View Full Version : Front and Rear Center "Toyota" logo Keep It or Remove It?

mr2_dude11-06-2010, 06:34 PMmy car is in the process of paint job and I dont know if leave the front "toyota" logo and the rear center "toyota" logo or eliminated them. If I eliminated them I will only leave the word "toyota" (on the left rear side) and the "turbo" emblem

*Or maybe replace the front "toyota" logo for the Midship Runabout Eagle emblem and KEEP or REMOVE the Rear Center "toyota" Logo

and to have I mental vision image of the car how it look, the exterior of the car has 17" wheels Staggered, Sport Suspension, 94 Taillight, 1 piece front solid moulding and all the moulding will be painted as the same color of the car that is a 1991 RED kevinl11-06-2010, 07:20 PMi'm thinking about taking off my toyota emblems and eventually getting a cf trunk and aftermarket 94+ lights without the mr2 in the middle of the centerpanel. so basically no identifying emblems on my car

personally i like the "mystery" that comes with no emblems but that's up to you. it's personal preference so you gotta decide for yourself white_mr211-06-2010, 07:41 PMI only have a TRD emblem on my car and it is funny to watch people walk around it 2 or 3 times before they ask. mr311-06-2010, 09:12 PMPaint the front emblem black and remove TOYOTA off the back. Oteck11-06-2010, 09:13 PMmmm thinking of de-bagging my car too cept with a V6 and vvti on the trunk Bmer8911-07-2010, 01:45 AMDebadge ftw, I took all mine off. People seem a lot more interested when they can't figure out what it is lol. Doing it while you're getting ready for paint is perfect too, because you'll have little holes to fill in. RePete11-07-2010, 10:55 AMI think debadging is great for speed bikes but on cars it looks like it's unfinished, it also screams "I've been painted."

On the other hand, I'm not a fan of words on cars too much other than technical specs like engine size/description, etc.. I also think the Toyota symbol is one of the better ones out there, it's elegant and simple. If anything, I would keep both front & rear symbols but pull the printed TOYOTA emblem and keep the turbo emblem. MSAGRO11-07-2010, 03:43 PMNah debadge the car. Adds an air of mystery to it.

LOL RePete, ya nut!

Without the badges,I've had 3 people that thought my 2 was a Ferrari, and one idiot thought it was a Fiero.

It's fun driving a car that just a few people can identify. RePete11-07-2010, 05:22 PM:lol:

Yeah, I have to agree with you. Confused faces are always funny when you drive your deuce up to some person who has no clue, and when they can't find the badge they start taking stupid guesses. MSAGRO11-07-2010, 05:41 PMYeah.

The only writing I have on my deuce is a tiny label that says "Viper", my alarm system warning sticker.

Had 2 people say "What year Viper is that?"

Such fun. mr2_dude11-07-2010, 07:08 PMNah debadge the car. Adds an air of mystery to it.

nice pic! mr2_dude11-07-2010, 07:16 PMI definitely keeping the printed "MR2" (Dark Gray) on the center piece, I also thinking keeping the TOYOTA Emblem front and Rear and removing the side printed TOYOTA and Turbo like RePete says that look nice too, but I have to says that I like how the 2 look with out the front emblem but in the rear I dont know because I see that theres something is missing

or maybe paint the TOYOTA emblem as the same color of the car tksmr211-07-2010, 09:14 PMTake off the ones that leave holes behind them. I believe the back one leaves holes. Get the holes filled in and just use Toyota emblems that stick on, problem solved. Then you can just take them off when you decide to make a change.

And, who cars if it screams paint job whenever the paint job is a good one.

I personally only have the rear grey MR2 emblem b/t my 94 tails. That and my floormats, and window etchings are pretty much the only TOYOTA that is on my car since have a GEN3 motor. SDub2011-08-2010, 12:41 AMI've been debating doing this. Definitely going to debadge. muffinman11-08-2010, 09:40 AMLOL RePete, ya nut!

The first 3 should be punched in the face and the last one needs to be kicked in the balls.

