View Full Version : Ya slap a turbo on it.

Gocasen04-23-2006, 04:03 PMI was thinking of twin turboing the v6 and everyday i come up with a new way ;) Its exciting. My frist idea is to slap my buddy's stock wrx turbo onto on bank of the headers. That should spool fast then i wanna slap a GT30R onto the Y pipe. It would work similar to an RX7 but i am not sure how exactly i will manage it.

Anyone think of this idea? Oteck04-23-2006, 04:31 PMlol your realy jumping it, do you know how much room you got back there? on the 5vz that setup is easy, the exhaust merges ontop of the tranny. but your 3vz you just can't do that, the intake, fusebox, wiring, hoses sits there unless you want them to melt or use a 5vz intake Weasy2k04-23-2006, 08:44 PMwhat you mean by manage it?
A wastegate perhaps? Gocasen04-23-2006, 10:17 PMI know i will need a standalone not sure whcih i will choose. Cuase with 2 diffrent lags one boost will come from the wrx and the other will come from the GT30r. And i need to manage the fuel so theres diffrent fuel for each turbo. Weasy2k04-23-2006, 10:35 PMoh you talking a a seq twin turbo setup? Gocasen04-24-2006, 06:30 PMYes. Like the RX7 were first turbo spools then the second turbo comes in later. Toysrme04-24-2006, 07:30 PMJust blow the little turbo through the big one. It's more efficient that way, easier to pipe & you just need one intercooler (Or two. That'd be neat. Small DSM intercooler off the little turbo, or something.)

This is a '97 vq30de maxima. All stock.

This is a '97 vq30de maxima. All stock, plus a t3 63 / t04s 60-1 hybrid turbo.

3000rpm 90whp/160lb-ft VS 90whp/160lb-ft
3250rpm 108whp/165lb-ft VS 130whp/210lb-ft = 22whp/38lb-ft
3500rpm 115whp/175lb-ft VS 160whp/235lb-ft = 45whp/60lb-ft
3750rpm 120whp/167lb-ft VS 190whp/265lb-ft = 70whp/98lb-ft
4000rpm 125whp/165lb-ft VS 210whp/280lb-ft = 85whp/120lb-ft

I shall not continue.
I just don't see the big deal about normal twin turbos. Even a t3/t4 hybrid, t3/t04s 60-1 (The greatest t3/t4 hybrid of them all) is a total *** kicker at low rpm.

BTW, what I didn't tell you is that the N/A dyno is an M/T, and the turbo dyno is a stock A/T... Ya that's right. The turbo didn't just trounce it at 3250, it overcame a rough 10-15% penalty to match it at just 3000rpm LoL!

Anyways. Single turbo that's insanely responsive, yet still makes it's 400bhp @ 7psi. Priceless! (And you can buy .84 A/R t3 housings to replace the .63 ones with if you're wanting easier power at high, high rpms. Same can be said for 40mm Chinese wastegates!)

btw ^ that's my favorite 400-500bhp turbo. It's such a bruiser LoL! Weasy2k04-24-2006, 09:22 PM304 ITB 13:1 PHOENIX04-24-2006, 09:25 PMnice, i say go for it!

so im curious, RX-7s have twin turbo but they are inline? smaller turbo blows into the bigger turbo? Oteck04-24-2006, 09:40 PMi don't see the need for that though, there should be plenty of lowend even if you drop the cr. Weasy2k04-24-2006, 10:34 PMi don't see the need for that though, there should be plenty of lowend even if you drop the cr.
??? Toysrme04-24-2006, 11:25 PMWhat he means foo, is he don m1nd turbo lag b/c he's happy with the mad VZ low end yo.

Werd!

LoL! Weasy2k04-25-2006, 12:02 AMi suppose Gocasen04-25-2006, 12:33 AMI am looking into innovation. You all did the swap and did your own thing. I wanna do my own innovationing. lol Turboing is were me and jesus will make some headway. Toysrme04-25-2006, 01:47 AMM62 blower mounted runner/trd style, with a turbo blowing in it. Or multi-charged turbo's. Or both... That'd be some hellacious style points.
"Ya I got a mr2 with a 3vz-gztte".
Gotta have ported & polished heads to get in the G club tho. You'll like that club. Makes the owners of factory G engine's mad. Weasy2k04-25-2006, 01:22 PMhow about just a m90 :P

Project Banshee will be 5vz-fzte soon :) Gocasen04-27-2006, 01:05 AMI am htinking the rx7 turbo setup so i get the TT. And if i want even a more liniar power band maybe a SC. ;) My swap is going to be testing the limits of the S54 tranny and the 3vz fe. I plan to document everyhting. I put money on axles snapping a lot. Weasy2k04-27-2006, 11:37 AMheheh dont **** up shifting :) Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
