View Full Version : For Sale: '88 MR2 SC T-Top (Parts or Project)

killermonkeys02-28-2011, 11:13 AMGuys,

It's been a long, long time... (since when IMOC was a mailing list and there was an active MR2SC list) but the time has come to get rid of the baby.

First of all, this car is in fairly good condition given the age, storage conditions (outside), and irregular use, but it is NOT a "great car". It could be a perfect parts car, as it has nearly all the parts working, or a perfect project car.

History:
- My email doesn't stretch back to when I got this car but as I recall it was around 2002. Bought it when it had about 116k mi. The previous owner replaced the engine at 112k chassis mi with another 4agze from japan with approximately 62k engine mi. It now has 173931, so it is probably closing in on a new engine. But it is and has always been a SC.
- It has had 2 other owners, but 3 people (me, my dad, and my mom) have regularly driven the car.
- Has a HKS intake, aluminum crank pulley (a custom piece from MR2SC list, maybe the EL-P?), hi-flow cat, redneck boost gauge.
- Was junked, repaired, replated in 2004 and became a second car. Some ******* pulled out of a McDonalds and into my front end. As such it is OK but not great in the frontend bodywork.
- After about 2006 it became a first car and logged a lot of miles with my dad.
- After 2009 it traded hands again to my mom, also a first car but she doesn't drive much.

My mom has broken her shoulder very badly and can't really drive a stick any more so it's time for the car to leave the family. I love the car with all my heart, but I now live in the UK, and am nowhere near it, so it makes more sense for someone else who knows the car. As such, I am negotiable on the price, if someone has the cred.

I'm posting here in no small part because the last dude just giving/selling his nearly identical car (this is also Orange Pearl Mica). So if you are in the midwest/southeast, here's your chance.

ISSUES:
- Has a broken speedo cable and needle (as in "how fast was I going?"). To some extend this means the mileage is wrong (because the speedo cable spins).
- Has some nasty faded paint on the font boot lid. This is visible in pictures, but it might look like a reflection, it's not. Its crusty paint.
- T-top leaks in the normal place (your shoulder)
- Rot on the wheels
- Some wheel arch rust (though it seemed OK when I was there at Christmas)

Post to this thread if you're interested. First come, first served. I can do phone (as I know people are wont to do) but it's my UK number... else I am happy to call you.

PS: Attached photos are pretty dirty car... she can't really wash it. Also I think the photos are upright now. killermonkeys02-28-2011, 03:18 PMA much larger photo... bmole03-01-2011, 05:28 PMhey killer do you have an email address soldier14703-02-2011, 08:48 AMPm Sent. Respond ASAP. MacPepper03-04-2011, 03:02 PMIs this still available? Do you have any pics of the engine and trunk compartments, and interior? killermonkeys03-07-2011, 08:14 AMThanks for the interest, everyone. It's now been sold to a family friend in Lexington, who will be giving it some fresh paint, banging out some dents, and steaming the engine. It might even get garaging! He also has high hopes for the t-tops and the speedo... we all know how that goes. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
