gsus04-18-2006, 12:49 AMHey guys, I might be picking up my donor car on Saturday but I’m looking for a bit of advice on what I should keep from the car before I start selling bits and pieces. The car is a 93 Camry XLE V6. The motor has 150k on it, but its local and I think it will save me the headache of having to find any missing sensors, plugs, harness or whatever for the engine.

So right off the bat…

Engine (duh)
Engine wiring harness
ECM
Gauge Cluster (or just the tach)
Mounts?

Anything else that I should take off that might be necessary for the swap later? Also is there anything I should look for on the engine that could be bad or good? I saw the car on Sunday, but we were not able to start it cuz the battery was dead since the car has not been run in a few months (about 3-4 months). Also, I was told the tranny (auto) is bad, but I’m not quite sure how bad yet… think this will be an issue?

Any input would be great before Saturday! Thanks in advance. Weasy2k04-18-2006, 01:05 AMTRANNY! :)
take whatever you can from the engine bay that has to do with the engine...heck keep the axles too Oteck04-18-2006, 07:17 AMtake any thing that plugs to the ecu and cut some 1ft just to make sure gsus04-19-2006, 12:04 AMawesome so you guys dont think i need anything else? i'll keep the car in tact for a couple of weeks to sort of observe how it sits & how it works. beside i want to hear it purr a few times before i tear out its beastly (well beastly to me) powerplant. Weasy2k04-19-2006, 01:05 AMyea keep that car as long as you can... Gocasen04-20-2006, 01:28 PMWeasly this is jesus. Us IL guys may have a set of cams for you earlier than before. gsus04-21-2006, 12:24 AMhaha, Yes i'm Jesus!!!! hehe. It might be a while, but I think I will be definately interested in purchasing some cams later on down the road. gsus04-23-2006, 11:15 PMWell I picked up the car saturday evening. the tranny seemed fine at first, then again i wasn't flooring cuz i thought i might have issues. anyhow, halfway home the tranny overheats i guess & the rpms rise but no go in any gear. the car moves again once everything cools down. as for the engine, the oil looks good and the engine sounds nice in the upper rpm's. the car seems to shake a bit when the car is in gear and very slightly when giving it gas, my guess is that the motor mounts are shot. although, i will be performing a tune up while the engine is still in the car to see how it helps.

here's a quick crappy video (http://carpron.com/multisite/v/Upload/New-MK__-MR2-Shell/album303/camry_donor_car/Movie.wmv.html) of the engine being revved, doesnt sound as nice in the video as it does in person. Right now i have 5vz and 1mz profiles...i need a valve spring from the 3vz too so i can get them analyzed and remade...(if need be)

Should have all that soon Gocasen04-24-2006, 06:32 PMI keep buging jesus to rip it out with me and put it on the engine stand. But no he wants to leave it in the car. Weasy2k04-24-2006, 09:20 PMbvetter listent o jesus...he a smart man...he can make you into a toad if he wanted....

the power PHOENIX04-24-2006, 09:30 PMI keep buging jesus to rip it out with me and put it on the engine stand. But no he wants to leave it in the car.

i would do the same and even buy a gasket kit to do a cleaning/new gasket rebuild just to make sure everything is good. And its a great way to see if there are any problems with the engine. Oteck04-24-2006, 09:43 PMdo what i did, tear it down and paint it ;) i got some of you drooling over it already lol Weasy2k04-24-2006, 10:33 PMi hope that paint looks good after the engine runs...
get me those cams damnit! gsus04-25-2006, 12:29 AMi'm thinking of taking her down in a couple of weeks. there are 2 reasons for me waiting to drop the motor. first being lack of free time due to 2 jobs. second being that i want to sort of see how the engine sits in stock form so that i dont have to come on here or got to a manual every to second to see where things are at or how they work. i will be tearing down the engine once its out of the car, but there is really no rush. the engine only puts me about a third of the way to the final product. i still need lots & lots of parts, i dont expect to have the engine in til fall. Gocasen04-25-2006, 12:35 AMYou mean tommorrow right. :D i already put it in the mr2 while you were sleeping. gsus04-25-2006, 12:40 AMsweet, after you're all done, i'll hack it out of your deuce and install it in mine. just make sure you do a clean job :) Toysrme04-25-2006, 02:14 AMFlush the fluid out & tighten the kick-down cable all the way.
Use it as a DD until it's swap time. Weasy2k04-26-2006, 12:55 AMsweet, after you're all done, i'll hack it out of your deuce and install it in mine. just make sure you do a clean job :)

he means yours :P gsus04-26-2006, 12:57 AMheck yeah! he'll save me the trouble :D gsus04-26-2006, 12:58 AMFlush the fluid out & tighten the kick-down cable all the way.
Use it as a DD until it's swap time.

lol.. the car itself is in rough shape... and the tranny is pretty bad. i wish i could drive it around to get a feel for the engine though. Toysrme04-26-2006, 10:39 AMIt's a fairly strong transmission. Especially for it's time. Trust me, go to wallmart @ buy $10 worth of fluid & flush it out.
If nothing else, you can get it workable & ebay it for $350-450. Weasy2k04-26-2006, 02:49 PMthe tranny will giver for as long as thiers fluid...you may think its bad...but it will keep going.... erioshi05-11-2006, 09:01 PMBe sure to grab the fuel pump - at least if you're just looking for a mild N/A build. gsus05-16-2006, 01:52 AMWell it's been a very fun & productive weekend not to mention exciting. I'll be picking up and engine stand tomorrow & hopefully ordering the gasket refresh kit from Toyota on Wednesday. removing the engine from this car was actually quite easy... I'm even willing to say, it was easier than dropping the 5s from my mr2. I had 2 problems that caused me to take up 2 days to drop the engine (Saturday & Sunday). First, the exhaust bolts were rusted on & the bolt heads rounded off. We just cut the bolts at the exhaust cat exhaust flange. I still have to figure out how to remove the Y-pipe from the exhaust manifolds. Second problem was the right axle had a rounded off axle bolt! Nothing the rotozip couldn't take care of though. Other than that the removal of the engine was pretty straight forward. Although I did most if not all the prep work to remove the Engine I had help from Bob (SOHCsubbie) & Adolfo (vegas69). Bob helped with the rotozipping action & some other odds and ends. Adoflo showed up just as we were setting up the engine jack... so he helped man the engine jack. Much thanks goes to both of them!

buh-bye camry (http://carpron.com/multisite/d/75086-2/IM002973.JPG) Weasy2k05-16-2006, 02:01 AMyou got a wicked build team going there...good work! 3VZ-FE05-16-2006, 03:37 AM:thumbup: Some crazy kids. What a cool engine you got there :D gsus05-31-2006, 01:07 AMWell as of Monday afternoon I had the engine mounted on the engine stand. Had another few issues with the right axle preventing me from separating the trans from the engine. So we improvised and tore the already bad transmission apart. The differential looks cool though :). But I still have to remove the axle shaft from the block… Next step is to get the gasket kit, tear down the block, clean the engine, get the valve covers and manifold powder coated. It will be slow process, but there is no huge rush

Anyhow some pics of the engine on the stand:
