View Full Version : 1988 white hardtop all stock SHARP

Jayzer01-08-2011, 06:55 PMhere's the ad I have up on Craigslist right now...

But for you fellow MR2 owners, price is very negotiable :D

1988 Toyota MR2 3500 obo (http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/2150793182.html)

I bought this car in August as a project car. Total investment so far approaching $7000. Asking half obo

Reason for selling: It was stolen over New Years. The cops recovered it but it now has a stripped stereo and center console. I need a bigger car anyway so it's time to let this guy go.

I have taken the car in to Michael's Toyota in Bellevue for a mechanical inspection and they state that the car is mechanically sound.

1988 Toyota MR2
Hardop, non aerated, manual locks and windows, cruise control
VIN: JT2AW15C4J0136217
White/black
Manual transmission
163,XXX miles on odometer, less than 100,000 on engine
over $5000 of repairs, upgrades and maintenance in the last 6 months

About a Mark I MR2:
Mid engine car (poor man's lotus elisse)
Rear wheel drive... I drove from St. Louis to Seattle through the big snow storm that hit Wyoming and Utah and I never slipped once on the ice or snow
McPherson struts... easily take any ramp at double suggested speed ( at your own risk, I am not condoning it wink wink )
4-AGE engine goes 0-60 MPH in 8 seconds but still can pull as high as 40MPG, I average 30
10 gallon gas tank- $30 bucks can take you 300 miles or more
extremely roomy two door coupe
parts are plentiful and cheap to come by

good:
rare hardtop with manual doors and windows... no leaks, no malfunctions
clear title, very high CARFAX / AUTOTRADER score
straight body, never in an accident
no chassis rust deterioration
newer engine with under 100,000 miles
brand new 50,000 mile all purpose tires, less than 2,000 miles on em, /w warranty
new windshield /w warranty
custom wheels
replaced o2 sensor
new gaskets in entire exhaust system
new front hood release latch
new speedometer cable
new clutch master cylinder /w warranty
recently redone interior, super clean
custom stereo hookups for 4 3.5" speakers and sub
original spare tire and tool kit
original plastic 'TOYOTA' rear visor NIB
cruise control
everything with the car is intact except for what is mentioned below
current 2011 registration til august

bad:
stripped center console
all paperwork stolen out of car from break-in, work orders from last 6 months can be mailed to you upon request from original shops
scratched up front lip
minor dings on roof
minor spots of rust starting to show on exterior
beginning to sound like the flywheel should be replaced in the next 5k miles, clutch is a little stiff but typical for this age
air blows hot but not cold, still needs the freon to newfangled freon conversion done

The car is in extremely good condition for its age visually, mechanically, and electronically. It would make a good daily driver but an even better project. The only negative parts of this car are resulted from the break in, along with the few spots of surface rust that are inevitable on a 30 year old car and easily fixed.

I am looking to sell or trade. Asking $3500 obo cash
or trade for another car or truck, HTPC and gaming computer components, home theatre electronics, musical instruments, and much more. The weirder the better!
