imweip05-08-2006, 02:12 PMHey all, Im new here, been reading around the forums for a few hours, and I like what I see, so I might as well introduce myself. I came over from the other board, looked around there for a while, and posted a few posts, but didn't seem to get much help. This board seems more performance and less "help me, smoke, blah blah blah" oriented, which I like. :)

I do not yet own an MR2, I currently own A 88 NA Supra, but hopefully within two weeks I'll be the proud owner of a Yellow 93 MR2 turbo with a list of some tasteful mods all done by the owner who is guy I know well who has been tuning cars for years, professionally, and privately. (He was one of the first guys to tune a civic, and I believe one of the first 5 civic's to break 9's, before civics turned into what we all know them as now.)

Here are some of the things I know he's done to the car: swapped in a JDM motor, custom made an IC, custom made an Exhaust, swapped out seats for celica seats, upgraded springs, urethane bushings, and I'm sure a bunch of other little things I can't remember now. The car is currently running around ~200hp to the wheels, but he has a different boost controller that lets it run around 230. He's going to install a t3 turbo on it, and tune the car, hopefully before I buy it, if I can scrape together the extra money to get the turbo.

Im here mainly to learn about MR2, get ideas for anything else I may want to do to it, and understand more about the handling since it's my first mid engine car. Some of the mods I'd like to do when I get the car and get money (in order of importance): Get drilled/slotted rotors, upgrade brake pads, get some tokico illumina's, and then maybe some 16 or 17 inch wheels.. although I kinda like the stock wheels, it makes the car more of a sleeper. The car looks completely stock except for the exhaust and the little boost gauge on the dash (the stock one broke, so he put a better one in there). I'll upload some pictures of the car when I finally purchase it. I've only driven it once, and I'm in love, I can't stop thinking about the thing... It's better than the supra in just about every way I can think. I look forward to learning as much as I can from you guys, and hopefully in the future being able to contribute something back. Mister2.205-08-2006, 02:21 PMHey there, great first post. Now we just need some pictures of this 93. :) I'm sure you will be more than happy (and like the rest of us, quite addicted) for a long time to come.

Which gen engine was swapped over and what are your goals as far as power goes? I'm not a turbo guy so somebody else may have some advice for you.

The drilled/slotted rotors are a fine idea just make sure they are cast that way and not post-drilled which can weaken them.

Welcome to the board, maybe you can tell us a little bit more about yourself and I hope to see you stick around. :) imweip05-08-2006, 02:35 PMHey there, great first post. Im not sure what Gen, i only really know 240's and supras, hence why i've been scouring the boards a lot the past few days. I never even thought about MR2's as an option for my car, for some reason I just thought they were slow or something I don't know. I always wanted a 240 (s14 body style), a supra, or a 300zx. I saw his car one day, and that was the first time I gave it serious consideration. Since I drove it, I've been reading as much as I can every night... I've learned a lot, but I have a lot farther to go. I'll ask him next time I speak with him what gen it is.

My goals for power (since It'll be a daily driver were really only about 200-250hp, which it had 200hp when I drove it, and It was almost perfect for my tastes. However I would love to have the ability to turn up my boost if I wanted to run faster for drag, or track racing. He thinks with the T3 turbo it'll easily make 300hp to the wheels, and possibly more his brother's 240sx which has a 2.4L compare to the 2.2L with the same turbo and injectors was tuned to 380hp to the wheels, so he thinks 330hp is within the realm of reason with that turbo. I just made it clear to him that I want the ability to turn it down, and possibly disable it with a valet mode, and he said it can be done.

The rotors I was looking at were Brembo's I found them in a few places for $300 for a set of 4. They should be cast that way, or does brembo drill theirs too?

Thanks for the welcome and compliment on the post, I find it's better to convey things with text when using clear consise language. Gallagher00505-08-2006, 02:47 PMwelcome to the board man, good luck on the purchase of that yellow 2 imweip05-08-2006, 02:52 PMwelcome to the board man, good luck on the purchase of that yellow 2

thanks! ween19105-08-2006, 03:27 PMWelcome to the board! Be sure to put up a decent amount of pics after you get the car. IMO yellow looks amazing on mr2s. Would you keep the body mostly stock for the sleeper affect or kit it? imweip05-08-2006, 03:40 PMWelcome to the board! Be sure to put up a decent amount of pics after you get the car. Are you kidding me right now? The MR2 is the sexiest car on the planet (aside from a Noble GTO *droooool*), dropped just slightly of course. I *MAY* put some aftermarket wheels on it, or the owner gave me the option of some 16" 240sx wheels, but I'll probably stick with the 15" just for the sleeper effect. I found that the more ricey a car is where I live, the more chance of the owner getting taken to jail for speeding... I got pulled in my isuzu truck going 85 in a 55 (I was young, stupid, and hauling *** to meet up with a girl), and got off with a warning from two undercover cops in unmarked durangos. However a Civic with a giant wing and a body kit will likely be hauled to the impound yard if they catch him going 10 over... they'll find a reason. :) I just saw some side view mirrors I kind of like, they are M3 style, and have the turn signals built in, I'm not sure of the quality though. I'll have to look into it. ween19105-08-2006, 03:56 PMOld, old GTOs are crazy nice, too bad I'm not a fan of the newer ones really. The performance seems alright, but I'm not diggin the exterior.

I don't believe I said that the MR2 isn't the most amazing/sexy car :) I love mine to death and can't wait for the new job and close to a 300% increase in pay. Then, I might be happy! imweip05-08-2006, 03:59 PMOld, old GTOs are crazy nice, too bad I'm not a fan of the newer ones really. The performance seems alright, but I'm not diggin the exterior.

I think we're thinking of different cars... Im talking about the Noble m12 GTO.... I dont think there is an old one of those. :)

http://wawawoum.images2.free.fr/images/uk/noble/2003_m12_gto-3r_3.jpg ween19105-08-2006, 04:03 PMHaha, yes, very different cars. I took the word "Noble" the wrong way. But, that car is SEXY! I had to minimize the window real fast or else I would of had to have left work early to clean my pants. imweip05-08-2006, 04:06 PMHaha, yes, very different cars. Heheh what's sexier about them, is you can get them with a 425 hp engine in it, true front and rear spoilers for REAL downforce, and the whole thing feels like a normal production car, but drives like a race car. ween19105-08-2006, 04:21 PMLet me guess, it also has a farily large price tag attached to it? I don't read up on exotics too often, mainly because it just makes me depressed, so where are these made? imweip05-08-2006, 04:34 PMLet me guess, it also has a farily large price tag attached to it? i know someone who bought a 4 year old one for $25k (it only has the 325hp engine though... ONLY:lol: ), so not terribly pricey, but up there. New I think they cost around $80k fully assembled. It's a kit car from south africa I believe, and assembled in England.
