View Full Version : Replacement fog lights

wrench03-06-2011, 11:17 AMHi All,

One of my front foglights is damaged, and I have been looking for replacements. I know I can get used from the board occasionally (but it seems to be getting harder now) or new ones from the dealer, but I ran across this aftermarket set and wondering if anybody has ordered them or seen them?
90-98 Toyota MR2 SW20 Clear Lens Fog Lights OEM JDM - eBay (item 130493939052 end time Apr-03-11 19:16:53 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-98-Toyota-MR2-SW20-Clear-Lens-Fog-Lights-OEM-JDM-/130493939052?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AToyota%7CModel%3AMR2%7CYear%3A1991&hash=item1e620b7d6c)

I've emailed the seller for more info, but wanted to know if anybody else has experience with them. They seem like a great deal (if the quality is there?)

Thanks for any feedback! RePete03-06-2011, 12:19 PMLooks pretty good, never seen that before, claim is they're OE approved. And the wiring harness, switch and relay are included, all for $200 (these are $150 each with no other hardware from the dealer). The only things missing are the $10 mounting plates. I kind of doubt anyone here has experienced these, they look pretty new. Maybe you can be the first and report back? Seems like a good, but not great, deal

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqJ,!kwE1K9r-Pn4BNb2b9Drfw~~_12.JPG wrench03-06-2011, 07:41 PMI may just order them in, I received this reply back from the seller:

The lenses are glass. The fog housings themselves are heavy b/c of the glass and high quality construction. It doesn't feel light and cheap like most other fog lights out there!

I figure if they are glass, and it's $50.00 more than 1 oem one, why not.

I'll post back if / when I do order them. ;) wrench03-11-2011, 09:40 AMI've ordered the lights in, and should be here next week. I'll post some pics and offer feedback after I install them.
I'm dreading the rounded off, seized mounting bolts :( RePete03-11-2011, 10:31 AMAwesome! I'm right behind you. If you can compare them to OEM (including the dash switch & relay) and its favorable, I'll probably pop for a set too. Just the damn rocker switch is like $50 or more. skyteck03-12-2011, 04:14 PMhey guys doing some more digging i found the same set but with starting bid of $49.95.... it seems to be the same exact picture as the as the one above and i think it even offers the same items...

Since MR2s aren't all that popular, I wouldn't be surprised if someone could nab those fogs for about a hundred bucks considering one won't have much bid competition. They come in a yellow and smoked version as well - and with all the hardware too.

Item Comes With H3 Light Bulbs, Switch, Wiring Harness and Mounting Bracket skyteck03-12-2011, 06:39 PMits about time someone made them more affordable... some toyota used ones run for about 150.... in not all that great condition...and new from the dealer about 140ea... only thing is the quality may not be the best...

i wonder how these smoked ones would look
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$%28KGrHqYOKpME1qk46tk7BNeZG4pWSw~~0_12.JPG RePete03-12-2011, 10:33 PMI just ordered a set of the clear fogs for $55. I figure at that price, I can't lose unless they're made of Frosted Flakes. That's insanely cheap, it's roughly lunch for a week for me.

If these are as good as I think they are, this is going to really stick it big time to all those sellers who are determined to get rid if their used ones for $200 (usually w/ broken tabs too). wrench03-13-2011, 11:50 AMThat was an excellent find skytech, and good buy on your part RePete! I'm jealous as I ordered them for close to $200.00 :ugh:

Oh well, I'm glad that this thread can help out the owners out there. I agree, $200.00 for a pair of used and broken fogs just bothered me- supply and demand just got a little more interesting! marazaii03-13-2011, 08:15 PMI bought a set about 2 weeks and they bolt right in, everything is included except the aligning bracket but you can get them from Lithia Toyota with the insert for $28 and a few cents, no regrets! marazaii03-13-2011, 08:41 PMwho is bidding on that set on ebay? any of you guys? marazaii03-13-2011, 10:26 PMhttp://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/i477/marazaii/IMAG0468.jpgI also got a set of clear ones coming... RePete03-13-2011, 10:29 PMCool. How do you find the light pattern? The same as OEM? That's what concerns me the most, I'm hoping it's not some strange improvised glass design. marazaii03-13-2011, 10:43 PMits not as sharp as the OEM but they are not that bad, from 1-10 i give it an 8.5, 10 being the best... marazaii03-13-2011, 10:44 PMwhen i get a chance ill post how it looks at night RePete03-13-2011, 11:00 PMI can live with an 8.5/10 considering the amazing cost. Besides, I'm sure my Sylvania Silverstar H3s will project enough light to [almost] use them as headlights.