It's been a while msagro. :D ;) Heytheremr211-08-2010, 10:55 AMI dunno meng....I'm proud of my Toyota. All i did was replace the front emblem for the spyder emblem, and left the rear one. I'm waiting to be able to splurge on a 94+ trunk lid so it'll just say GT or GT-S instead of Turbo, although the latter seems to be slightly more difficult to obtain. RePete11-08-2010, 03:15 PMAnother possibility other than body coloured paint on the emblems is you can order one of those gun-metal looking Toyota emblems, I think they came on the Mark IV Supra. mr2_dude11-18-2010, 08:39 PMTake off the ones that leave holes behind them. gonna take your advice to fill the hole and the decide if to leave it with out the emblem if I dont like it I will stick it with 3M double face tape prophet51311-18-2010, 11:41 PMI already had my car painted and I want the badges off kinda.

I'm stuck in the middle. ShackC11-25-2010, 02:20 AMI doing something different, i like the emblems my self, but for my 91 rear, im planning on buying the rear mesh cover for the 94, cut the 91 center panel and fit in the 94 black euros, i know youck . yeah what ever. prophet51312-09-2010, 10:30 AMIs there any chance Maaco would do like a de-badging thing? MSAGRO12-09-2010, 12:46 PMIs there any chance Maaco would do like a de-badging thing?

The only thing close to that what Maaco does is do is the specialized European mono-look that matches the emblems to the exact match of the new paint.

There is no extra charge for this feature.

They just spray right over them. ShackC12-21-2010, 12:55 AMDe-badging is simple to do the only hard and expensive part is fresh paint. There are multiple ways of doing it for different materials. Ill use fiberglass sheet and kitty hair for the front bumper. as for the rear since its metal ill weld it shut grind it as smooth and shallow as possible then a few light coats of bondo gel, i dont like the hard bondo it usually starts cracking over time unless you get the perfect mixture down and dont use tons of the stuff. beachbum12-31-2010, 11:04 AMAnother possibility other than body coloured paint on the emblems is you can order one of those gun-metal looking Toyota emblems, I think they came on the Mark IV Supra.

Yes those came on the mkIV supras I have a couple I've taken off of them.

Please don't paint them body color. I hate that, to me it looks as if who was painting the car was lazy and didn't remove them to paint the car. I'll I say debadge anyways. I think it gives the car a very clean look. beachbum12-31-2010, 11:13 AMIs there any chance Maaco would do like a de-badging thing?

Maaco is a no go anyways their paint jobs are crap. Why do you think they are so cheap? Cause they don't take the time to make sure quality is number one. All they care about is quanity just as long as they can get people in the doors for cheap. So they can fill their wallet. ShackC01-01-2011, 02:26 PMAgreed. kevinl01-02-2011, 11:35 AMMaaco is a no go anyways their paint jobs are crap. Why do you think they are so cheap? false. they're so cheap because they do only what you pay for, their cheaper options they wont prep the car. each maaco is different some do amazing work others do complete shit. imo if you want your car to be a different color go to maaco but if you want a good paint job go somewhere else MANDALAY01-02-2011, 02:02 PMI didnt know what to do when i resprayed my car.
At the time i only had the grey anniversary rear toyota symble , there was no front one so it would look weird. However after putting the silver ones front and back on i found out the JDM supra had a grey front to match :(
Also to match the thin black side moulding i got a flat black TOYOTA badge, but didnt put it on and also didnt put the MR2 badge on the centre panel b/w the lights.

