had it painted not too long ago, but the paint job was pretty shoddy. interior is clean, seats are very good. Only two issues I know of, one, the battery tray rusted thru so I have the battery secured with the old tray and a strap. Have a use ray I bought just needs to be welded in. Also, the cars has run temp wise perfectly until recently, VERY rarely it will shoot to really hot for a few moments then go right back to normal, I'm certain it's either air in the system or at worst thermostat. Radiator fans hoses all fine (and no nothing was damaged by the brief overheating). Passed smog easily, tags good thru Jan '12, clean pink in hand. I think 2k is fair would prob knock some off due to the temp thing. In LA near Hollywood.

But,

your doing yourself a dis-favor by offering a defective car for sale. Why dicker with a discount for a repair that your not sure of?

If it takes 30 min to bleed the system and costs you nothing, buddy, that's a no-brainer.

Respectfully suggest u do some reading on how to market a car for sale, you need an eddikation.

(BTW blue book on the car is $1500) phzoinkMKII04-07-2011, 03:39 PMBlue book isn't really that accurate when it comes to the MR2. The actual MR2 market drives the listing prices, blue book is an estimate determined by looking at all the sales and public auctions auctions reported, then averaged out. Usually people use blue book as a starting point. ebd85MKl04-07-2011, 06:51 PMMr2tim, thanks so much for your totally utterly incredibly valuable input. But frankly getting an education in selling used cars, well I'm a pretty busy guy so not certain if it's the best use of my time. If it means I leave a couple hundred bucks on the table or blow a sale altogether, oh well. I also prefer to be honest about any issues I know about and which might be a simple fix for someone. I also don't fix my own cars...have no interest in, or predilection for, or place in which to do it (I live in LA and park my cars on the street). I also certainly don't claim to be an expert in the proper valuation of a 1985 MR2...if it's priced too high the marketplace will tell me so and it won't sell at that price. I bought the car as a kick because I always wanted one...I'll just keep it and keep running it through the canyons on the weekends if nobody wants it, worse things have happened on earth. Ps you were correct mechanic just called low water cap slightly leaking bled all fixed. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
