View Full Version : Quad headlight conversion

WrenchswingeR08-01-2010, 01:00 AMCheck out my new conversion..cost all of $85 (40 per set of lights x2 and 5 for epoxy)...Bright as hell and double-relayed so hi beams come on w/ lo's. Let me know what ya think. (and nevermind the paint/primer/body work, it's all part of the project lol) goopi08-01-2010, 02:06 AMCould you possibly post up more pictures of the conversion but from a lower angle? Thanks. mr2918008-01-2010, 03:43 AM+1^ WrenchswingeR08-01-2010, 02:13 PMhere's another one from more straight on. would have turned lights on to show brightness but my battery committed suicide

This is a sh!tty picture of the conversion- CJMR2T08-01-2010, 03:59 PMSorry, but its got to go. Not from an appearance aspect but from a safety aspect.

Its dangerous for you and more so others on the road to use driving and or fog lights as main beams. This should never be done solely from a safety aspect... If you want to endanger yourself, thats your business but thats no reason to endanger others on the road...

If you want low rise quad headlights, do it correctly with real DOT approved headlights.... WrenchswingeR08-02-2010, 12:02 AMSorry, but its got to go. Not from an appearance aspect but from a safety aspect.

Not sure how i'm endangering anyone, the beams are aimed well below any ones sideview or rearview mirrors, so glare is a non-issue. As for endangering myself that's simply not the case, with both hi and lo beams on and the fog lights i can see for miles. True i cant get the visibility of a traditional hi beam (distance/height-wise) but it's good enough for me. I drove my RX7 and Probe GT w/ similar headlight mods each for several years and never had a problem. mr.asian.m208-02-2010, 01:41 AMsorry...just not feeling it. WrenchswingeR08-02-2010, 11:43 PMthe 2nd picture does it no justice..it looks badass. Dont be sorry asian, i like the honest opinions WrenchswingeR10-24-2010, 12:48 AMreviving this thread w/ updated pics.. this setup looks really trick, works great and draws plenty of looks (not good from the cops) lol but when i get pulled over i tell them all sealed beams are DOT legal which they are and i never get harassed for them...let me know what u think TonyHuynhTwo11-19-2010, 11:53 AMreviving this thread w/ updated pics.. this setup looks really trick, works great and draws plenty of looks (not good from the cops) lol but when i get pulled over i tell them all sealed beams are DOT legal which they are and i never get harassed for them...let me know what u think

That's one very "ghetto" looking deuce. WrenchswingeR11-21-2010, 04:15 PMha u shoulda seen the car when i bought it. just cause its naked doesn't mean its ghetto  aler_ka12-12-2010, 06:24 AMtoo low for my taste !! but good work pure sex12-23-2010, 10:32 PMI think they look a little odd because the angle of the headlamp cover is actually angled down instead of being level with the ground or slightly up. I may end of trying to do a conversion with these lamps. What method did you use to shorten the distance the headlamps pop up?

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x40/xmjsilverx/Car/DSC01247.jpg SW20MR212-23-2010, 10:52 PM^^looks good, i like these diy headlight conversions. Maybe later down the line i'll try something like this, instead of tossing 800 out the window on the rev6's Oteck12-24-2010, 01:30 PMintegra lights? Skittles12-24-2010, 02:41 PMThat looks clean, nice.

Now someone needs to make that with a flush housing for the MKI. =D marazaii12-24-2010, 05:11 PMI always wanted to do my own conversion with some random projector fog lights but im affraind on the outcome, nice work though! pure sex12-25-2010, 08:48 AMThey are the the projectors out of a lexus ES300. I worked in the same building as a body shop and collected tons of these but I think I got rid of most of them when I moved. If you know anyone at a bodyshop just ask them to save you a set of projector lights. They will come across plenty of damaged ones but the projectors are always fine.

The projectors out of a Z4 would be nice, they are a little smaller.

If you just change the link arm length, the system will bind when it closes.

Without taking a ton of measurments and doing a bunch of Trig calculation, its really just a matter of trial and error. However, a small change in both parts gives a big change in actual opening. to give you an example, it was something like 1/2" change in each item equated to almost have the opening height of the lid.

I had it calulated out in 1/8" increments (rod and arm changes) vs. opening height but I cant find the sheet anywhere (probably going to have to redo it again). SW20MR212-25-2010, 03:22 PMIm no expert on these things, but wouldnt it be possible to use a pivot controller:confused: I heard the term used before and i think its a controller that allows you to chose the exact hieght for your headlights. Please correct me if im wrong, because i've always wondered how they worked. mr312-25-2010, 09:46 PMThey could and probably are just in a fixed position and do not pivot. 328FTW12-26-2010, 07:05 AMintegra lights?

Tried them before my es300 ones and they were crap and wouldn't work as well imo. Looked at hyundai lights and all sorts then I spotted the es300 and suddenly DUH, I even own one and didn't click.

I just spent and hour going back and forth tack welding till I got it right:lol: WrenchswingeR12-27-2010, 12:50 AMthread jack in progress... sex- not sure why the headlamp lid being slightly lower than the angle of the road makes any difference. I wanted the lowest slung covers w/ low profile lights. Your conversion looks odd cause the projectors are way too far apart, there is no bezel to finish frame work and you have towels shoved in above and below the lights! Mine are mounted and functional pure sex12-27-2010, 11:27 PMHaha, wow you took that way out of context. I said that yours look odd because they are angled so low. That is just my opinion. The picture of mine was just a set of projectors shoved in there to see if I liked the look. I have not done the conversion hence why I said I may do a conversion with these lamps. I think you did a good job with the conversion, I just think they look too low in my opinion. Didn't you say in the first post, "let me know what you think"? SW20MR201-09-2011, 04:46 PMAny Updates??? I'm staying tuned nakeddotz01-09-2011, 05:27 PMI got those put in last year.
I made the angel eyes myself in it.

I've seen a few pics of similar modded headlights and they look good from head on but side angle looks awkward..like muppet eyelids or something  nakeddotz01-11-2011, 02:50 PM:lol::lol: your right.
They called also frog eyes.

http://i53.tinypic.com/2aguc07.jpg traintech8601-11-2011, 05:02 PMSome of these quad setups look nice, but i am a sucker for flippy headlights dgh938peg01-11-2011, 05:58 PMNot keen on the frog eyes. mk2's have pop ups and IMO should stay that way. I have been working on a set of quad projector pop ups using Ford Puma (UK Car) lamps. Millentubby has already done this on his mk1 and can open slightly lower than rev6.

Yeehaw! Just MOT'd the mk1!

I haven't sorted the rotor arm and pushrod so that it retracts yet, but it's a step in the right direction!

Patched up the holes in the side oh the units to prevent water and dirt getting in.

I'm in the works w/ trimming the front bumper slightly to get the lamps to close flush when not in use, then open to desired lower height when lights are turned on. oo oo 91redna01-12-2011, 12:34 PMwrenchswinger can you post a upclose of you lights and a view of the mechanism possibly i love the look you have and am in the process of doing a similar setup with sealed beam lights from a mid 90's olds cutlass they are about 2inx3in so i will put my highbeams in the flip up and the lowbeams in the foglight area [since i dont have fogs] so my lights will only flip up when highbeams are selected marazaii01-13-2011, 08:48 PMnice.