I'm going to take some before and after shots too. I've already got a set of the OEMs installed but one of them just doesn't look right, like it's got a shadow in it or something. badtzracr03-13-2011, 11:12 PMi just ordered mine marazaii03-13-2011, 11:40 PMgood stuff peeps! TonyHuynhTwo03-14-2011, 09:37 AMI just ordered mine too. wrench03-14-2011, 05:39 PMdarn, looks like the seller has caught wind of our interest. The price is now $137.49 for "buy it now":

Oh well, for those of you who got in at the $55.00 you got quite the deal! Rexify03-14-2011, 06:01 PMI think I bought the 2nd to last one that was 55 during lunch time. cant wait to install. Always wanted fogs but could not get myself to buy used ones for over 100. skyteck03-14-2011, 06:29 PMman this sucks i was bidding for ones at 50 and the guy canceled all bids and now the fogs are 124+ship.... i guess he didnt even know what he was selling and how much these usually go for.. i just wonder if he was selling them for 55 these shouldn't be too expensive to make if he thought he was making a profit for 55, imagine now for 144 this sucks  mmltml03-14-2011, 07:01 PMSuper. Lame. :banghead: RePete03-14-2011, 07:43 PMYeah, the gouging begins. They obviously saw increased activity and wanted to cash in, they're all slime. If everyone eases off they might drop the prices in a few weeks. TonyHuynhTwo03-15-2011, 06:40 AMWelcome to the world of supply and demand my friends. I'm glad I got in for $55. marazaii03-15-2011, 06:59 AM+1^, bet ya this ppl are laughing their way to the bank! samsilva00707-07-2011, 10:38 PMHey guys, considering buying these, price is now $125
saw that no one posted pictures of them, hows the quality now after 4 months? RePete07-07-2011, 11:01 PMAt $125, I'd get them. I think they're priced at $125 because another vendor is selling them for that as a regular price - no price fluctuations either.

I had to remove mine because of wiring issues, truly shitbox wiring that's included, total junk. I'll try to get them on again soon with a little help, probably need to wire in the 20 year old OEM wiring which is much more durable.

But the glass so far looks good, decent light pattern and very shiny/new looking. Someone commented that the glass gauge isn't as dense as OEM which could contribute to increased rock chips in the future - makes sense to me. A coating beforehand with some 3M rock guard-like product would probably be a good idea. samsilva00707-07-2011, 11:14 PMokay sounds good, thanks man
i just placed my order. But question now is, where can i buy better wiring?
Even if its the oem, cause my car isnt pre-wired. RePete07-08-2011, 03:15 AMNot sure on that, maybe someone else can chime in with a solution.

But since your deuce has nothing pre-installed, chances are you'll need to order these $10 fog brackets from Lithia. If you're up to it, I'd also order stainless steel fog lamp bolts from TwoRUs here (http://www.twosrus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_30&products_id=134).

http://www3.telus.net/ssweb/Fogbrackets.jpg samsilva00707-08-2011, 10:40 AMwell supposely on the ebay thing it says it comes with mounting brackets, but im assuming that is different than these on your picture.
Noob question, Lithia? lol webside, member, or wha?

And thanks! ordered stainless steel bolts! RePete07-08-2011, 10:44 AMI ordered this exact fog set, it does not come with the mounting brackets - not sure what they mean by that. Here's Lithia's OEM site, they're a sponsor here. LithiaToyotaParts.com (http://www.lithiatoyotaparts.com) wrench07-14-2011, 09:17 AMI can vouch for what RePete says about the wiring, it is absolute garbage. I have had to redo the connections when I first installed, and I had to re-insulate the bulb connectors because it shorted against the housing and blew my fuse. Also, the weather pack on the supplied harness connectors is useless so I got rid of those as well. To be honest, I would bite the bullet and get the OEM ones. I know it's a bigger hit, but you will win out over the long term in reliability. mosdef07-26-2011, 06:51 PMhas anyone installed these on a pre-wired deuce? i just got these lights and im prewired, but the connections look very different. i think im going to have to run the supplied harness and wires. RePete07-26-2011, 08:51 PMThe connectors are actually the same ones on an Echo. mosdef07-27-2011, 01:42 AMhmm. i think im gonna splice them into the foglight wire connections. what sucks about this is that the switch and the relay do not match the oem connections.
