View Full Version : undertray + Border front bumper

Madlife12-30-2010, 06:40 AMMy mr2 does not have the front under body tray, and my fender liners are pretty chewed up. Is there any reason you can't you these with a border replica front? I realize it may take some fab work to get them fastened and such. Im just curious so I know before I buy one. Careful what you wish for Madlife.

Last year, me too wanted the fiberglass front.

Had it installed at great expence, and worried about it for 6 months before it cracked. Too much of a hassle to install and maintain.

I gave up the 'cool' look for OEM and couldn't be happier.

And it looks better, stronger and um... more 'adult' in my opinion.

Can I wish for my body to be as clean as yours :omg:

Actually my car came with a poly Border replica front on it. Its in decent shape and good fitment. I noticed the front of the car is a little floaty at highway speeds, and when i checked out the suspension and read on here, there is a front section of the under tray I am missing. So I would like to get one. I just want to make sure that its not there because it wont work with the border front. {which I doubt}

I have a post up here about my crappy fiberglass toms rear, and trust me, I know how much it sucks. . If my car had stock, toms poly, or border poly, front, I would leave it as is.. I like them all MSAGRO12-30-2010, 02:11 PMCan I wish for my body to be as clean as yours :omg:

Thats ironic because I have no issue with my Tom's rear bumper. (until someone hits me that is)

How is your Tom's rear crappy? I'm happy with mine:

I also remember that my inner fender liners were hacked up. Also my under tray was simply gone for the sake of the Tom's front bumper.
When I had OEM bumper put on, I also had these parts replaced.

Would putting weight in the frunk help the 'floaty' feeling?

Also post a pic of your 2. We here at mr2.com love dem purdy peekurz. kevinl12-30-2010, 02:21 PMmsagro your front was bomex not toms and how did it crack? MSAGRO12-30-2010, 02:44 PMmsagro your front was bomex not toms and how did it crack?

Your'e right. It was a Bomex. Had it for 6 months with only minimal scraping on the bottom, (it was 1-1/4 inches from the ground). I had to be careful everywhere I went.

I had to walk 3 blocks to my bank because all the nearby driveway ramps were over a 15 degree angle. What a hassle!

I finally cracked the front by leaving a local store. Good, not bad downward angle, but I did not judge a small culvert before the main road and dipped into it with a sickening crunch.

I hated the crack, so until I replaced it with OEM bumper, I did this.

Tacky to be sure with electrical tape, but much better than seeing the crack.
Your eyes were drawn to just the crack:

Ended up selling the cracked bumper on Craigslist for a couple of hundred bucks. Madlife12-30-2010, 03:11 PMper request

The pictures make the paint look better than it is. Its pretty dull and beat, but overall minimal rust. I should start a restoration thread just because the interior was a disaster, and its soo much better now.. Kinda minor compared to some restorations on here, but im proud of my self because it definitely isnt my specialty.

Back on topic... You can see where my rear bumper is cracked, and it was that way when I bought the car. I took it off and realized when i took if off that both sides of the bumper squeeze in, kinda like small glasses on your face. When I fixed the crack i did it from the inside mainly to support it, get it on, then make it pretty outside afterward... Well it cracked on re installation...

so.. i did it again, thicker, stronger and it went on good... after a week of driving it, I check it out and it cracked again. My concern is that the side want to be Inward soo much that there will always be a lot of stress on pulling them outwards to make it fit.. Also the fiberglass bumper is really flimsy compared to the skirts. I was looking at the Duraflex rear bumper that is a "Toms replica" and if they are as flexible as they claim, it should be better.

My border front actually fits surprisingly well compared to a lot of the replicas i have seen on here so Id like to keep it and not mess with it. I have enough other parts to work on for now..

Im not a very big fan of white, but it was a decent price and we don't have a lot of mr2 options in upstate NY... Plus this one is a southern car with minimal rust. Im debating to keep it white {maybe w/ a pearl}, go with a yellow {never had a yellow car}, or a sunset blue / something like the evo in the background.