Conclusion all i have is front and rear toyota symbles in silver, cleaner look and no holes to fill. dblosmith01-05-2011, 07:54 PMDefinitely keep them. skyteck01-30-2011, 04:51 PMhahah take all of them off its hilarious being stopped by the cops and having them say " very nice and fast......(looks into the registration and then says).. MR2" lmao trust me it happen to me already.... dagg9202-15-2011, 08:50 PMi took mine off too. now theres a faded toyota emblem built in. lol necolorado03-02-2011, 10:48 AMremove... when painting it's the only time you can get rid of the holes. I took off my 91 spoiler before painting so that if I choose a different one I can, or If i want the 91 back I can always redrill, same thing with the emblems. But i like the look without emblems, maybe 1 toyota badge in back center or just mr2 eagle would be cool too. Why tell people you have a turbo when you can show them? same with the v6, why badge it, kills the suprise. necolorado03-02-2011, 10:51 AMoh and maaco isn't bad if you only let them spray the car, if you sand, prep, mask and clean for them it can turn out pretty good, especially with a nice post buffing, but then you are practically doing everything ;) r3d.mr205-06-2011, 02:57 PMi think its a good idea to debadge. if you live in ghetto areas, whereas i do, i highly recommend debadging (trust me, there are very ghetto n poor people or who are jux plain bored on a weekend nite that would snap it off cuz it makes them cool) i have the rear toyota but missing my front >_ nocashrider05-06-2011, 06:15 PMI like the way it looks debadged Arsenal05-07-2011, 04:19 PMWhich emblems will leave holes? The rear emblem and the part which says Toyota, or just the emblem. Front? nocashrider05-08-2011, 12:59 AMthe front and the rear toyota emblem if i remember right GatorNutz05-10-2011, 10:00 AMMy car is painted and being put back together and i totally debadged it, but i'm gonna put the Midship Factory Japan emblems on my car. You can get them from DB8 on this forum. He is a stand up guy in Hong Kong and can get all the cool parts that can't be purchased here. I also finally found and bought an original Tom's scoop from him as well as the badges and i must say the Tom's scoop's haven't been made in a while and it looks brand new, like it has never been installed before..besides having the mount holes already drilled.. Thumbs up to Chris aka DB8, he has tons of JDM parts and TRD parts that are getting very hard to find..
-Scott jthorntonwillis05-18-2011, 11:11 AMVERY NICE ||||||||||05-22-2011, 11:26 AMI know my opinion thoug some might not agree with it....shave everything. I like the clean shaved look. Im gonna shave off the front and rear emblems (toyota and turbo are already gone) i dony want any identifying marks on my car. Im not gonna stop there either. 94+ tails with the mr2 shaved, as well as the key hole are going on, and the antenna is getting.shaved too.

As far as the whole "it will scream paintjob" excuse, thats the most asinine thing ive ever heard. Who cares? Unless youre sticking with a stock body, and a stock color, anyone that knows these cars well enoigh to appreciate or even care what it looks like is gonna know its painted so....logic?? Not to metion you say it like its beneath you to repaint a car. Since when was an aftermarket paintjob a bad.thing? Namerif05-22-2011, 07:07 PMI fully agree with the above post amen brother. goopi09-23-2011, 02:21 AMI am planning on putting the midship runabout badges on the front and perhaps the rear as well, not sure between black or red. V6 badge (hint hint) ontop/below 98 spec clear side marker, IMO that would look awesome! RePete09-23-2011, 10:30 AM...Since when was an aftermarket paintjob a bad.thing?Since always. I've been to hundreds of MR2 meets and I've only seen two aftermarket paint jobs that look as good as factory. And that's only because the owners had access to a paint shop & contributed to a meticulous job.

I still say keep the front & rear badge but ditch all lettering. canadam09-23-2011, 11:26 AMI think debadging is great for speed bikes but on cars it looks like it's unfinished, it also screams "I've been painted."

Agreed. Everyone on the Toyota Tundra forum I cruise once in a while is all for debadging because they call it "clean" looking. I think it looks like the truck has been resprayed. TomsMR209-23-2011, 05:01 PMAgreed, looks like someone forgot to finish the job. Keep the badges. cinderfella10-07-2011, 07:13 PMremove it!!!!! every mr2 ive owned and had to paint i always remove the emblems and fill them AURMEND12-10-2011, 11:37 PMIm gonna remove mine when I paint it
Edit: wtf I thought some1 posted a replay. And showed on my latest topics and I just brang this thread up..

Sent from my DROID3 Benckj04-30-2012, 05:51 PMI did something a little different (as I do). Removed the Toyota symbol from front and replaced with one that came on my Hilux bull bar. Looks the part but still is a bit mysterious. JDM versions don't have the Toyota name on rear so eliminating doesn't look out of place IMO.

jimb 780GTS04-30-2012, 09:00 PMI'm painting mine... however it's not a splash & dash it's an entire paint job everythings been removed, I can't decide to keep this shit or not either... I'm thinkin I'll keep the T on the front but ditch the rest, since my tail lights say MR2 in the middle anyways it should be all good and not look "unfinished" AURMEND04-30-2012, 09:20 PMi see you decided to keep the licence plate on your car.

your emblem looks nice. kinda matches your licence plate. (black and white)
What about the rear goopi04-30-2012, 10:30 PMi see you decided to keep the licence plate on your car.

