View Full Version : Question about the stock sub

AkorAceb04-06-2011, 03:53 PMWhy dose the small sub under the driver seat only turn on when the radio is on? It wont work on aux, or while playing a cd. DougFreeze04-06-2011, 10:58 PMUsually there is a Radio Antenna Turn-On wire coming out of the back of the stereo. It tells power antennas to go up or down whenever the radio is turned on and off. (It's also known as an amplifier Turn-On wire.)
I would guess that since the CD and AUX on your radio don't need an antenna, your Turn-On wire is not telling the little amplifier under the seat to turn on.

I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to think of an easy fix, but I can't.
What is the stereo model number?
Maybe someone else will come up with a solution other than installing a manual turn-on switch that can tell your little under-seat amplifier to turn-on.
I guess you could hotwire it to an ignition 'hot' wire so that whenever your car is on, your little amp. turns on.

(Absolutely NOT a Sub. Sub means that it produces frequencies below what a woofer produces. The only thing that this little speaker is capable of getting 'below' - is your Butt. I just had to get that off my chest. Sorry.) AkorAceb04-07-2011, 02:20 AMIts a sony Xploit, If thats the case could i just connect it to the amp remote wire?
ill look up the model number tomorrow. DougFreeze04-07-2011, 07:56 AMThat's exactly what that amp. remote wire is for. It turns on your amplifiers whenever the head unit is turned on.
So you must have the antenna wire turning it on right now. Just get to the back of the head unit and switch those wires somehow.
(Sorry I don't know the color of the wires you should be looking for. The amplifier turn-on wire in the back of the head unit should be blue or blue with white stripe.) mr2tim04-07-2011, 11:12 AMI suspect, but am not totally sure, that the OEM wire your looking to tap that Dougie suggests is the Pink-Light Blue. Located in the #5 position on the Woofer Amp connector and shown as connector drawing "D" on Page 25

This is the only wire shown in the Toyota Electrical Service Manual on Page 25 & 26 that is common to the Woofer & Antenna.

Interesting info Dougie, nice call. muffinman04-11-2011, 11:05 AMYour amp lead on your sony harness needs to be connected to the black w/red from the oem harness. (bottom row L-R 2nd from last) Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
