View Full Version : Very specific question about an alarm install...

supraguy@aol02-23-2011, 07:51 PMHey guys-
I got a very basic alarm system today, and I have all connections completed, except for one: There is an output from my alarm to turn on the dome light for when you disarm the alarm. It's a negative output, and I'm just wondering if:
A.- anyone has installed an alarm into their MR2 that had this connection, and
B.- What wire did you use, and where is it located?

I connected the (-) door trigger to the door pin, and it won't also work
for the domelight as a turn-on point.

Thanks for your input, guys. arber021402-23-2011, 08:18 PMHey guys-

You only need to ground it anywhere in order for it to work, or to disarm. The dome light has power when turned on, so you are just sending electricity the wrong way. It works same principal as the e brake light. When you pull the handle all you are doing is grounding the light ( closing the circuit ) therefore the light turns on. supraguy@aol02-23-2011, 08:49 PMWell, I see what you're saying, and I think part of my confusion was that I didn't realize I need to use a seperate relay for the domelight, according to the manual. it's a 500ma (-) trigger, and so I guess I need to use it for a negative relay setup. arber021402-24-2011, 02:37 PMHook it up to the e brake switch, it will be easier. supraguy@aol02-25-2011, 05:44 PMWhy would I want to connect to the ebrake switch?
How will that light my interior when I disarm the alarm? arber021402-27-2011, 01:44 PMWhy would I want to connect to the ebrake switch?

I dont know.
I am just saying so that you get the idea of how it works. muffinman02-27-2011, 02:08 PMI didn't use the dome light feature cause the dome light these cars is so damn weak anyway. It most likely needs a seperate relay just like everything else. :( supraguy@aol02-27-2011, 09:37 PMTrue, i was planning on installing a relay for the dome light deal, just didnt know what wire to use.