Lol, I remember reading over that debate as well.

Good choice Jimb.:p Smurfcrusher06-03-2012, 09:40 PMhave Mid Ship Runabout in the front, screaming chicken in the back. patchmasterdoom08-12-2012, 10:35 PMLmao! I had a '93 Acura integra back in the day. I debadged it and replaced the A with H. I got pulled over in Jackson, Ms. The cop didn't bother to look at my registration and put "Honda (insert squiggle that somehow could have read civic or accord)" on the ticket. I wish I'd taken a picture of the ticket, lol.

Debadge all the way! MidnightViaMR204-01-2013, 06:55 PMWay late to the party with this judging by the dates on all the previous posts, but I'll chime in anyhow since I need to pop my cherry on these forums.
Call me a purist, either with deference or with disdain it doesn't either way. I purchased an MR2 because I love the manufacturer and because I love the car in particular - and I'm sure that nearly all of you at least partly share some of that reasoning, else you'd have gone a different route.

That being said (and all arguments for overt individuality aside for now), I can see no reason to debadge.
It's an MR2. It's a gorgeous car, I love it for what it is and when someone sees it hardparked and looking sexy I want them to recognize it as such and think "Oh wow, that's a well-kept and clean-looking MR2" rather than scratch their head and spend five minutes wondering what they're looking at. Who needs an air of mystery when you're behind the wheel of perfection? Show it off, not shave it.

Im new to the forum.

Got a big question to ask

Im looking at debadging my MR2

As far as I am aware, the Toyota sign and the 2.0GTI-16 colour coded badges on the rear hood, they are stuck only with adhesive, so no holes. - Can anyone confirm that

As 2nd, im looking at replacing the toyota symbol front and back.

I really want a screaming chicken for the front and a Midship runabout for the back

The question is, Ive seen a screaming chicken for sale, but has 3 pins at the back, and I believe I only get 2 holes for the front

The second is for the mid ship for the rear, does this badge have pins, and will it fit the rear and flush with the curvature of the boot lid?

If anyone from experience, knows the answer, that would be so helpful, and if you know where i can buy them too.

Im in the UK, and we aint got natta here................ moushque08-03-2013, 08:34 AMHi

I have a couple of questions

The toyota and 2.0GTI-16 badges - do they have any holes behind them?

And the screaming chicken badge, the one ive seen for sale has 3 pins, yet if i am not mistaken, after removing the front emblem there are only 2 holes?!

Is there another screaming badge out there, or should i just remove one of the pins.

Cheers moushque08-03-2013, 08:46 AMCan Someone also tell me

How far apart are the 2 holes when taking the front emblem off

A fellow MR2 owner said just to remove the pins and glue on. But i need to make sure I can cover the holes

thankyou TomsMR208-09-2013, 08:13 PMThey're about 3/4th inch apart or so... about 6mm holes (boom, mixed units!).

If you remove it, ill buy your emblem. Its weird looking without it. AntonL01-29-2014, 01:31 PMYou guys who have the PUR Front, What are you filling the holes with when you smooth them out?

i removed rear emblems/stickers etc from all of my mr2s (all mk1) & used the yamaha logo since that's who makes their engines

also use one on the engine oil fill cap :)

however, have aquired another 'rising phoenix' badge from the frunk to replace the rear yamaha logo. will remove tabs from back of metal badge & epoxy it to my trunk. i think it looks more factory than anything else & continues the mystery of 'what kind of car is that' questions; i get, too many times to mention.

& it's got the 'TOYOTA' clear windscreen over the rear window.......... :wtf:

most people think it's a porsche (have no idea why) & newer than 2000+
which speaks volumes regarding design standing the test of time

the reality it continues to outperform newly released modern direct injection/vvvt/efi sports kit; quite loudly inidicates the runabout should be re-released Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
